This is one of those odd games that's really hard to say anything about. Do It Yourself applies fully here.

User Rating: 9 | WarioWare D.I.Y. DS
Wow, this is an odd scenario to come across, but nothing I put up in the score, classification, and difficulty is true. The only thing that is true is how much I've actually played this, because of one thing. This is a game where it's as good as the effort that you put into it. It's a game that if you put the effort to make it a good game, it'll be a good game. Conversely though, if you don't put any effort into it, then it's a boring ballsack of a game. Boros here, to review WarioWare D.I.Y. or Do It Yourself. Boy, does THAT say it all. Let's look at this to see what I mean.

One thing I like about these collection of minigames is that they all have a decent story for what this game is. The story of this one is that Wario is running a company of minigames, and Dr. Crygor, the scientist of WarioWare, invents a game creator which allows people to make their own games. Wario obviously sees financial opportunity in this to sell for big bucks. The stories in these games are simple, but it works, because you know what you're doing. It doesn't just throw you into this incredably bizarre bulls#!t..., Smash Brothers... Also, the game does the Twisted Metal thing of having multiple story lines for each character. However, in WarioWare, the scenarios that each character is in doesn't have to make sence, and that's a problem. For example, why the hell is Mona exploring a cave? Wasn't she a pizza delivery / pop girl? What does a cave with gold have to do with any of that? Unless she's delivering pizza to the Grail Knight from Indiana Jones, I don't think that applies.

Also, DIY falls flat in that area by only having 5 storylines to choose from. What the hell? Where'd everyone else go? Did they get fired from WarioWare or something? Anyway, there is an interesting thing about the stories though. You can attach them to a group of minigames that you made, and use their stories in your minigames. That's a neat feature, but something that would make this game better is if you could make your own story section. I honestly have no idea why you can't do this... The interface seems more than capable of doing this, so why not? Unless your saving some innovation for the f@%king sequel. That's it, isn't it? They're planning on doing the same damned thing to WarioWare that they're doing to Mario. Nintendo's full of assh0les.

Speaking of interfaces, let's talk about the game making interface in this. As the story would imply, the main thing is not playing the minigames that are on the game, but designing your own to play. It's pretty simple when you get the hang of it, but I get the feeling that the ONLY reason that the game has built in games is so you know how to do certain things in your own games. Not a bad reason, mind you, but why in the hell is making a randomizer in this game such a b!#ch? I'm not talking about something happening at a random time. That's really easy. I'm talking about a random thing happening at a set time. I wanted a randomizer to select a random tile with a design on it, so the player can then try to pick the ball with the correct design. It involved having the time selection being between 1 sec. and 1 sec. and monitoring the switches of the other tiles. Everything is based on switches when making a game in this. You make certain objects monitor switches to move, that tap to activate switches, and activates the winning switch. It sounds more complicated than it is... But this is where the effort comes in. If you don't put any effort into this, then you won't get anything back from this, but this game gives you good satisfaction from creating good games that no other game can give you.

Really, the game is only as good as you make it. The score I put up at the top is just my personal experience, but if I had to give it a general score, it would have to be a ? / 10. Same with the difficulty, and the classification. Hell, you could make porno games if you wanted, but please lock them if you do. You see, when you finish making a game, you have the option of either putting the game out to the world via online shop, or you can lock the game to your cartridge. Yeah, I don't know what else to call the DS chips... So, if you're going to be obsene, please lock the games.

In conclusion, the game is as good as you want to make it. If you only put s#!t in to it, then all you'll get out is s#!t. A nice lesson that most gaming companies need to relearn, like Nintendo for example. Look Nintendo, if you stop only putting the little effort that it takes to make the same damned game over and over agian, and actually try to give us a good game, then I might stop making fun of you. Anyway, my real rating for this game is a ?, because of what you want to get out of it is what you have to put in.
