Tell that to Edge who had to retire because if he took one more wrong move, he would be in a wheelchair. The finishes are predetermined, but the moves do hurt. That ring does hurt.
Give us a darn story mode instead of the silly Universe which takes hours to get anything worth playing setup!
liked it better when activision was making the wrestling games hit a button & boom instant action vs thq's way of hitting a button to counter or block & boom taken down because no action just after hitting the button :-(
Why do people watch men yell at each other and then "fight" each other in very little clothing is beyond my comprehension.
Really wish this was coming out for the xone. I don't know if I can justify spending $60 on a LAST GEN GAME.
i remember one of the smackdown vs raw series had pretty good career mode .... i was hoping it mite comeback ... this is nice but it makes me wanna rewatch those wrestlemania moments rather than play the game tbh
You know the Undertaker is coming for you right now, don't you Tom? You can't just tell people to humiliate him, and not expect him to show up at your doorstep...
I still can't get over how poor these games look. They look like high-gloss PS2 graphics and should be much better than this considering how far into the series we are now.
The last wrestling game I played that I truly loved was WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role for the PS1. The completely randomized and never-ending career mode in that game was tremendous and they haven't really done anything like it since.
Man, those wrestler models look horrible. Why does everyone look plastic? I hope the 2K team gives Yukes the boot and starts fresh for the next-gen.
Reminds me of the first WCW on the N64. Ah, the memories :).
One big aspect of the old school wrestling was announcers who were so into the match, so engrossed in it that they started shouting nearly incoherently as something "unexpected" happened and the crowd went wild. Yeah it was staged, but it was entertaining!
As Jeremy Clarkson said, America is good at taking a seemingly simple event and making it entertaining. Like NASCAR.
Even though I know it's all fake, I still can't say I don't like Wrestling. Yes, it's a fighting soap opera, but what can I say? That dumb formula works with me. I barely watch any Wrestling these days, but when I do (mostly WWE Experience, I don't think Smackdown, RAW and ECW are even broadcasted in my country by now), I have the time of my life watching it and catching up on the latest feuds and rivalries. And I still get goose bumps whenever I hear DX's entrance song on some old video.
It wouldn't be Wrestemania if the Spanish Announce Table didn't demolished in the middle of a match.
Looks kinda dumb...
As a nostalgia factor, I believe it's more appealing to Americans (we got a few seasons back in Brazil with the classic long haired Undertaker, during the Aklaim(?) games).
And as a fighting game, well... lol
@Uesugi-dono I'm not sure what that is... Sounds like a bird thing.
@diskotheque Being annual releases, they never go full-out on any games ever. It makes sense though, as the very product it represents is retarded as fuck, and the fanbase who willfully purchase tickets to support this crap aren't a whole lot brighter.
@ohjtbehaaave agree, on thing this game never moved forward on was its engine and now with 2k running things well it still hasn't moved forward. Though we can't look past it is the first one and 2k is known for bringing out good games. Only thing I'm worried about is that with no competition, they might slack off a little.
@SavoyPrime I wish AKI were still around, No Mercy still stands as undefeated. They wouldn't even have to make annual games, just one really good game again.
However, since it's WWE we're talking about here, Yukes will keep shitting out piss-poor games, expecting people to pay for them every year cause that's what's "best for business."
@soilworker651 It's always good to run into another fan of the AKI wrestling engine. All AKI's wrestling games are better than any of this stuff that has released since the N64 era. Yukes just isn't anywhere near as good as they were in my opinion.
@assassingirl015 It's best that way.
@SavoyPrime @soilworker651 This is why investing your time and money into a game that has virtually no one to compete with is a bad idea. We see it all around in the sports world of games both EA and 2k are at blame. Look at football games before it was just EA, both sides making great games. After EA buys out the license, the game goes to shit. Same with basketball games, both sides making great games (EA slacking a little towards the end) once EA stopped making Basketball games 2k started to slack, heres to hoping things go back on track with 2 NBA games now. Don't get me started with Baseball EA killed it with them until they stopped making them, now 2k just makes shit if it wasn't for Sony making mlb the show baseball games would be another thing to avoid completely. Lets not forget all the other sport games but you get the point lol.
