hey i just got here and is there a video streaming at the moment? cos i'm just getting a black screen...
Jesus Christ, how many times did he have to shout commands at it? Sounds like the new Kinect is as unresponsive as the previous one
So who's leaving theirs unopened till Christmas? I'm at work and my wife's phoned to say its arrived. Shall I set it up tonight?
I really hope they have an update to change your Xbox's name from Xbox to what ever your heart desires :)
Really got to hand it to 'em for keeping their composure. Having to say "xbox" that many times would have drove me insane.
seems like previous kinnect, you still need to repeat yourself to death until it finally understands
Chris you need to make more of those race videos (@1 hour 40 min ) ! Best part of the stream right there haha. I can see how the "record that" function being very handy for those exact purpose. Probably the most useful out of the voice commands (at least feels like so to me).
I was feeling embarrased for Microsoft when they were doing the voice thing. That feature should never be used, there is never a good enough reason not to use a controller.
2:07:49 in Call of Duty Ghosts this Tessellation are already in Call of Duty 3 nothing new I know ghosts cleary the winner graphics but Ghosts has very poor textures for next-gen consoles I never thought next-gen gonna be like that any of game even MW2 on current-gen has better ground textures!
Xbox died at 720p, I know some games have 1080p but that sad not all games some of them 720 & some 1080. :(
Google Now on my phone used to be inaccurate but the more I used it the better it got used to me. I was slightly disappointed at first in the responsiveness to voice commands by Danny and Chris, but later on I realized that 1) they were going back and forth throughout the video saying commands 2) Initially constantly switching a single controller 3) introducing a 2nd controller 4) not saying the correct verbiage (if you will) in order to execute the correct commands they wanted to do (esp. Danny).
If it learns like the original Kinect did and works in a similar way to how my phone with Google Now works (in other words, learns your voice, the speed at which you say things, and your vocal timbre/inflection/accent then I think it would work out okay. I think where I have the biggest issue is in the time it would take the system to learn those traits from my friends who are not using the system, or over at my house, -obviously-, as much as I am. Which to me would make things feel a bit gimmicky or 1-sided to them...
I hope Microsoft seriously works on getting this thing not only more responsive but also adds in a ton of other voice commands. I also think that being able to change the "xbox" command to something else make a whole lot of sense. Chris and Danny said xbox how many times during this??? I mean c'mon.... It's needs to become "snappier" -- BIG TIME!
The hand gestures seems pretty responsive.. that's a start. Make some big upgrades in the voice system and fluidity of the system (jeez it took a long time for the snap NFL feature to load..) and I think it would be a start.
Additional items I'd like to see:
1) Voice typing - this is a must! It needs to happen. If Google Now can do it then there's absolutely NO reason why M$ can't
2) Decrease loading/switching times
3) Make user switching (controllers or not) more on-the-fly and quicker
4) Be able to change how you address the xbox.... Saying "xbox" all the time is ridiculous. Give me short list of keywords that easily navigates the menus would be better.
5) Allow the TV pass through to record shows to the xbox DVR. To my knowledge this isn't currently supported.
Try putting and removing a face mask or something that changes your head look significantly, while standing still, just to see how the Xbox react!
Adam Moore unless you own a PS4 your logic is severely flawed. I have not had 1 issue playing my PS4. So I have no clue as to what the hell your talking about.
It's pretty intuitive, even tho I don't see myself using voice commands if I can help it. But if I'm skeptical of something it's the possibility of interruption while you're playing. It's even in their ads, guy is doing something then the girl comes in and tells xbox to do something else. I would assume the 'always listening' can be turned off?
would it not be easier to press a button than to say "Go to Dead Rising 3"?Also when you tried to go to "Preferances" in "Settings" The X1 would not recognice your commands because "Preferances" was not written in green text.
Voice commands seems to work fine unless abused.
i do not understand why put someone with a different accent in charge of testing a console that is heavily localized BASED ON ACCENT?
yes, this XB1 is meant for NA English accent, why is an Irish dude with a strong accent even trying to make it work?
it is the same as making an American/Canadian try the British version...
This video is amusingly hilarious due to over-sensitivity of our dear Kinect :)). DEAD RISING, DEAD RISING, WHO SAID DEAD RISING :))
I gotta admit, seeing Danny's smug, grinning face plastered all over Gamespot used to annoy me greatly, but after watching this video I think I am warming to the still annoying, but charming Irish bugger that he is. So yes, it's a magic video. As for Kinect, what a shame, I was hoping for so much more - Oirish Accent or otherwise.
You know there is a lot of trolling Sony Fanboys on here bragging about how PS4 is better and voice commands are terrible, but Sony released a day one patch to allow for voice commands on their console (even though they thought it was not a good idea) and watching the Sony live stream the PSEye is like a Kinect prototype. It was just a complete failure. So, lets spend months knocking a company for an idea, only to turn around, try to mimic the idea, and fail ourselves. I feel Sony and their Fanboys will be their own worst enemy during this "Console War".
