Frustrating design - not enough good stuff, too much "meh"

I really, really wanted to like this game. And in the end, I did like it a little bit - kind of. But I also didn't like it. And part of me really hates it. Let me explain:

You're probably looking at this game because it looks like fun - lots of slo-mo shooting and moves. And the demo has that as well - all kinds of "kill bill" type mayhem. But the actual game... it's frustrating, because there just isn't enough "Kill Bill" and WAY too much platforming / time trials / puzzles.

The times when you are running through hallways and killing people by the dozens - that's great fun. Then the "arena" segments, where you basically do the "Crazy 88 fight" from Kill Bill are also a joy. Killing people in slow mo with dual guns and swords never gets old.

But those fun sequences are liberally broken up by "puzzle" elements, which aren't fun at all. Here you are, joyfully killing people for ten minutes, then you are transported back to Ruby's lair, where you *have* to do two timed obsticle courses in a row. And if you miss one gate or fall, forget it - start over. Or, you have to navigate a minefield and falling barrels, and there's really only one "trial and error" way through it. Or you are freefalling, and have to dodge plane debris.

These sequences would not be so bad if the platforming elements were silky smooth (like in Assassin's Creed II). But they aren't - they are a bit twitchy. You often find yourself doing something you didn't mean to do. This makes the platforming somewhat frustrating. Then, add in the fact that you *really* don't want to do this in the first place - you just want to get back to the awesome killing, and that makes it seem worse.

I'm about 5 hours in, and I'm sure I won't finish. So far, a good half the game has been these platforming/puzzle levels, and I'm really at the end of my rope. The only "platforming" part that was fun was the car sequence (that's in the demo). But it's short, and I haven't seen anything similar since.

Could have been a great game. But it's not. I only paid $30 for it, but even then, I'm not really sure that's even worth it.
