Vigilante 8 Arcade tries to bring back the old vigilante taste, but failed in some large parts.

I loved the old v8 games. Drive around collecting weapons and smashing others with them. There were cool secret places where you could set something off to beat down your opponents, or hidden places where you could find a special weapon for your vehicle. But in this remake there is nothing new and the original things that made the game great are now gone or altered. While some will like the addition of the charge up weapons instead of the directional button combination to shoot off different shots from the weapons; I just don't like it. You use to be able to shoot off a special shot in an instant, but now you have to wait while it charges to shoot it off. And what is with the repair pickups. It seems as if you can only use one repair pickup once from each place on the map. Why don't they respawn? I would also like it more if they let you choose either how many lives you have or implement a scoring system based on cars killed compared to how many times you were killed. I just don't like the one life thing unless there is more health pickups. I'm not sure why they did this, but special weapons seem to be way too plentiful on the maps. It use to be hard to get your special, but now they're everywhere. It really gets annoying when your opponent always has their special. I would have also liked to see more new maps and cars, and maybe even some new weapons. But I'm sure that Microsoft will make us pay for them as downloadable content. The gameplay itself is still fun and there is some replayability with it. Overall I would say that it is a game for the fanboys of the series, but don't set the bar of expectation too high.
