Good melee mechanics; however, absurdly ignores the laws of physics for missiles, and is becoming pay-to-win.

Update: With each patch, they move further from a realism based game to an arcade experience. Downgrading score.

This is a beautiful game. For the most part, it aims for realism versus the arcade experience of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. It attains this in almost all cases. You swing and you hit, models/animations match what happens (which, if you've played Chivalry, you know this is apparently hard to achieve).

There are some bizarre game-play problems, though. They, for some reason decided to turn history on its head. Instead of archers fearing cavalry, it is the other way around. Instead of peasants with sticks fearing knights, it is the other way around.

Archers are currently a huge problem: In a "realism" game, archers/crossbowmen:

1- Have a targeting reticle (they had these in Medieval times, really). At most ranges, put the dot on the target's head and fire. This is a joke.

2- They fire the same way, every time, predictably. Real medieval missles did this to. Actually, they don't. Devs apparently never fired a bow in their life. This compounds,

4- Are not effected by wind, rain, snow (they didn't have wind in Medieval times, really).

5- Have x2-x4 zoom... someone thought they should be sniper rifles. (they had sniper scopes in Medieval times too)

6- Can kill a 3,000 lb fully armoured horse with one shot, across the map (en mass they were effective in Medieval times, but here a solo archer is a equivalent to a WW2 sniper - see Red Orchestra).

The above leads to 100% kills/headshot ratios. Put dot on target, fire = win

And they made sticks do as much damage as heavy weapons, leading to guys wearing nothing but cloth doing zipping around killing knights (which, of course, never happened, but you can do that in this game). All in all their weapon system needs to be reworked. Light, cheap weapons, rip through plate like butter, while a longsword has to accurately stab to cause damage to plate.

Worth buying on a sale, would be great if they fix the absurd ahistorical inaccuracies.
