Wii to Cry Far with a Vengeance

Ubisoft officially names its forthcoming game for Nintendo's next-gen console--which sounds a lot like a reworked Far Cry Instincts Evolution; first screens inside.

In August, Ubisoft announced it was readying a Wii Far Cry game for the console's launch. Would it be a port of Far Cry Instincts Predator (Xbox 360), which was a semiport of Far Cry Instincts (Xbox), which was itself a spin-off of the original Far Cry (PC)? Or, would it be an all-new game featuring beleaguered antihero Jack Carver, who dodged mercenaries and monsters on a remote island research lab/fortress in the aforementioned games?

Now, Ubisoft has finally offered gamers their first peek at the Wii Far Cry, which as rumored, will be titled Far Cry Vengeance. However, though Ubisoft claims the game has a new story, the plot outlined sounds very much like that of the Far Cry Instincts Evolution expansion.

Like Evolution, Vengeance starts out with Carver dealing with the aftermath of Instincts, which saw him become the subject of some Island of Dr. Moreau-style experiments. As a result, Carver gained some animalistic abilities--abilities that come in handy after he's lured onto a(nother) jungle island by a femme fatale for a shady deal. In a film noir-meets-Rambo twist, the deal goes wrong, Carver is framed for murder and hunted across the island by a rebel army.

While on the run, Carver defends himself with a variety of weapons--all of which will take advantage of the Wii's motion-sensitive controllers. Ubisoft mentioned two, a machete and machine gun, which will use the Wiimote and Nunchuk to hack and aim, presumably. The controllers will also be used for such activities as feral melee attacks, throwing grenades, driving, jumping, and climbing, though Ubisoft did not say exactly how.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Ubisoft also mentioned that Vengeance will have the same "chaos" multiplayer deathmatch mode as the Xbox and Xbox 360 Far Cry titles. The release did not mention whether or not the Chaos mode would be playable offline, online, or both--an Ubisoft rep said a clarification would be coming shortly. No other multiplayer modes were mentioned.

    I was going to rent Red Steel cause I desperately wanted to try a shooter with the Wii remote but with this coming out so soon it seems like a much better investment!

    because of the better textures and lighting, the gfx do suck for wii, not that it really matters

    Nintendo said this console isnt next-gen in the graphics department. It's revolutionary because of the Wii remote. Gameplay > Graphics.

    I think it looks awesome.

    FarCry for the pc is a genius invention, the console versions are very poor show. If they manage to capture the freeroaming nature of the pc version and make good use of the movement functions of the controller then the game will be amazing. Gameplay makes a game good, graphics make it look good. But appearances can be decieving so don't judge how fun the game is to play by looking at a screenshot. Save your verdict for when you have played it. P.S PCgamer154 you call yourself a pc gamer but you have never been interested in FarCry?!!! YOU are pure suck. I bet you have never played Dues Ex or Thief either.

    ok i have never been interested in farcry and this game is pure suck awful graphics everything s-u-c-k SUCK!!!!!!!

    People don't worry about the graphics! Remember the four GameCube launch titles that where first released, the graphics looked like crap! But now look how good games look now like Resident Evil 4 and Need For Speed Most wanted for the GameCube look. Trust me the graphics will get better!

    look at the graphic, i cant believe it, it's crap!!!!
    i cant imagine how cheap the console, it's not worth 250 bucks since gamecube is 99 and almost same level of graphic

    What with this game, red steel and other games I've seen, such as Sadness, it really does look like we're going to have a much more mature nintendo on our hands.

    interesting... in the screen it shows dual wielding... perhaps they will have you shoot one gun with the nunchuck and the other with the Wii-mote?, that'd really let people go trigger happy!

    I played the original PC version......I wonder how good it will look comared to that....I ran it on a P4 w/ a Invidia 7800 grfx card. If it's close I'll be happy...might have to reserve this one. =======================================================================================================================
    I got Far Cry for PC/Laptop and couldn't get past the opening movie any suggestions? It just stopped on me

    this game may not look as good as the 360's far cry, but at least the wiis getting a far cry game. I mean at least now the wii will have a good mature rated game at launch.plus who wouldnt want to kick some merc ass using the wii-mote. i cant wait to get a hold of this game, if the multiplayer is as good as it was on 360 it will be in my wii for a long time.
