Retail Radar: Guilty Gear on Wii, Senko no Rondo, Hoshigami

US retailers open preorders for a new round of Japanese imports in the fighting, shooting, and strategy genres.

Japanophiles might be looking at a wealth of imported offerings from the East in the coming months. In addition to confirmed games like Ar Tornelico: Melody of Elemia, Culdcept Saga, Kororinpa: Marble Mania, and Earth Defense Force X, a number of niche import offerings have been showing up on retailer Web sites lately, including new installments in the Guilty Gear series of fighters, a revamp of an original PlayStation strategy game, and a port of an Xbox 360-exclusive shooter.

Subscription rental site GameFly currently has listings for two new Guilty Gear games, Guilty Gear XX Slash for the PlayStation 2 and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core for the Wii. Originally released in the arcades, Guilty Gear XX Slash is an upgraded version of Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (which was itself an upgrade to Guilty Gear X2, the Guilty Gear X upgrade) and contains two new characters. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is the series' latest entry in the arcades, and was only announced last August. According to GameFly, both titles are slated for a late-July release.

GameFly also has a posting for a much more methodically paced game, the DS edition of Hoshigami Remix: Ruining Blue Earth. The rental site lists a May 31 release date for the game, presumably a port of the 2001 original PlayStation strategy game Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth with added features.

Finally, CD Universe has a listing up for the character-based fighting shoot-'em-up Senko no Rondo on the Xbox 360. According to CD Universe, the game will ship in May, with Ubisoft as the publisher.

Please note, while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence; nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

    it seems that the ps2 is losing a lot of exclusives to the wii lol the indestructible ps2 will be an elder and ignored soon but the ps3 may become the powerful son that no one likes

    Guilty Gear on the Wii! YES!!
    So glad I don't have to worry about having to buy a PS3 to miss out on another generation of games. Still, it's on the PS2 as well, but I think I'll opt for the Wii version.

    i really want this for the wii. mainly because i want the wii to get popular. and fighting games is what the cube were lacking, im not really worried about the controls. i don't think they will me using the wii mote, because it doesnt have enough buttons for guilty gear. so its gunna be either classic or cube, and if thats the case ill just use my ps2 converter to play the game with my arcade stick.

    I can see Guilty Gear Accent Core coming to Japanese PS2s but I can slighty see it coming for Wii as it doesnt have to worry about HD.

    But I'd personally would rather play this game on a PS2 controller rather than the Wii.

    @LordSasori
    Apparently Bleach for the Wii was pretty good. I hope they bring that to the US...

    I've never been a huge fan of Guilty Gear... the one PS2 version i played of it seemed really slow for some reason. :/

    @hard

    what in the hell are you talking about? What store sells a wii for 500 bucks? And are you sure its not a PACKAGE. you know as in it comes with 2-3 games?

    As for the guilty gear.. This sounds to good to be true. Nintendo never had a good fighting game on their system other than their own smash bros. But outside that nothing. Im gonna hold off on the cheers until I see further proof. But if this is true, then good job Nintendo for doing something right in the 3rd party realm for a change.

    wow. I don't know which system to buy it for. I think I need the PS2 one, just for the controller....but if it uses the classic controller for the Wii, I'll change my mind.

    If the whole "GGXX accent core coming to wii" thing is true, then I shall bust a nut right here and now!

    plus it would be funny to see a bunch of fanboys getting pissed off for it being on the wii.

    it doesnt matter--the wii can come out with a thousand games but no systems to play them on except for the 4 to 5 million sold out there--and places have the wii for 500 bucks and before i pay that price for a wii--i will buy a ps3--this is bull**it nintendo--just pure bull**it

    I have Senko No Rondo Rev X for the Xbox 360. It's a fighter-shooter from a top-down perspective. It's got great variation in characters/robots, awesome music, and some really colorful and impressive visuals at times. Oh, and it also has online play.

    Diversify the Wii! Okay, now that that's out of the way, I hope Wii can finally see some actually decent new games on the Wii sometime soon, so it'll be worth the money to buy it.
