Xbox One - Media Player Preview
Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson chats with Albert Penello on the Xbox team about the upcoming Media Player, including DLNA support.
Very nice MS. Now just get a PLEX app and you finally got that Media Center PC you've been trying to build for the last 15-years.
@bigrod69 The pitfalls of closed systems, nothing you can do, except not buy them :). I buy consoles, stupidly perhaps :), and although a few times I tried to make one of them my media center, it never works as well, easy, or versatile as a PC and so I just stick with PC time and time again.
@hystavito @bigrod69 I've been building media center PCs since about 2000 and I've built tons of them during that time for myself and for others. The biggest issue with a media center PC was always the software - Windows XP Media Center Edition was a good start, but too limited - then there were 3rd party apps that did everything but the UI stunk. I have the money to just get everything and I've tried everything over the years - and PLEX is by far the best overall software I've ever used. Once Plex is on the XB1, which was announced for this fall, then you truly have a world class media center since it can do cable TV, it can do all your Netflix/VUDU/Amazon/HULU stuff, it has voice search for things like, "westerners from the 70s" and you have PLEX with everything it has going for it. I'm very excited about the future of the XB1 as the ultimate all-in-one system.
