9.5? I miss the Gamespot I used to relly on 7 years ago.
I used to buy my games according to the review scores, but now, I just can't get it...
The scores should me more detailed, so we can understand the editor's point of view...
Ea, the plot must be really spooky; spooky as all the eye diseases I will get if I play it for a while.
Tearing festival... ♪
9.5? are you joking? I finished this in 2hours 10 min, ok game but for 20$ there are much better games.
Sounds interesting and I'm sure the story is great, but what is this game about? What do you actually do? Walk around house for hours? Why? The review doesn't seem to explain much if any of that.
Wow, Petit must be awfully thin-skinned.
Notice comments are wiped out that question Petit's ridiculous score?
If this game is a 9.5, then L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain should be 10s. Caroline, why you rated this game 9.5 is questionable, and the bias is kinda obvious if one realizes the plot and theme of the story.
I played this game, and I honestly don't find what's so fascinating about it. I also find it intriguing and obvious as to why this makes such an emotional connection to some rather than others. It takes a pretty mature mind to take it all in, but I believe Caroline definitely overrated this game, better games with much more attention to detail have been rated 8.5 or less, while this 2 hr game gets a 9.5 because someone doesn't know the criteria that makes a game valuable. Is it a 9.5? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Is it a good game, definitely. I'm disappointed at GS.
Seriously, one of my favorite games of all time. Just finished it and I was utterly captivated throughout.
Wow, just read a lot of the comments. So many stupid little children on here complaining that it's boring or they isn't any combat. Why would you even CONSIDER looking into a game like this, watching the review, or buying it? I don't get how someone buys a game that's clear about what it is, and yet then act surprised when they don't get a god damn machine gun or magic spells. "Oh it was so disappointing! So boring!" Sorry kids, but an engaging, well-paced, emotional mystery story might be above you. Hopefully in a few years you'll develop the capacity to enjoy something real, thought-provoking, honest, and interesting. Until then, enjoy being racist on the mic in CoD.
Oh, and if you haven't played Journey on the PSN, DON'T. You'll think it's, "stuuupid and booooring and stuff."
Holy crap the mom in the last picture of the video looks like a monster about to eat the kids hahahaha
C'mon seriously ? 9.5 this? I mean don't doubt is a great game, but 9.5 for a 2 hour game? This means either this game "is the shit of the shits" or is just very overrated because is an emotional game
This game was EXTREMELY disappointing, the story is just dumb, and this type of game is all about story. I don't care for gameplay, i don't care for enemies or puzzles, i LOVE a good -story only- game (To the Moon being one of my favorite games of all time) But the story of "Gone Home" is flat, the ending is terrible and inconsequential. You don't care what happens to this stupid sister of yours, I was expecting a great shocking revelation or something and what we got at the end is just DUMB. DON'T BUY THIS.
The stupidity of some of the people commenting on here saying it's stupid because you walk around in an empty house (they obviously do not know the definition of empty) do not grasp the essence nor the meaning of a game. Games are used as a MEDIUM. Games DON'T require you to run about with a gun and kill people all the time.
I don't understand you people, if they were paid to give a certain review this wouldn't top games like call of duty or even the last of us because those are made by big budget companies. These video reviews are more the opinion of one person more than it is a company. If you want a different perspective then read or watch a different review.
ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......this is SO boring. I didn't have this feeling in a long time. At least now I know to keep the hell away from this game.
TES: Skyrim got a 9.0 and this piece of 'ya know' game gets a 9.5? Seriously, someone develop a website that's exactly like Gamespot but give real review scores and not scores you are probably paid to give. Chances are you could easily put gamespot out of business in no time flat. This website has the most idiotic score comparisons I have ever seen. It's literally the worst scoring system in existence, I am sure of it.
Comparing this game to other big game titles is like comparing a short movie to LOTR movie trilogy, or comparing a oneshot manga to Dragon Ball Z. if the short, little one has a strong, lovely story, execution and message, then it is good. But will it get the same kind of box office or recognition from the public? Unlikely. It's like that.
I don't understand why ratings matter so much to people... Play the game, or don't. Rate them yourselves if you must.
@dragon_masterex Mr. Petit didn't use V-Sync.
@barradorx2099 Why is that?
