Hm, I was hoping for a focus on Draenei, they've been pretty much abandoned since their introduction and it's an interesting race, they've got lots of potential, instead it's more orcs :/ Waiting for more info on this xpac but it doesn't seem likely that I'd sign up for this (though I probably would have if it was about Draenei).
It looks like they took a dozen different concepts they could have easily added in a MoP patch and clustered them all into an "expansion". No new races. No new classes. Just minor upgrades to everything across the board. Like the farm from MoP? Here's slightly MORE farm! Tired of the old character models? Here's slightly MORE polygons! It's neat and all, but nothing I've seen so far has even come close to blowing my hair back.
So far the most exciting aspect of the entire expansion for me will just be getting out of that gaudy mock Chinese gift shop I've been stuck in for the better part of a year, and if that's not a sad state of affairs, I don't know what is.
I accepted Cataclysm with open arms and enjoyed it. Refused to play pandaria. Seriously blizzard, leave the vegetative, life-support needing, and beaten horse alone. I used to love WoW so much...
It's amazing how much I wish this was an expansion for a new Warcraft RTS. In fact just about every WoW expansion would have been fine as part of a Warcraft 4 RTS. But we'll never see those days again....
i had a blast when i played wow ..sold my acc in the end for 250 euros so..
i would love to play it again..love the fact of aliance vs horde in real time ( pvp server) makes the game tricky and randomish..i gave up cause raids drained me out
No rush tho..maybe when /if/someday/whoknows FREE
wooho!! hail to the idiots who spend $ 15/month on this endlessly until the end of their lives!! yet ANOTHER expansion comes as the "traditional" move from blizz to keep WOW alive, and the idiots keep on buying and playing...
I think I'm looking for something new. I'll hold out hopes for Everquest next, but do not trust to hope, it is forsaken in these (MMO) lands.
Even TES online doesn't look that appealing to me.
I think this looks pretty sweet! The new character models look nice. I wish that they would re-skin the whole world including that ancient fugly sky-box
So...Well probably I am not the only one here who is a "veteren"of Wow but...I have to say the game was good when it came out what am I saying here was great.
Sure sure it had his down parts like the long leveing precess the many hours of farm...but those hard parts made the social good cuz ppl back then help each other did not scream and shouted at the 1st mistake...If you ppl remeber MC(molten core) how hard it was but how good it was when raggy came down...Anyways thats not the main ideea back then the dev team acutly had a vision of the game
Then TBC came out well was fun was new was easyer but not easy I liked can't say I haven't.
Then WOLK came good good expension acutly thought that is the end of wow I was wrong(tho the story so far was LK this LK that kill LK etc)
Cata-that was worste expension possible no clue of what they did take old content remake it wtf was wrong with them I mean really dev team you cant even get some good ideas?rly?
MOP-Sure well if I were blizzard and I was going down the drain I would sure make everything in my power to attract more ppl on the largest market I have Asia so yes good move Blizzard
But now this honestly guys I mean remaking the Outlands you need some with creation or what is wrong there ppl you are boosting ppl from 1-90 instatly so reduce the low lvl detalis of those wow zone and comeout with new ideeas if your affraid your game is becomeing to large....
Honestly blizzard you are supporting the wrong part here you want cheap cash from kids ok but that won win you anything on the long run trust me
Most of my ex guildies quited cata-mop and they were ppl who played since vanilla all the way to cata/mop and with ages of 24-40 and to get to the point a person with the age of lets say 15-16-whatever max you want here, will not quit when a new game "God of war"Ëvil dead"etc will come out on the other hand kids will...So yes blizzard short burst of subs will make you lose on the long run cuz even if the money comes slower from 1 player then from 10 of this "new pros" they will come slow and sure while from this kids will come in burst but short...
No offence I am 100% there are new players who are mature and acutly good but most of them in LFR and even guild runs are just dumb asses
Please stop this abomination and make Warcraft 4.
And I hope whatever happened in WOW happened in an alternate universe.
No other game captured my attention quite like WOW did. Nine years ago when vanilla was released, I was memorized. Online gaming wasn't new, but it wasn't nearly as commonplace or available as it is today. I loved it and played that game with enthusiasm for 3-4 years. Seeing this trailer makes me want to go back in and explore Azeroth again, even with the aging graphics. Sadly, like many here, I'm nine years older, I have a family, higher level job and I just don't have the time to put in the game.
They should take Things DOWN a bit. Make a story based game that focuses on a smaller event. The universe has so much lore.
Like War in the North in the LotR universe. Good game, but too shallow.
Be it stategi like warcraft III or more assassins creed style (without freerunning)
Sad, just sad how Blizzard desperately wants to restore WOW to it's former glory by overblowing things. Why can't they just accept the fact that, apart from the people who still play it's old content over and over again, this franchise is d.e.a.d. I say this to Blizzard: "Focus on another saga with more dormant potential: STARCRAFT."
