Kill Team may not be a master piece, but it is certain a tasty appetizer before the main Space Marine course.

Warhammer 40000:Kill Team aims to be a basic run and gun shooter, which is exactly what it is. While it may not have the longest campaign for a game of it's kind, Kill Team puts together a interesting group of levels (6 in total) and creates a fantastic shooter. It may not go down in history, but compared to early Warhammer incarnations this is not just a great game but the serious fan service we Warhammer 40k fans have been waiting for. Sadly though the lack of an experience level up system detracts from the longevity of the game, by the end of the first play through you will pretty much have seen everything Kill Team has to offer. While Kill Team is fun, one play through is about all you'll need unless you usually have a buddy to play with. While Co-Op is always fun, this game doesn't have much to bring you back a second time.

Gameplay-
As long as a arcade shooter is what you're looking for this should be right up your ally. Kill Team is simple yet fun, over the top yet manageable and if you're a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, this is a nerdgasm waiting to happen.

Graphics -
As this generation of consoles life cycle comes to a close (regardless of what Sony and MS claim) the outdated graphics of games are going to become more and more obvious. While not horrible, the game certainly doesn't provide the best graphics even for an arcade title. Still the style stays true to the WH40k universe and while it may not look the best, I have yet to see any slow down during play even when getting pummeled by a legion or Orka or Tyranid.

Controls-
Kill Team does pretty much everything well for a shooter of it's type and doesn't try to complicate controls. They're simple and responsive. If I had to complain it would be about two things. 1- holding sprint should keep you sprinting, sadly 'sprint' is more of a ten foot rush which can be repeatedly infinitely but requires the animation for the sprint to end before it can begin again. 2- The interact button is Y, shoot is the right thumb stick. It becomes a little complicated to hold y AND shoot baddies at the same time, luckily if you are willing to spider your fingers you are able to actually do BOTH at the same time and trust me, you'll need it.

Mechanics -
Kill Team runs smoothly throughout, keeping the game moving while the endless horde of orks come at you. One glitch to mention is that sometimes baddies will get stuck outside of the level, making it impossible to kill them. This wouldn't be so bad except most of Kill Team is a kill all the baddies to proceed type of game, this means when a baddy gets stuck you have to restart last checkpoint. Thankfully restarting checkpoint is a quick and painless process, other than the progress you lose of course. Kill Team also has no online features, other than leader boards, which means this "co-op" game is forced to be couch co-op. I find this sad because while SO many games are leaving behind couch co-op which I'm always complaining about, if you don't have a friend to play with at home you're outta luck. My final complaint in the mechanics department is there is no real level up system, it would have been nice to see the experience system from Dawn of War carry over to this.

Final Thoughts

While Kill Team is great, it's not the best. It's missing a few key things that would make it an epic shooter of it's kind. I recommend the following.

-Move the interact button to a trigger so shooting and interacting are easier at the same time.
-An experience system, something to make me want to play more than once through the campaign.
-A deeper weapons selection and possibly even modifiable weapons would be beautiful.
