This game came out at the perfect time; I had JUST started XCOM on my PS3 when my friend asked to borrow my PS3 and I let him. You can also find a game similar to the original X-Com: UFO Defense called "Aliens Versus Humans" on the App Store. It's quite unbearable. But yea; other than lighting and textures, this is a near perfect port. One of my favorite games of all times.
Game isn't bad.
I wish my first save hadn't been Iron Man.
It was fun until I realized how much BS gets pulled during later portions.
I loved this game, unfortunately on the higher difficulties it becomes unbearably cheap. Still, for $20 a playthrough on Normal is a no-brainer
@the_big_doggg I think this gets the award for the most idiotic comment of the month. Congrats, sir. It takes real talent to achieve that award.
@Thathanka The only part "broken" I encountered on the PC version, was at the last level. Right before you have to enter the last boss enclosure. Would be nice if a prompt displayed on the screen which states "Must destroy all enemies prior to fighting last boss". Other than that, the enemies "cheap shots" which could kill high level squad mates in one shot. Still a great game though.
Broken? How was the pc game broken? I played it just fine and everything worked. Or was the harder difficulty too hard? or the easy too easy?
@PinchySkree yeah, I turned it off pretty soon Was surprised not only by the lack of quality but how few tracks!
@bluefox755 Have to admit that annoys me a bit too. Reminds me of 14yr olds talking on facebook.
@lanasrj I don't know why anyone would play this game on Normal difficulty... sounds like a complete waste of time. Either you go Classic or you go Impossible. Anything else that's not supplemented with copious amounts of second wave options and Ironman is just boring.
@lanasrj what do you mean by unbearably cheap?
@Jamoid @bluefox755 Zac Effron has a "YOLO" tattoo... Not sure why I felt that was worth mentioning... lol
@kingcole225 @lanasrj I think if the save options were a bit more robust I'd be inclined to agree with you; as it stands though, unless you want to manually save a new slot before every potentially fatal move, you're boned on those higher difficulties. I guess that's the allure for some people though, and more power to them :)
In higher difficulties cover is useless. Even if you use cover behind full defended objects the alien lasers still can kill you with only just one shot....Cheap means THAT THE ALIEN AI IS CHEATING
@lanasrj is called a RANDOM number generator for a reason... what are you on about? Those don't sound like glitches at all.
Only glitch I even encountered was the aliens spawning in on top of my squad, though this only happened a couple times and isn't exactly "game breaking" by any means...
@LeFeverBeaver @kingcole225 @lanasrj It completely defeats the point of the game to save before everything. I would say that the only way to play the game would be Classic or Impossible Ironman (hopefully with Damage Roulette, Not Created Equally, and enemy health off) if there wasn't the off-chance teleport or LOS glitch every now and then. The fact of the matter is that XCOM on normal is so stupidly easy that it's just a plain old waste of time. It's like a Call of Duty campaign without the set pieces. I guess that's probably the allure too, but I gotta admit that I don't think very highly of people who never want to challenge themselves.
As someone who has beaten the game ironman no loss on all difficulty levels...
You must be doing it wrong.
The only way you can do no loss at the highest difficulty is to use full cover, and only full cover. Sometimes you get hit anyway, but you have to bring that possibility into the equation when planning your moves.
@Simplythebest12 exactly. The point is when you have 100% shots, they shouldn't miss just so you can dramatically lose half your squad to one alien
@lanasrj @Dienheart @Toysoldier34 @BrutalPandaX2 You realize that the reason you miss 100% shots is because the percentage to hit is actually a float value (allows for decimals) that has been rounded to an integer value right? Missing a 100% chance shot isn't even a bug; it's just shoddy presentation on the developers part. So what you're saying is that you "constantly" miss when you have a 99.5 or higher % chance to hit... Either you're the most unlucky person in the world or you're just lying. I've played more than 60 hours of this game and I've never missed a 100% shot.