I've been hardcore WoW player for four years. Quit when WOLTK came out. I like the idea of building your own garrison... reminds me of original wow's concept, that everyone could build his own house in SW. Could give this a try... if i don't need to spend eur100+ on all the expansions i've missed
Just pathetic. Seriously pathetic. Now they're straight up ripping the one game they fear most at the moment,Wild Star.
They have been stealing other upcoming MMO's ideas and original concepts for years, attempting to maintain a monopoly in the MMO market by 'doing it first' or whatever. They literally have teams that go into their betas just to test out the competition and take what they find to attempt and improve their own games.
I'm sick and tired of these leeches killing off the MMO genre. WoW has been dying forever now. It's dead now. There is nothing that's going to bring people back. It's played out and it's shown it really can't innovate. Raids are unimaginative and unappealing. Max level gameplay that had you FORCED into playing it EXACTLY HOW BLIZZARD WANTED YOU TO PLAY IT.
It's far too late to release a "Burning Crusade, PART TWO!" expansion. Like hell I want to be ruled by Dailies as the only means to get anywhere in this fucking game. (pardon my language) This is just no. People need to JUST. SAY. NO!
Get out of your comfort zone people, pick up something new! The newbies and casuals can stick with it if they want. But this game is a husk of its former self. It's literally giving you nothing while you're forced to give EVERYTHING.
Loot inflation has gone through the roof. Raid lockouts and a Guild system that punishes you for forming pugs with other people outside your own guild. Forget about leveling alts, you won't be allowed to gear them with the views they have for this game.
Instant level to 90? You dumb shits. Why not make free server transfers then for that matter. How many characters are you limited to granting this "instant 90"? Does it come with "instant i625" gear? No? Whatever. Too little too late. I'm supporting the new guy in town. The ones who are COMING UP WITH FRESH IDEAS YOU STEAL AND SOMEHOW GET TO CALL YOURSELVES INNOVATIVE!?
P.S. Anyone who has a problem with my expression my displeasure for this game in this much detail can join them.
WoW represent almost everything wrong with MMORPGs. yet its the most popular. I guess that means WoW represents everything wrong with gamers
Draenor...the very final piece of lore that hadn't been mangled by the teeth of inconsistency.
Oh wait...Do the Draenei count? Then never mind...
Every time a new expansion since Cataclysm came out, I jumped back in and leveled my mage to the level cap and then went AFK. This time will be no exception I think. The new character models look great.
Sad trailer is sad. Does anyone pay for this outdated game? I mean there are alot of free mmorpgs that look way better. And for oldies, lineage 2 is free
@heresjonny99 Well maybe we won't see those days again, but as far as I am concerned, they are working on HD versions of Wc1, 2 and 3. But it's not the continuation of the lore. That sadly stays with WoW.
@Arcius_Azrael Millions and millions of players enjoyed WOW. That's all you need to know.
@GIF real life catched you too eh? same this side
@souther_hill What were Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and the upcoming Legacy of the Void then?
It sounds to me like you just have a preferred franchise and are frustrated blizzard isn't giving your favorite child "enough attention".
@mr_nee Well if you know anyone who is still playing WoW, and if you bought WOLTK you can get a SOR, which gives you 7 days free game time and Cata for free. I did that awhile back just to check things out but never subscribed again. Though I am interested in this exp pack for the lore.
@mr_nee Each expac lately they've been drastically reducing the price of previous expansions around the time of release. As of right now, everything up to and including cataclysm is bundled for $20 (not sure what the cost in europe would be- prob 20 euro?). Pandaland is $40, but will likely drop to $20 when Warlords drops. So you're looking at... oh yeah, $80 :/ lets hope they bundle it up more/have sales :(
@telaros lol. no.
@telaros if it is dead then what are you worrying about "ripping other MMOs"? people will play games they enjoy you can turn it around any way you want ,but in the end, the MMOs that fail and die are failing because they don't offer what people were expecting from them and not because WoW ripped them off. Nobody is FORCING people to play lol, if it sucks=people leave, if they enjoy then they stay, simple.
@grove12345 Examples? And unless I'm misreading your point/intention, there is an inherent contradiction in your statement.
What's "wrong with [games]" is the conception that there is a "standard" that games within genres must meet according to the genre it has been assigned -- that there can be things "wrong" with games. That kind of close-minded thinking gives us stale games. Is WoW perfect? Hell no. Blizzard has gone from being a golden boy to a whipping boy (not a perfect metaphor but hopefully you'll get my point) in just a matter of a few years (Diablo 3 anyone?)
