E3 2008: Star Wars: The Clone Wars First Impressions

Nintendo offers a quick glimpse of its upcoming Star Wars game, due for release this holiday.

"Skywalker is the republic's only hope." Thus speaks a thoughtful Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the upcoming action game coming to the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo didn't show much gameplay in its lightning-quick preview, but what we saw whetted our appetites for some saber-swinging fun.

The most fascinating element of this brief glimpse was the visual style. Clone Wars features a stylized and exaggerated look with a bit of a blocky feel to its geometry. We didn't see much of the game in action, but one of the small glimpses seemed to feature Obi-Wan Kenobi locked in conflict with a battle droid. The video that Nintendo featured focused as much on the player experience as on gameplay proper. Players will swing their Wii Remotes as lightsabers (with bright, glowing smiles on their faces, of course!), and will be able to participate in head-to-head lightsaber duels.

Prepare your swinging wrist and queue up John Williams' soundtrack because Star Wars: The Clone Wars is due for release this holiday season. GameSpot will bring you more information as it develops.

well no sword fighting game can work on with the wii because if you fight with a sword and it gets blocked then your sword would stop but if your sword was controlled by a wii then your remote would not stop but your sword would this is a confusing thing

This better come bundled with that new "extra sensor nubbin" thing they've been promoting. That's the only way lightsaber duels are going to be satisfying.

Jimmy, you're wrong, because the movie comes out in August and the game won't be out until the Holiday. Game release will probably coincide with TV show premier.

I'm skeptical, it looks cool, but as Gamespot seems to have overlooked, it is a movie licensed game. And not movie licensed as in based on Episode 1, 2, and 3, licensed as in based on the upcoming CG star wars movie: the clone wars. Meaning it will probably be rushed so it can be released simultaneously with the new film, meaning it will probably feel buggy and incomplete.

I mean, they might do a good job with it, but considering the crappy track record the gaming industry has with movie games, I doubt it.

If they get 1:1 with Wii Motion Plus in this, I will grab this in a heartbeat.

Force Unleashed or this? i'm guessing most will go for the Force Unleashed because the Clone Wars era has been done to death by now!

Star wars games tend to lean towards the better side of licensed games, so i suspect that this'll probably be ok.
