Almost flawless, blends to different genres together to create its own unique game.

User Rating: 8 | Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine PS3
Story: The story takes place in the Warhammer 40K universe on a planet called Graia, a planet which is used for developing machines of war. The planet has been over run by a massive amount of alien Orks, who seem a bit more serious at this assault then just being just a nuisance. Players assume the role of Captain Titus, an Ultramarine who has been sent in to clear out the planet of Orks. Along side him are two other Ultramarines, Sidonus and Leandros. After a little while on the planet they receive a distress call from an Inquisitor named Drogan, who believes that he may have a weapon that they can use to stop the Orks. That is the main point of the story until about half way through where the story takes a twist and the main objective changes. The story itself isn't terrible or anything, its just nothing really special. The pacing is a little off, the characters are really not all that interesting and to be honest I saw the twist coming from about a mile away. The good really boils down to the good voice acting; and the lore of Warhammer is always interesting. If you want a decent enough story to get you through then this will keep you engaged, just don't except anything special, its not terrible and to be honest the story it probably the weakest part of the game.

Graphics: The graphics are well done for the most part, but there are a few problems. For starters the environments are not anything special, there mostly just destroyed buildings and industrial complexes. Some of the textures aren't the best and there are few little bugs like clipping here and there. Now what is good, well pretty much everything else. The animations look great, the blood is very well done, and the sound effects are pretty good. Like I mentioned before, the voice acting is well done. The amount of enemies on screen is impressive. The effects like the fire and the explosions look pretty good. Now probably the best part is that the designs for the Orks, Space Marines, and Chaos Faction all look top notch and resembles the Warhammer desk top game. While the environments could look better, but everything else looks great.

Gameplay: Now this is where Warhammer really gets it right, the gameplay. The game blends two different genres (third person shooting and action) almost flawlessly. First let's start with the melee/action portion. You get a number of different melee weapons such as a chainsword, battle axe, and thunder hammer to name a few (but I think that is it). The melee combat isn't terribly deep with a hundred different combos to pull off, but honestly who cares because it is so much fun just shredding through waves of hundreds of Orks with ease. The next mechanic that will either be a hit or a miss is that the only way to regain health is by performing a finisher, these finishers look great and really pack a punch, but however if you are performing one this leaves you open to taking a lot of damage so be careful and be prepared to have some cheap deaths. The melee combat works very well and this game truly makes you feel like a badass. The transition from shooting to melee is swift and easy, meaning you can go from shooting to melee in no time at all. Now on to the shooting, this is pretty standard. You have a number of different weapons to use, but all of them feel like the standard, machine gun, pistol, sniper rifle etc. You will get a slight variation of each weapon type which helps mix it up, but the shooting is pretty standard, this isn't a bad thing at all. Along the way you will be fighting a number of different enemies such as a pretty good variety of Orks and eventually you will fight the Chaos faction (evil Space Marines). There are also a few bosses but none are really all that special. Although the game doesn't rewrite the book for action games or third person shooters, it does enough right to make it truly unique and give it, its own place in the action and third person shooting genres.

Multiplayer: While the multiplayer is fun, it is really nothing special and to be honest I don't think it will last more than a few months. You get your standard, death match; capture the flag, territory control etc. What is cool is that you can create your own type of Space Marine and customize their armor to your liking and this can be a good time. While the multiplayer is fun, it is nothing special and probably won't last very long.

Over all:

Story: 7 while not horrible, it is nothing really new. However it is good enough to keep you going and trust me this is very important for a story.

Graphics: 8.5 while it has its few short comings, everything else from the design, to the sound and the effects are pretty much top notch.

Gameplay: 8.5 does a great job at mixing in third person shooting and action to make it, its own unique game.

Multiplayer: 7 while fun will most likely be dead in a little while, but you never know and customization for your Space Marine is awesome.

Enjoyment: 8 top be honest, I was pretty surprised with this game, and I thought it was going to be just a cash in on the Warhammer franchise but I got a pretty damn good game that truly makes you feel like a badass, more than any other game that I have played anyway.

Final Score: 7.8 (8)