Games should be judged on their own merit. I believe when a studio sets out to make a game, an ideal mindset isn't "lets make an awesome rpg/shooter/etc." It should be more "lets make an awesome game. Oh, and it might have these elements."
What I'm trying to say is that the industry lets itself and it's games not only be "defined", but built around those definitions.
As a last point as this post is already too long, I do agree with the latter sentiment expressed in your post. There is something wrong with gamers. It's that we've come to have certain standards and preconceptions and we judge games based upon those rather than the game's own merit.
WoW is very old. I played on and off since several months after release, and during that time there have been times when I rolled my eyes and times that I cheered blizzard on.
I, personally, am looking forward to this game, despite the fact that I've barely played during Mists, because ultimately, WoW is a game I enjoy more than any other MMO I have played to date. That says something to me.
Well....for starters. Its only ONE character you get. Not multiple. You are capped at 90 and have to grind the last 10 levels, which will still take a while to do anyway.
Also. I think its good for Veterans like me, who don't have a whole lot of time to grind a guy from 1-100 to play end game content. Now I can switch between my lvl 100 Rouge and my lvl 100 Warrior whenever I need to and make things easier on dungeon runs and raids.
All new race models and art make it feel, to me, like I'm getting 8 new races. Personally, I'd rather have that, the new world they're building ground up (Draenor), UI improvements, the more dynamic questing systems, and the Garrison feature.
This has me far, far more excited than Monks, Pandas, Draenei, Blood Elves, Worgen, or Goblins ever had me.
The only exception is Death Knights... Lore legendary-ness right there.
Oh, and btw, there is still a possibility/speculation of new classes/races, despite it not being announced at BlizzCon. When asked about it the devs said there were no new "hero" classes coming. That choice of wording has people buzzing.
I would personally prefer they devote resources to existing problems and QoL overhauls, but there's a bone for ya :)
@JIMDOG444 Still over 7 million subs. Nowhere near it's high of 12 million, but still more than any other MMO out there.
As long as it's profitable, blizz'll kick out content for it :)
@zoeyleft This is just announcement trailer, same as it was for Wotlk and Cata, the CG Cinematic will come soon.
@luciann And yet, after trying many, many other MMOs, I always find myself coming back to WoW as my MMO of choice... Guess people are going to play what they find to be the most fun over what looks pretty.
There's a lot to be said for a 9 year old game with over 7 million subs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for beautiful games (Shadow of the Colossus was GORGEOUS in its time). But MMO's are different for me.
@luciann 'That look way better"
I forgot, graphics are the defining characteristic of games. ESPECIALLY MMOs.
@luciann Many free mmorpgs that are complete crap yes
@fredyellowone @Arcius_Azrael yea from 12mil to 6.5-7 and numbers keeps getting lower and lower,NOT to mention that these numbers half of them if not more are from china
so like u said earlier "thats all you need to know"
@frylock1987 @vadagar1 Knew there was a catch 22 in there. I guess their Character Transfer money bank is safe then. Give a puppy a bone and they think you're the greatest master a pup could have. This gives zero incentive for anyone with a slew of 90's from bothering. Endgame is going to be trash as usual anyways.
@Azraelnone Honestly I was just posting that for giggles but the in-depth, informative reply is appreciated.
@Albaficas Well what do you expect ? The game is old, it's a true feat of strength (or marketing) that Blizzard has kept that large of a user base after so many years of activity. I never liked WoW, or most MMOs for that matter, but you can't deny that it's one of the most successful video games in history.
@Albaficas This is the most profitable video game in history; you could pretty much put all games in the past decade on the same chart and WoW will still have a higher profit margin (obviously exaggerated, but at the same time it's true if you add in a couple exceptions). They'll always be chasing that cookie, and even if it dropped to 500,000 players they'd still be making significant profit (especially with their new merging technology with cross realms and connected realms).
Honestly, that's all we need to know as to why they will keep on making more and more for it. While this expansion looks amazing after listening to the panel, it still has a lot of development time left to say it's good or bad. Though I think the one thing many agree on is that a Warcraft IV is long overdue. WoW is at a steady 7.6 million at the moment with a minor loss last call in. So it will likely go down a bit more before having that expansion boost for a few months. Then inevitable go back to declining until the next expansion.
I know and dealt enough with this game then I care to admit. I'm not a fan of LFR, 10 mans being equal in terms of 25 mans, which are now seeing a further decrease to 20 with 'mythic' level so good buy to those 5 slackers in the guild you been likely wanting to axe anyways, and trying to mask stuff to look and feel like you're going to get a great deal.
Yes, yes I have checked out what they're planning for the next expansion. More than half of that they've been promising and in the talks for the past few years now, and most of the new models won't even be available at launch. Those cosmetic changes are only being done NOW because of all the money they used up to break off from that leech of a company Vivindi.
