E3 06: Resident Evil Wii-bound

Capcom's zombie-slaying series is in development for Nintendo's next console; controller's functions will be incorporated into game.

LOS ANGELES--Resident Evil 4, one of 2005's most acclaimed games and recipient of several Game of the Year awards, was first released on Nintendo's GameCube in January. The Cube seemed an odd choice of platform for the mature content in the game, but publisher Capcom released it as an exclusive for the system before finally porting it to the PlayStation 2 in October.

When Resident Evil 5 was announced in mid-2005, Capcom revealed that it was headed for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360--no Nintendo platform was in sight.

News out of Japan today sheds some light on the Nintendo snub, as Capcom announced that a Resident Evil game is currently in development for the Wii.

The title will be "a new game in the Resident Evil franchise" that combines the series' trademarks with "the revolutionary control system of the Wii." No further details about the game were announced.

The Wii game isn't necessarily Resident Evil 5. Given that Resident Evil is one of its biggest franchises, Capcom does have a penchant for reworking existing RE games and creating spin-offs.

Please, all that I ask is it doesn't have the same horribly broken controls that Red Steel has.

no, only the umbrella chronicles game will be released for the wii, and re5 for the ps 3 and x 360, since the fifth installment in the series will be pointing to a whole new and outstanding graphical detail. Since the wii can't keep up with the graphical potencial of the other two consoles, the revolutionary gameplay mode might save umbrela chronicles from a total-letdown emotion, since this game will provide the whole story of the 4 previous games and connect them to fit into a fantastic storyline.

Guys, don't worry. I have a prediction here on the idea that Capcom is doing everything EXCEPT snubbing Nintendo.
IGN was saying Resident Evil 5 is going to have internet features for the 360 and PS3. Since the Wii's internet feature isn't really up and running yet, I predict that Capcom will port RE5 over to Wii (the light side) once it is up, like when RE4 went over to the dark side (PS2). So, the Wii game will prolly have more features. Plus, it'll doubtlessly use the Umbrella Chronicles controller layout, which is supposed to be like RE4. Therefore, we'll get both games, while PS3 and 360 will only get one! Again, this is only a (realistic) prediction, but if it's true, CAPCOM, I LOVE YOU!

this is bullcrap! this is a total snub! like when final fantasy crystal chronicles showed up on nintendo. sure it was a great game but ppl wanted to play the actual game that made it famous. its like capcom is throwing us a bone to be nice. which is worse from them cuz they at one point obviously had faith in nintendo with resident evil 4. TOTAL crap.

It could be the greatest game in the Resident Evil Series, or it could be the worst.

I hope this is good. Resident evil 4 on ps2 was the best game i've played :]

I think they should make it like resi 4, but you walk with the nunchuk and hold z to go into the over the shoulder aim mode, aim with the wii remote, shoot with b, and you can hack them by holding c and hacking with the wii remote. Also, A is used for all the usual crap, like opening doors and picking stuff up.

    Agree?

This is gonna be amazing, and supposedly it's going to link where the first 4 games ended (not CV(x), i mean 0) and the new resi 4 side began. If this uses the Wii controller properly i think i'll be using the knife a bit more...yeah!! Right in the eye!!

On the speculation of "it probably wouldn't be very good on the Wii" -- i specifically remember all the spin-offs and other RE games for "other" systems not being "very good" -- albeit, RE:CV(X).

Why can't they just put RE 5 on Wii, maxequalsice? Because it probably wouldn't be very good on the Wii.

I think this won't be a spin-off... I have a strong feeling it may be a parallel story to RE5 to take full advantage of the Wii's controls... same characters (except the main character) and similar environments (maybe same ones, but different routes) might make both games work together a lot better than one might think.

It could turn into something REALLY good... but then again, it may just be Resident Evil: Outbreak 3.
