They could learn the Skyrim style and get the game in a similar style...would be a great game...but there is no Viking game at the moment...at least a good one...
I made an account just to address the god damn neanderthals in the comments. This is not a ripoff of Chivalry. This is the sequel to War of The Roses which came out weeks before Chivalry Medieval Warfare. Both games were being developed at around the same time though. Mount and Blade is the god father of this combat/gameplay style so shut the hell up and do research before spewing idiocy all over the comments. Chivalry is not the innovator like some people seem to think...
Also, in regards to people complaining about the combat system being too hard...is the concept of practice completely beyond your comprehension? This combat system has been around for years and works perfectly. It is purely dependent on player skill. Yes the learning curve is very steep but practice is all that is needed. AND IT WORKS
The directional swings are nice.. a la Warband.. but we already have warband. I love anything vikings.. but I played the alpha and it really comes up short. War of the Roses to Vikings could use a deeper combat. Counterattacks, riposte, parries, would be nice.. not just block and swing. Combat in these types of games could be a lot deeper.
Multiplayer? Bleh! I was waiting for a kickass single-player campaign in viking universe. This multiplayer trend in games is annoying.
The Berserker was the embodiement of European pagan warfaring, yet they don't include this class in any western viking oriented game i have seen.
I enjoyed the more tactical style combat in War of the Roses... this combat seems to be a bit faster and slightly dumbed down to appeal to the Chiv fans i guess.. still again its good fun for a blast now and then :)
Saying that I think i will find myself playing war of the roses instead of this..
As a Mount&Blade veteran and War of the Roses hater, I must say, this game is a bunch of fun to play, not alone, but just get one friend or two and you'll have hours of entertainment. The combat system might not be as precise as MB but it's a lot more interesting.
People calling this game is "HARD" or same for War of the Roses. Please throw your computers away from window. From high apartment if possible.
On the other hand im glad i wont be playing againts you noobs. That could take away all the fun / comptetition.
And people saying "Chivalry" is better ; got phrase for you "You Know Nothing Jon Snow"....
Probably calling this game bad are the people who cant get into alpha.
War of the Vikings ( alpha stage ) > Chivalry > War of the Roses
Mount & Blade is nothing like these games. Mount & Blade is more like an arcade.
If only, somehow, it looked appealing. It looks like a game that asks you to forgive a lot of things right off the bat.
its EXACTLY like War of the Roses as I think it was made by the same people. Also they need Australian servers as I get ping kicked if I try to play -.-
GEE-ne-REEK. If this isn't F2P, or $14.99-$19.99... it's a skip. Keep playing Chivalry or Mount & Blade.
I think that this combat system would fit better with a controller than a m&k. Maybe they should move this game on consoles.
War of the Roses is borderline unplayable with regard to gameplay. This is just the same game with a different time period. Paradox is having a total Call of Duty moment right now...
Just because "you're never supposed to run (away)", by the developers, shouldn't make it impossible to outrun others! I mean c'mon!! I want options to make personal choices, not being forced into limitations! Why not include a speed statistic that can be upgraded or something?
@Firelo The first thing he does is explain why there are 3 classes! It's an Alpha and they want to get the basic feeling amongst these styles. I expect they will add more in between.
Anyway, this game looks almost exactly like Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. I'm not sure whats new there.
I'm still waiting for a Viking game... with a great single-player campaign and super-fun multiplayer. One can dream.
@arqe M7B is more like an arcade? waht do you mean by that?
@senjutsu you would be wrong.
@icer67 I agree. I was sooo excited for War of the Roses and when I finally got it, the combat system was so difficult that it just killed the game for me.
@CoolMB101 combat system is a lot different compared to War of the Roses.. it feels more dumbed down and thats a bit of a shame as that was one of the main thing war of the roses had gonig for it.. Tho I think this will appeal to people who like something a bit easier to get into..
@sodiumpentathol Running away has always been a legitimate strategy and component of combat, whether to retreat, regroup or just reset. It should be an option; unless you're an Uruk-hai.
@NinjaGaz Maybe "right now" was a poor choice of words."At the moment" would be more like it.
@Caldrin @CoolMB101 Ah I see...but still, I think they need to seriously change their entire swinging and blocking system, because some of that shit is ridiculous. While I do like the ideas of having certain swing types deal certain types of damage, the whole point-damage system ruins the fluidity of the game for me. Mount and Blade manages to have differing damage without the ugly point pop-ups, so it makes it seem more realistic, instead of having a runescape-like point system.
@CoolMB101 yeah I think they added in the hit location pointers to make it easier for people.. still I agree its one thing that could be removed form the game..
