UK Game Charts: September 3-9

Zombie-killing Dead Rising snatches top-of-the-crop slot from gangster-killing Saints Row; three new entries debut in the top 10.

Unlike the shuffling zombies featured in the game itself, Dead Rising has raced up the UK game charts to take the top slot in its first week of release. The game knocks previous number one occupant Saints Row down to number two after only a week in pole position.

As retail tracking service Chart-Track reports, Dead Rising is Capcom's first UK all-formats number one in over five years. The fact that Saints Row sales slid 43 percent last week will be a sore blow to THQ, but Microsoft is faring well with three Xbox 360-exclusive titles near the top of the chart. With the arrival of Test Drive Unlimited at number four, the company only narrowly missed out an an Xbox 360-exclusive top three.

The game that did manage to break into the top three was Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, despite only being on sale since Monday. The game's release on multiple platforms helped it chart high, and it's last week's second-highest new entry.

All these new entries meant that every other game on the chart suffered a drop since last week. The Sims 2 is still proving a winner, though, with the game at number nine and the Glamour Life Stuff pack at number six. Though it narrowly missed out on the top 10, Sony's Gangs of London made an impressive jump from last week's number 23 to this week's 11.

This Friday sees the release of Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, and Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1. Check back next week to see if Dead Rising has the legs to make it a second week at the top of the UK game charts.

you need to see the full picture, they are high cause they havent been many releases in the UK for over a month there never is in august and september, the PS2 still outsells the 360 2 to 1 in the UK. im not saying they are bad games cause i have never played them, but all you people saying that the 360 is doing great and sony is going down really dont know what you are talking about, also the sims 2 is in there cause it was re- released as a budget game at the begining of august

So much for the lack of love the 360 has apparently been getting, grabbing top two positions

Robinvd, this is a multiformat chart. Lego Star Wars and Cars both have Xbox versions hence the Xbox has two titles in the top then.

Dead Rising was always going to be number one, but the fact that it is only on 360 speaks wonders as it is a multi platform chart.

We haven't all bought Cars you know! I personally am going nowhere near it, and the only game I own in that chart is Brain Age.

And people still keep saying the 360 is not doing great in Europe. The Top 10 chart speaks for itself.

even though it mentions a platform here the UK charts are based on combined sales. Cars is up there because it includes GC, XBOX, PS2, PC, DS, PSP and GBA versions of the game. it only needs to sell a few on each platform to make it into the charts.

believe me there has been no mad rush on Cars. it's just available on alot of platforms.
