Metroid: Other M Nintendo Press Conference Trailer Impressions

Nintendo and Team Ninja team up for Samus' latest adventure, and we were treated to the first trailer at the publisher's E3 press conference.

Nintendo unveiled a range of new titles for the Wii this morning at its annual E3 press conference, including New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Golden Sun DS. However, Nintendo US president Reggie Fils-Aime shocked the audience with one final reveal towards the closing moments. A new Metroid game is in the works, and the publisher is collaborating with Tecmo's Team Ninja to bring Metroid: Other M to the Nintendo Wii in 2010. Other M features the Samus Aran that fans love. However, the game's presentation and story look like quite a departure from Retro Studio's three previous Metroid Prime titles.

We saw a brief trailer during the press conference, and it looked visually stunning from the outset. The trailer began on an undisclosed planet with a female scientist having a conversation with an officer, referred to as Captain, most likely from Aran's employer, the Galactic Federation. The game looks like it will feature many of Metroid's classic elements, such as boss fights with massive creatures, including a gigantic insect that Aran climbed onto during the trailer. It looks like it will offer both a third-person perspective and a first-person visor view a la Prime.

Aran looks like she'll have some friends along the journey, and in the trailer we saw a spacesuit-wearing man talking to her. Aran's face is clearly visible through her face mask at one point in the trailer, and we also saw her briefly talking to a female scientist. Fils-Aime said Other M would be a Metroid experience "unlike any other" and would take players deeper into Samus' story and the Metroid universe. Metroid: Other M will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii in 2010.

Hmmm..... third person view? Im all for adding innovation to older franchises, yet third person view in a 3D metroid seems a little unnerving. Im afraid that Team Ninja may turn this into an all- out action game. Metroid: Other M may turn out to be what was first thought of Prime: an action game with door puzzles thrown in. lets hope that platform- adventuring stays strong. And while im at it, lets see a new 2D Metroid for the DS!!

This is the single most overwelming game I saw at E3 cause I'm a HUGE Metroid fan, and it looks like pure greatness. but like it was stated before, I hope team ninja dosn't turn Samus into a DOA character.

    And yet...

I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, and I'll probably sound like another barn animal who just asks "Is this game going to be rated M?" Ok. I said it. I know it has nothing to do with the title, the title means that there's another metroid, like they said at the end of the first metroid game. Thats all cool, but at E3, they were saying this game was "Kinda more for Adults"

There's no way I'm not getting this. 3rd-person 3D is a huge step forward for the metroid series and I REALLY want to see how they're going to do this. I particularly want to see how the transition between 3rd and 1st person is going to work.

    CAN'T WAIT!!!

I'm actually very, very concerned about this since I heard team ninja would be involved- I'm worried Team Ninja will portray Samus with the same amount of respect they portray the females in all their other games- hopefully, since Nintendo has a hand in this, it may turn out to be a great Metroid game. But fans of Metroid don't want to see Samus in one of Team Ninja's "Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball" games.

My point is- Samus is one of the most respected characters in gaming- and team ninja has shown in the past they could give a rats-as how they are portrayed.

Please Nintendo, make sure they do it RIGHT!

Another awesome metroid game coming out. I can't decide which is better, Metroid prime trilogy or this. I think this game is coming out in TBA 2010 so I'm probably gonna get trilogy instead.

Looks like it could be fun! IF team ninja gets it right... if they mess this one up, i hope they never get their hands on another metroid game... ever.
Surprising that Retro has nothing to do with it, considering that they were the masters behind the Prime series.

Looks amazing!! By the looks of the game It has the elements of the older metroid games in it (Side-scrolling fun) and the prime series (First-Person fun) combined together...Although I admit the HUD display was incredibly detailed in Prime. I'm sure this game won't disappoint, besides this is the first side-scrolling metroid game for a newer console!

Is it me or is the top photo look like a side scrolling game. I hate games like that. this better be at least a 9/10.
