And ya if you can beat the old ones this will be a breeze, but if not it will probably be harder.

Amazing game! Not as hard as they say though, I got everything without ever getting a game over so... ya. but still a fantastic game.

The controls are not iffy. I dont know why they would say something like that. There is very little motion controls, which mainly is waggle for spin and movin a few platforms. this is a great game, that will be remembered for another 15 years before we see another 2-D mario.

A Mario side-scroller with iffy controls? That is contrary to every game that came before it. Pretty sad really. Why they insisted on forcing (or please, tell me I'm wrong, tell me you don't have to use them) motion controls on this game is beyond me.

The return of the Koopalings is much needed. I have missed them since Super Mario World. And it seems airships make a big return a-la SMB3.

The multiplayer aspect is a complete turn off for me though. If I wanted to deal with that stuff I'd play Mario Party or Smash Bros or something. Chaotic multiplayer is NOT why I play Mario games.

real shame about the iffy controls, maybe enough to put me of buying cuz mario games are all about the excelletn control and physics

I don't know why Gamespot is so harsh on Nintendo games, am I the only one that notes a certain sarcasm in the guy's voice when talking about how great this game is?... what's so bad on a real challenge with a Mario game since years???... the sometimes extreme dificulty of some games 10 or more years ago didn't make us stop playing videogames!!! I really love Mario going back to his roots and Nintendo being able to stick to his ideal of making amazing games like this one. The fact that multiplayer is hard because the players kill each other is not a problem at all, that's the point! having fun with your friends, having a great time and laugh... the very of escense of why we PLAY.

I sold my first Wii on july of '08 because 95%+ of the games have sucked ass. When I first learned that this game was coming out, I have to admit, I wanted to cry. I have been fooling myself into not caring and I have even avoided reviews and videos on YouTube. I resisted for 10 days since it came out but couldn't hold on any longer... I went out and got a new Wii today just to play this game. God, i'm pathetic. But I have to say, I have loved every second of this game!

It is though with the controls! Sometimes you say "Why did that happen?" and other things you say when your P.O.'d.

I have this game and i'm bloody addicted!

This game is basically Super Mario 1 for the NES revamped. Yes it is just as hard, platformers are all about timing and dying over and over again until you learn how to progress. Miss time a jump and your dead, i don't think it is ridiculously hard like Ninja Gaiden but it is challenging!

I play it with 2 player co-op, don't have enough wii remotes to try any more players but i'm pretty sure even if i did, it would be a complete nightmare

One thing i will say against this game, like in true old school fashion, if you lose all your lives and use a continue, you start at the very beginning of the world again, so if you lose all your lives at a castle (boss level), the 5 levels before it will be lost and you will have to re-do them all again.

It's only happened to me once but it's very frustrating and something i feel is unnecessary in today's gaming.

Glad to hear it's tough...that was surprising because I felt there were parts of NSMB for DS that were (kinda) tough in spots. Can't wait to get it!!

GOOD. I want it to be hard. Old school games had the BEST replay value, unlike much of the new trash we have these days. The only thing that has replay value are a limited number of games with multiplayer.

A new 2D Mario game that isn't on a handheld is just the thing I need to dust off my Nintendo Wii. Seriously, I haven't played it in about A WEEK. (Shock horror)

    Posted Nov 20, 2009 3:36 pm PT

Agreed, shadowpokemon12, it is about time for Nintendo to bring back classic bosses. New Super Mario Bros. (DS) had either generic bosses(cactus pocky) or bosses they made only recently (petty piranha).

Excellent game. I had put down the wii remote for the last few months, out of boredom and lack of decent games. My wife and I can't stop playing this game, it's great fun.