P.S. Don't forget, South Park, continues its epic XB1 vs PS4 debate, with tonight's episode
well good to see that voice commands are still useless, faster just to use buttons. Plus the UI seems slow, screen transitions.
Am i the only one who does not like the speed of the UI? Transition between screens looks too slow (for my taste) and the UI looks like it was made to use voice commands (2-3-4 screens and their transition time vs 0.5-1 sec response to a voice command)?
It feels like the UI was intentionally slowed down to encourage the voice commands. And voice commands seem that work in about 80-90% of the time which is good, but if you count the time for saying a command, wait for an activation and then wait for the transition (if there is one) it looks painfully slow and frustrating. Thou i was impressed by the recording option via 1 command.
If MS makes more "shortcut" voice commands (like the record command), it could really be good in the future. But for now it looks like almost every MS product, buggy, unstable and unreliable in the start, with a good potential in the future.
Maybe some patches will iron this out, or the next console will make this really awesome.
Aww bf4 with all the crashes and data corrupt sounds like fun. And ghost right now at 1080p is getting frame drops everywhere. And killzone what's that lol. Maybe knack is playing good which is like frogger or something
@Shango4 as we welcome the new consoles that will give us hallo, legend of Zelda, grand turismo, Forza, Fable, ratchet and clank, metroid, starfox, and mario ... Lol
@athrun07 IMO I completely disagree, well to some extent. Did you see how much faster it was using the voice compared to the controller on certain things. But yea I agree it is useless when it comes to using it when your already on the screen and all you have to do is press A lol But when switching to upload, using snap, going to settings I think it is pretty practical
@Death_Masta187 You watched the full 3 hours and didn't realize you didn't want to watch it? You need a job.
@NoAngle Interesting that the PS4 didn't have much problem understanding Danny.
@xboxps2cube games are like 50gb each to download aren't they,i would just buy games in retail form if i was you and just download indy games, demos
@xboxps2cube I'm not buying another game til I get a 1TB drive. I fear it won't be enough as well over the lifetime of the console.
@xboxps2cube - i'm worries taht 1TB isn't enough either
@swhite1144 = i love south park, but they are so out of touch of most people with that episode it is hard to find it funny.
@noirtenshin I don't find 0.5 sec-1 sec being a problem...again people who are not fans of the XB1 will knit pick at every miniscule detail.
@noirtenshin The problem is Kinect and it's learning curve as most reviews are pointing out it does get better at recognizing your commands over time, so at first a combo of controller input and voice commands will be pretty necessary. As for the UI's actual speed, naturally patches will increase it's speed over time.
Trolling attempt? Never thought I'd see someone complain about the response time being ONLY 0.5 seconds (if it is that much).
It was just struggling to understand Danny because Microsoft haven't sorted it for Irish accents yet.
@richthequick Ghosts said it was 32GB, but when I started downloading it I only saw 14GB. Doesn't matter it's a fair indication of what to expect.
@k9kal85 @noirtenshin i think you said it right. People who are not fans of the XB1.
If am not a fan, that means that i will look at as it is, without ignoring the things that are not to my liking.
P.S. If am not a fan of XB1 that doesn't mean am a fan of PS4. Am just looking at the system, and thinking about it.
Am kinda sad that PS4 doesn't have voice commands (on this level), and it really looks like the future of gaming (or gaming support for a console). I was just hoping it would work better/faster.
Guess the pc (response time) spoiled me.
@ssdd_again @noirtenshin nah am not trolling, it seems that the time between transition is around 1 sec (pure transition without the waiting for command recognition).
I can understand the learning curve and why it struggles to recognize Danny's accent (no offence meant to Irish folk :)), but i can't understand that you need 10-15 sec to do something you want, with that kind of available input.
Am also saying that i think it will get better (the system) and you are right it will get even more better when the user learns how to use it.
Am also saying, that this will be a blast when the input gets patched or a dedicated core or CPU where the system will respond in "real time". I see the lag between voice and kinect inputs (and the system responding to that input), and that is a great turn off for me.
@k9kal85 @xboxps2cube @Jdzspace Pretty sure SkyDrive requires Xbox Live Gold, so it doesn't avoid the problem but requires you to pay for it to "disappear", or rather, be postponed until you fill up your allotted space and be required to pay for more. 200Gbs will set you back 100$ to give you a taste of what one might expect to pay.
I have to disagree with K9 in regards to Nior's comment. I think your comment was an honest objective look at this demonstration.
I personally dont mind the latency but do agree the UI seems a little choppy. I imagine this will get ironed out in updates like all MS projects (agreeing with you). However i think the innovation being presented here is definitely a huge step forward in the way users interact with their media.