Comments like MINE is what gets companies off their ass to deliver the stuff we KNOW is wrong. Most of the issues that Pandaria had would not be an issue had they listened to us during BETA. They ignored those reports on bugs, they let the broken abilities last for months, they have an even greater discrepancy in DPS ability on hybrids that are causing people to replace those classes with other more reliable classes with better mobility. Yet, Ghost Crawler says he "likes it that way".
I have helped fight for Druid rights and others over the years, and when you get people talking, civilly, and yes before you get all snide I *am* rather civil. Companies like Blizzard have stopped and listened to us when it serves them, many times it takes some very creative players to create videos and prove their points to the public and Blizzard who 'coincidentally' release patches within the next 48 hours within that information being brought up to them or a simple hotfix to stop abuse.
PVP has suffered a lot, but they finally began doing something right. They DO try. But it's the ones who speak up about the issues they find with the game that get heard.
I am rather cross with Blizzard. They broke my guild, my home, apart with all their changes. 25 man guilds, Hard Mode progression guilds that CARE about progression and having a good time farming the achievements are a RARITY on WoW. Even the top most famous guild who even joined with another to try and stave a disbanding, have quit the game with the lack of innovation and challenge that blizzard halfheartedly threw at us in Pandaria.
You. Don't, Know. Blizzard. Or at least haven't played day one content and had fully geared and mastered alts and 4 sets of gear on your main ready, socketed, enchanted, flasked and well fed, and ABLE to fill whatever role we need to run two 25 man groups to learn and conquer the raid to open up hard modes for the next week.
Pandaria was not like past games. And I used to LOVE doing BC dailies and even Wrath ones, those were still OPTIONAL, and farming in Wrath and Cata was FUN. Druid Flight Form ftw. But Pandaria was not. It gave me a false sense of being able to experience something NEW. But, as I dinged 90. A harsh realization hit me.
I was now playing Blizzard to let me work cotton fields for little to nothing a week. Punishing anyone who fails to max out the reputations and gating factions in such a disgusting way. They had such little offerings to actually give you that they had to POLICE the way you get to enjoy the game.
Police you, you say? Yes, they enforced a hardline play it everyday mantra and gated bosses just so you wouldn't beat what little they actually bothered to throw at you. They refused to allow you to play 10 and 25's without locking you out to bosses you've beaten.
To say everything that was wrong with Pandaria for the first 6 months of the game, would take more time than I imagine you'd care to know. And yes, I'm still typing all this assuming you won't even bother reading most of this. I don't care, I like to type. I don't like keeping my mouth shut when people attempt to screw me over. Pandaria was the first expansion in the series that had me HATE raiding, and that's not even anything to do with anything else, I mean the RAIDS THEMSELVES were shit. So shit I would literally NEVER, not even on hardmode, move more than 2 steps during one of the bosses who summons a legion who come at you in a line twirling their weapons to run you down. I simply timed their melee swings and moved THROUGH them while never once really losing a spell cast because it lined up so well with refreshing my dots or a nice starsurge
Game. Was gimmicky. Used many recycled mechanics that were taken and mixed with others. Didn't get remotely decent even after that. I love playing multiple classes, I would raid with different guilds, smaller ones that had trouble getting started or just wanted to do casual 10's on weekends. I just loved to raid and gear alts. Something that proved damn near impossible for a long time and would increasingly become more tedious with the nerf to PVP gear for PVE. Blizzard really couldn't make up its mind.
Final thought: Why did you bother replying if you hate my outspokenness? Blizzard doesn't deserve any pity. They can't fix what they have now broken. Releasing a Burning Crusade 2(!) is NOT going to win us back, so at the very least YOU won't have to ever worry about me going into a 5 man hard mode in 97 greens and a few blues and out healing your LFR geared healers or doing that thing that once seperated wannabe tanks from people like me who actually WAS aware of my surroundings and the actions of my fellow raiders.
Today's WoW isn't designed for its long time fans. Pandaria was the nail in the coffin for many. Offering ONE free instant 90 *PER* account? What good is THAT gonna do? That screams casuals or people hoping to start fresh on a new server from scratch.
Too many servers, not enough people to balance the core problems.
And that's all I'll say on this. I have far too many productive options these days to afford to invest time in MMOs. That game ruins lives anyways.
@telaros @frylock1987 @vadagar1 You've already displayed the cynical attitude that is the plague and bane of modern gamers, so I'm not sure why I'm bothering with a response... Oh well.
But great job(!) judging a game before you've even played it. It's attitudes like the one you're displaying in your comment that are the reason companies have to pour a disproportionate amount of money into marketing to keep their game afloat rather than spending that on development.
Have you even read what they have planned?
