wii music - impressions

i'm not sure what to think about wii music. it's definately interesting and innovative, but i'm not sure if it is a game and for some reason i am completely nonplussed about it; i have no love or hate for it.

the game starts you off by teaching you the basics of how to use the remote and nunchuck to simulate instrument-playing. basically, there are a few different ways of holding the control pad based on whether the instrument you are playing is a guitar or drum type instrument.
using the nunchuck and wiimote to plinky-plonky on the piano is nice the first time around; it gives you a liberating feeling that music is a simple idea to grasp (i don't play any musical instruments at the moment).

so i plinked and plonked a little bit more and then there was more explanation that i skipped. i think the game goes overboard on tutorials, but wii music does seem to intend to teach and educate music. i just would prefer to get on with experimenting myself.

when you get to the main menu you can choose to experiment with 20+ instruments (and more as you earn them for doing things), form a band with some miis, or get more tutorials from a mii that looks like mozart or some other classical composer.

the songs in wii music are really.....strange. i mean, 'twinkle twinkle little star'? 'daydream believer?' i get that they are there to teach you particular rhythms, but they just don't excite. i think when ravi 'did his thing' at E3 the other year, he was really over-exagerating because that is not the experience i had.

i just wasn't compelled to play it any further. though it has made me actually want to get a real instrument and start messing around with that. so maybe it is just an 'inspirational tool'.

i hope some people, somewhere will enjoy this.
