Not all that refined, but still fun to play

User Rating: 8 | Wet PS3
To put it simply this game has a few flaws, is not that refined, and lacks originality. Take those qualities into consideration and you'd think a game is not worth it at all. But while Wet has flaws, it is by no means a broken game.

There is the POP style platforming, Max Payne Style dual wielding gun play, and common quick time even button presses. These events have been done before but they work here and are used to good effect. So in this sense the game varies and even combines all three events into one sequence several times times through out the game. But if you're looking for a hook, it is in the combat.

When you shoot while in the air, running along walls or sliding on the floor, time slows down . You always dual wield so one weapon auto targets while the other has a manual aim for you to use. In this way you can dispatch multiple foes at the same time or focus all you're fire on one enemy for a quick kill. This works well and is a lot of fun. Before you know it you'll be killing enemies while running along walls, diving through the air, and sliding on the ground. The manual targeting is finicky and it's hard to line up shots at times but being in slow motion gives you plenty of time and soon enough you realize the controls aren't much of an issue.

So therefore the shooting is fun, and despite what you might think stays fresh throughout the games 6 to 8 hour story. Speaking of the story, it's serviceable. It has it's high points, a few twists, and an anti-climactic ending. Players who go in not expecting much depth in storytelling will be fine.

So what is the overall point here? As mentioned there are flaws, but the game is fun. If you're spending time playing your copy of call of duty or uncharted then this game doesn't match up. But if you have the time and are looking for a bargain bin game that is far from perfect but still fun to play then Wet is you're game.