@vishisluv7 Actually, I feel like they relaxed way too much on their conduct policy awhile back and now assholes are running amuck in the comment sections all over the site. Besides, I've seen plenty of comments that call her out on the 9.5 score.
@Quarkzquarkz It is NOT worth the whole $20, there are games with far better production values and attention to detail. It has virtually no replay value, and even though the story is emotional and the sense of exploration is exciting at first, it's just a simple detective game where you're interacting with your surroundings and the people who live there. At best it is worth half that price, for only 2 hours of entertainment. That's rating number is incredibly deceptive.
@luciann I just played the whole thing last night. I was looking for something quick to play before bed cuz it was getting late. I turned off the lights, put on headphones and started the game. I didn't check the time once, had an amazing time playing it and then realized the sun was up. The house feels real, the items are all interesting and really do give you insight into the characters. The pacing of how you move through the house and how each piece of the story is delivered is done perfectly. It really was an excellent game and really keeps you guessing the whole time. The only way you can be disappointed with the story of this game is if you have no soul or if you were expecting something very different, but that's your own fault if you didn't find out what kind of game it was first. It definitely deserves the score.
@alecrast82 To the moon deservers a bigger score than this imo
Who said anything about a gun or killing anyone? Game are also supposed to be longer than 2 hours and require more of its audience than merely going from point A to point B.
Regardless of how you define a game, to give this a 9.5 is where the stupidity lies. There are far more deeper and engaging experiences that have gotten far less scores than this "MEDIUM".
@remiaw You realize you sound as stupid as someone going into a Skyrim review and saying, "no guns to fire, no jets to pilot, no soldiers to kill, sounds boring."
Or going into a GTA review and saying, "No dragons, no magic spells, no orcs, sounds boring."
@remiaw No, sounds interesting, since it skips all the standard stuff. I don't need always the same scheme. I gonna give it a try.
@Matchews You do realize that the score reflects the quality of the game within its genre right? If I made a black and white, 2D puzzle game and it was the best puzzle game ever made in the history of puzzle games and they gave it a 9.5, would you complain that I was paid because Skyrim didn't get a 10? You sound like an angry fool. Who said you were supposed to compare scores of games that aren't anywhere near similar to each other?
@Cryptic_Shadow I agree with you, but then why do we even bother to come to this site if we can't trust the rating? At least at some level?
@saadomar90 @Quarkzquarkz If I were to go see a 2 hour movie it would cost me and my girlfriend $13.50 each for the tickets, and then if we want to share a drink or a snack it'll probably add another $10, so you're not looking at almost $40 with the tax. So Gone Home is $20 and you can beat it in a couple of hours and it's more of an interactive story than a real game. The way I look at it, you're getting to interact with the story and find things out for yourself and you can go at your own pace, pause whenever you want, and play it again if you want, all for less money.
As far as deception goes, I think you're making it more complicated than it really is. As far as a short, indie game goes where it's more of an interactive story, how does it rank among those? I'd say this is one of the best ones ever, and because of that, the score is completely valid.
@Double_Wide @DiamondSlicer Where in the rules does it say games have to be longer than 2 hours? Where does it say that investigating a mysterious situation in a big house isn't enough for the audience? Also, it took me longer because I really wanted to find out more about the characters and read everything I could find. I NEVER want to do that in games and usually skip all that nonsense, but this is actually written well and draws you in. I guess you must also think Journey was a terrible disappointment. Stop repressing all the feels and enjoy something emotional.
@pinicolaroxa A here shows someone the second face! You must be pathetic...
Transexual not lesbian...
@pinicolaroxaWe have a bloody homophobe here.
Ratings are relative, and I'm sure when a 9.5 was given to this game the reviewer didn't have Skyrim or any other big budget game in mind, but rather other similar games.
@eramires So if you don't agree with the review then it's inaccurate and you can't trust their scores? Maybe it's not your kind of game. It doesn't mean the site is garbage and they don't know what they're talking about if you don't agree with the score.
@iBuSHiDo @eramires @Cryptic_Shadow i played it too, congrats if you agree, but i don't.
Yes it is explained perfectly. I am not confused, are you? i think you are not understanding what i have said, i think you are confused.
