Iron Chef America grills Wii, DS

Destineer and Black Lantern Studios adapting hit Food Network culinary competition for Nintendo's platforms this summer.

In October, Montreal-based Ludia dropped invective chef extraordinaire Gordon Ramsey into its cooker for a gaming adaptation of the popular Fox reality series Hell's Kitchen, due out in tandem with the fourth season of the show later this year on a range of platforms. But as Ramsey would surely agree, what good is a chef without a little friendly competition to sharpen the old blades?

Stepping up to that challenge is none other than United Media's Iron Chef America. Destineer announced today that it would be bringing Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine to the Wii and Nintendo DS. Slated for release this summer, Supreme Cuisine is in development at Black Lantern Studios, which recently adapted Rogue Pictures' Christopher Walken-led comedy Balls of Fury for the Wii and DS.

Running with the recipe popularized by Fuji Television's classic master chef throw-down Iron Chef, Iron Chef America brings the culinary coliseum stateside, pitting a number of Food Networks' top chefs against challengers from across the country following a particular theme.

Like the show, the game will be hosted by Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Double Dragon), and Destineer promises that additional cameos from the show will be named in the future. Current Iron Chef America master chefs include Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto, and Cat Cora.

Black Lantern hopes to re-create the intensity of the show, and scullions will attempt to earn the title of master chef by taking 15 theme ingredients, stirring in "hundreds of dish variations," and sautéing with 300 various minigame challenges. The game will also feature a variety of modes, including competitive and cooperative multiplayer options for both Wii and DS gamers.

Sounds interesting. I just hope it turns out to be a fun game and if so I might pick it up. Same goes for the Deadliest Catch.

    KamuiFei :

Amen to that brother. If anyone knows where to find the originals on DVD, hit me. But really, if there has to be an Iron Chef game, I'd rather play one with the original announcers, just like the show, american voice overs with the original language in the background.......

Original Iron Chef was leagues better than Food Network's imitation. I like Alton Brown though, only guy on Food Network worth watching.

They just added a new Iron Chef who name escapes me at the moment. He's the winner of a show called The Next Iron Chef what I would love to see is a cross promotion where the winner of Top Chef takes on an Iron Chef .

The chairman, Mark Dacascos, is not the fake nephew of Kaga. He is the son of Kaga's sister, Moriko McVey.

I love Iron Chef (especially the good old Japanese stuff) but any game based on it would suck...

And people wonder why the Wii isn't taken seriously anymore...

Oh, did you know that the "chairman" on ICA is Kaga's fake nephew? LOL

First Hell's Kitchen, now this. I said it before and I'll say it again, "they just HAVE to make a game out of everything".
