With all quiet and no new releases imminent one day I picked up Kya not expecting too much maybe some by the numbers platforming and oh boy was I taken by suprise. Kya tells the tale of a girl who along with her half brother finds herself mysteriously transported to another dimention (as you do) anyway in this bizarre new world you are instantly hunted by a group of savage wolf like fellows known as the Wolfen, Luckily you bump into some nice fellows called the Nativs who help you escape to their village anyhow once you get there you discover Kya has a talent for using this worlds magic , it also turns out that some nasty piece of work is transforming the nice Nativs into the nasty Wolfen and with your new magic powers you can exorsise Wolfen that you beat up restoring them to their friendly Nativ form, it turns out you might as well save the world ayway since you'll need to travel all over it to secure the pieces of the magic medalion you need to get home. Anyway story aside lets talk gameplay, the combat is pretty decent I haven't had so much fun beating up wolves since back in the days where I used to wear that red hooded cape...(that was a joke you understand i'm not actually little red riding hood.) anyway the combat flows smoothly the only thing that winds me up is that the auto lock on feature useful as it is for fighting doesn't help much if you are trying to run away that aside though it's a pretty solid system. The other general platforming elements are pretty cool especially the free fall sections in which Kya falls downwards (Either from great heights or into deep holes) you dodge the obstacles along the way, Kya also gets into a little boarding action in some sections too, but thats just the start of the list there are lots of different activities for Kya to get into some of the best being sections where Kya while riding on the back of a native beast chases a train or other vehicle. Also thrown in for good measure are a good few platforming based puzzles which keep the game from being a no brainer affair. So gameplay's down lets talk about presentation, well as much as I enjoyed it I have to say Kya for me doesn't really make it into the presentation league of series like Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter the cut scenes arn't of a similar standard, the humor just isn't quite there and the plot doesn't even land in the same ball park, simarlarly the graphics aren't quite as polished and I stumbled across a good number of glitches throughout the title but never the less I found it very enjoyable. So the lowdown really great, suprisingly so but could have been a little bit better, personal improvements I would call for would be slightly more responsive controles, bolder presentation ....so all in all very good but just a fraction away from being truly excellent.
