Why You Should Buy a 3DS in 2014
Nintendo's handheld juggernaut is just getting warmed up and has a killer year ahead of it. Is it time to get one if you haven't already?

I'm an avid handheld gamer and have had my fair share of DS, PSP, 3DS and PSVita. I can say for sure that I fully enjoyed both DS and PSP. DS was for my casual gaming while the PSP was for more hardcore RPG stuff. I do slightly favor the PSP for the hombrew part and being able to play old NES, SNES, GBA, Megadrive and PSX games on it.
With the current gen of handhelds I still find the 3DS a little on the kiddy side of things. It has great games of course and they are pretty hardcore but the way the games are presented are quite light hearted. Zelda, Bravely Default and Fire Emblem Awakening are great games and I will invest in those games (I'm kinda broke on games right now), I currently don't own any 3DS games. On the other had my PSVita has quite a few games, I find it has a wider variety of games but it is also for older people. I quite enjoy Persona 4, Dragons Crown and a bunch of indies that I own. I find the PSVita more appealing cause of the ports from previous generations and a lot of indie stuff, it is more for older and hardcore gamers like myself. It also has a large amount of kickstarter games coming as well.
I still prefer my PSVita over the 3DS because it just has over all better hardware and games that appeal to me. This is just my opinion of course so no need to get all angry. Everyone has their own opinion and owning any of these two handhelds you should and will still be a winner. Great games on both platforms.
If there only would be "western" games on it... :/
I hate all that manga, anime and kids style stuff...
I bought one and ended up selling it, only because handheld gaming isn't for me. I will say for the record that it literally blew me away, the 3D is amazing!
It's a great system just make sure before you buy either this or Vita that you ask and quiz yourself to whether mobile gaming is for you.
i agree that the 3ds is a must have console that is if you have the money for all the games, if you're like me and you already cleared out your wallet for a ps4 (i also have a 3ds) and cannot afford to buy games for the 3ds then you in a predicament. this is the thing about the handheld for a poorer person its not the best choice as playing streetpass games can get mighty boring especially if you have many lvl 7 friends just pop round to there house and you can finish adventure quest twice with 7 7+ people. my recommendation to the people like me who have a ps3 ps4 with a years worth of psn+ is to get a vita. it may sound like im sounding like a fanboy here but due to my budget retraits its a better choice. i know in the short term that the 3ds would be more fun if you can keep getting a new game per month/2 months, but i know if i had bought a vita i know there would be at least 1 game to 3 games per month that i know i can play for free. its really just a matter of who you are if you have a health bank account i wouldn't say no to a 3ds, you will have fun and it will be worth it but if you strapped for cash with a year of psn+ then overall get a vita. i wish i did my 3ds is just pokemon y and link which loses its fun over time.
3ds was my primary gaming system in 2013. It has a fantastic range of game covering many different genres. I worked out today I own 77 3ds games not counting compatible ds games. The only system I own more games on is PC.
I've got a 3DSXL and a Vita. In my opinion the Vita is better in nearly every way, and worth the extra cost.
@LordCrash88 if you are interested in MGS then you can get MGS3 3D its pretty cheap
@LordCrash88 Whats wrong with fire emblem its made by the advance war guys and apparently has killer game play, the new zelda is great, animal crossing is kiddie but anime, what about mariokart? or the entire library of DS titles? You have Geralt as your avatar so I assume you are a witcher fan having been a fan of the witcher since game 1 Im sure if these titles can entertain me they can entertain you
@Sharkspawn80 Both. Nintendo and Sony are complementary companies.
@neowarrior121 Nintendo should add a subscription service as well. PSN+ is great value and if i had a playstaion 4 it would make the vita far more tempting to me. Though I'd always want at least one Nintendo console because I like their games.
I have a good number of 3ds games but many are old games I found on sale cheap online or low priced eshop games and eshop special offers. Still the expensive first party games alone have taken a huge amount of cash from me.
As it stands, investing in a collection 3ds games was a good move for me. I'm working abroad this year and only taking my 3ds and luckily I've got plenty to play.
@jmartin1016 Not for you, you are the HARDCORE BIG DICKED (no offence) gamer. Not the gamer that just sits down, and relaxes.
@jmartin1016 I have both too, and 3DS is better imo :D We got a problem here.
Just... stop trying to sell the Vita to people, it's turning ridiculous now. People will buy one eventually, it's a great li'l system and they just need to understand that, but no need to try to make them think the 3DS is worse when it's obviously not and has a lot of great games to offer.
