House of the Dead: Overkill done for

Sega's zombie shooter for Wii goes gold; gamers finally able to "suffer like G did" February 10.

Sega's violent homage to terrible movies is ready to roll. Today the publisher announced that House of the Dead: Overkill has gone gold and will be ready to meet its February 10 North American release date.

Like Madworld and No More Heroes, Overkill falls into the steadily expanding group of ultraviolent M-rated games being made for the usually family-friendly Wii. As with previous House of the Dead games, Overkill is an on-rails light-gun-style shooter that challenges players to mow down hordes of zombies while avoiding innocent civilians with an ill-advised penchant for startling heavily armed secret agents.

Setting Overkill apart from previous entries in the series is its adoption of a B-movie aesthetic to form a "pulp funk horror" vibe clearly inspired by efforts such as Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's film Grindhouse (itself an homage to an entire genre of exploitive cinema of the 1970s). Whereas previous House of the Dead games echoed the dialog and delivery of such films, Overkill incorporates gratuitous swearing, go-go dancers, and visual effects to simulate battered and beat-up film prints.

Development on Overkill was handled by Headstrong Games, formerly known as Kuju London. Previous projects from Headstrong include Battalion Wars for the GameCube and Battalion Wars 2 for the Wii.

Already bought and paid for, on Feb 10th I just have to trade my nice little reserve slip in for this gem. While I really want Deadly Creatures too, it may have to wait till I cap some zombies in Bayou City. There will be much beer and corpse shooting on the night of Feb 10th, pretty excited.

Cool I'll have to pick this up for my Wii that I only play when I want to get a game of HOTD 2 & 3 on. Now sega how about bringing a copy of House of the Dead 4 on the Xbox 360?? We know you and microsoft are friends, err lovers I'm sure you can manage to get the right to make a wireless gun for the Xbox 360, if you cant do it I don't think anyone can..

I have to say that I'm really looking foward to this title. I love the whole grindhouse look of the game. The still pictures don't do this game justice, the videos give you a much better feel for the game. From what I've read the IR controls seem to be spot on. I'm hoping that they are an improvement on HOTD 2&3, not that their IR control was bad. There also seems to be whole lot more limb splattering in this game. If Sega can pull this game off they will seriously ahead of the game this year.

I wonder if it'll be as bad as the other House of the Dead games or if they've turned up the heat on this one, but since it's a Sega game I guess there's a good chance it might just blow chunks

I might buy it, I bought the last gun game for the Wii (Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles) and I enjoyed that one, but what I really want to see is a modern rendition of the Area 51 lightgun games (with the real life STAAR trooper actors and all), I wasted so many coins on that game back in the day. Or even better, let's see a new Virtua Cop game, my friend still has his Sega Saturn for the purpose of playing that game.lol
