Much slaughtering of orks(orks with a k not a c for you LOTR fans).

I'm not going to pretend to know any of the back story in the warhammer universe, nor is it my intent to offend any of the diehards of said series. I'm just reviewing this game on its merits having no previous knowledge. I found this game in a bargain bin and figured it would be a good way to kill a little time. And that's what it did; kill a little time. The one thing this game got right was the combat. Your character has access to melee weapons and ranged weapons. You will have a melee weapon in your inventory at all times and 3 ranged weapons. To really enjoy this game you need to employ the use of both types of weapons. The transition between swatting your foes and blasting them is quick and smooth. It has to be because you will be treated to wave after wave of enemies. You'll smash them with hammers, shoot them with lasers, blow them up with grenades, and just reek general mayhem with an impressively varied array of armaments. The enemies I mentioned before aren't so impressively varied. You'll fight the same green orks over and over and then you will fight the same red demons over and over. The combat is fun, but the game falls into a repetitive rhythm that it can't seem to break. There will be no puzzles, or change of pace sequences, or exploration. You will walk a bit, then fight a bit, walk a bit, then fight a bit. The environments are a mixed bag. The backgrounds are full of large moving objects and intriguing vistas. The immediate surroundings are a blandly colored series of walkways and elevators. The story and characters are also bland. The dialogue is lame as well. You play as an elite space marine dressed in lovely baby blue armor. Everyone(orks included) has a british accent. You will hear "Space Marines!" and "Kill those Space Marines!" repeatedly. You will also hear the word lieutenant pronounced luftenant repeatedly. I guess I understand what it feels like when a brit plays an Americanized game now. The graphics aren't real great, the attention to detail just isn't there. The music is forgettable as well. The difficulty is somewhat lacking. The controls are simple and easy to learn, but a little slow witted at times. The final boss fight is a let down, though expected considering what the rest of the game was like. Think a huge series of various enemy waves.

Last thoughts: Fun 3rd person combat that goes nowhere fast. Fans of the series and action junkies will enjoy. People looking for substance not so much.
