Video Game History Month: Zelda
Video Game History Month takes a look at a classic series: The Legend of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda is... god. The series is just SO GOOD. In more recent times I've found myself being more critical of the series. Twilight Princess felt a little trapped in the past, Phantom Hourglass was repetitive and Skyward Sword missed the mark as much as it hit it. But man, the sheer quality of the series as a whole, from start to finish, is just unmatched as far as I'm concerned. The original, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, the Oracle duo, The Wind Waker. It's unbelievable that one series can have this many truly fantastic games. I have to agree with Tom McShea, the original, A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are just outright some of the best games ever made. If I had to point to any one game, that at the time of its release was as perfect as it could possibly be, I'd point to Ocarina of Time. I still get emotional thinking about playing the game for the very first time. A Link to the Past just blew my mind. The Wind Waker still gives me chills. Link's Awakening is still the unsurpassed king of portable gaming.
The greatest video game series of all time. Without question as far as I'm concerned. The series made me a gamer, developed my passion for gaming. I can't praise it enough.
Nealkoke if you have a wii then buy the gamecube game zelda ocarina of time collectors addition you will get ocarina and majoras mask in one game.
My first Zelda experience was the origional for NES. i still own the game but dont remember ever completeing the game. i put countless hours into the game and loved it so much. i was probably around 8 years old at the time. so the game ment alot to me. and i still have a soft spot for it. i think i got stuck somewhere in level 8. and stoped trying when we finally got a snes and i got into super metroid. my next zelda experience was on the gameboy. links awakening was fantastic.. definetly a under rated game. the game world is still large and there is alot to do. my next experience was on the N64. i played Ocarina of time for quite awhile. i have played completely through the game atleast 4 times. and still love the game. i never got into majora's mask. it felt like such a different game than ocarina of time. and didnt really suck me into it like ocarina if time of time did. i have not bought a gamecube and have not played the zelda games after oot. however im getting twilight princess now and im going to give it a try.
Haha look at ryan suffering from the lack of words that could describe the amazing game that is Ocarina of Time! XD
When I was 6 years old my parents bought me SNES, mario bros. and The Legend of Zelda for Christmas. playing zelda made me realize that videogames were more than just a game to play with, they are surreal experiences in which the gamer becomes sucked into the world of the protagonist (link) and everything you do such as completing a dungeon and ultimately saving the world makes you feel like a hero in some respects. The experience was so magical that I have played videogames to this day. Throughout gradeschool and middle school I played ps and ps2 and then xbox 360 in high school. I am 19 now and i recently purchased a wii, I bought twilight princess and I just completed the snow temple. So far I must say that the developers have done a great job! The dungeons have interesting puzzles, the boss fights are nothing short of epic, and the art design is phenomenal. I do not understand why some people hate on this game, It just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, Once I beat Twilight I plan on playing all the zelda games I never got a chance to: Windwaker, Ocarina, and Majora. Here is my question for anyone who wishes to respond, Which one should I play first?! I have heard great things about all of them especially ocarina. Thank you in advance for any feedback
I had good memories of Link's Awakening. Probably the worst graphics of any, but it was the first non-Hyrule adventure and probably the best game for the Game Boy, but nobody on the video cared...so sad. At least they showed the intro, it's the best intro of any of 'em.
Maybe it's just because I spent so much more time playing it due to its difficulty, but Majora's Mask is definitely the game that sits freshest in my memory. In light of most of the other games, Majora's Mask added depth and difficulty where it lacked from the broad and epic qualities of the other, more free roaming games. Twilight Princess ages remarkably well; it's an upgraded version of Ocarina of Time, but the graphics, fluidity and purity of the scheme help it remain playable today. Link to the Past is every bit as accessible today as it was when it first came out; you're not hindered by the blocky graphics that have sort of dated Ocarina and Majora, it's fluid and plays exceptionally well. I don't even know where I'm going with this, except that this franchise is unlike any other.
A Link to the Past is IMO the best in the entire series. For starters it has the best story. So many RPGs have tried to copy the story in some way or another. Next, it was the pinnacle of the then current trilogy. Finaly, it's successor Ocarina of Time did not outdo it's predecessor. Instead it did an awesome job of transitioning the concept of the already perfected Zelda formula and integrate it in to 3d.
Anyone knows when is the new zelda game coming up. Getting excited about it after getting my zelda shield and sword combo from: http://www.swordsaxe.com
For me, Zelda is the best franchise of videogaming. My favorite was Windwaker because of the stylish cartoon graphics, the adventure was soo huge, bosses music was awesome... Ive played all Zeldas since the first one. My only deception was Zelda 2 (nes) this game was crap... boy I was disapointed!!!!
I was a kid when the first Zelda was released and have played every single one of them ever since. I'd have to say that graphics aside, the first Zelda was the source of every major conversation in Jr. High, and the source of many sleepless nights; also, IMO, Zelda 3 is probably one of the best of the series and many of the standard gameplay elements of the later games are direct descendants of similar elements from that one.
Is it just me or did Ryan Mac Donald not really have a linear thought this whole video. I didn't understand what he was saying, and the little that I did I just didn't really find insightful or indicative of him ever even playing some of these.
twilight princess was the best b4 you say ocarina of time was i haven't beaten that one yet but i am working on that but for now i don't think anything can top twilight princess
they act like Twilight Rehash was better than Majora's Mask. Are they out of their minds? Majora's Mask was the PERFECT example of thinking outside of the box, something which draws on the best of the past yet adds something completely new and different, something not a single Zelda game subsequent came close to achieving. Twilight Princess was god awful.
Old Man:It's dangerous to go alone!Take this. Link:But I don't know how to use it! Old Man:I DON'T CARE,JUST TAKE IT! Link:Ok
Thats amazing that he got the idea from playing in the woods you never see a game created out of stuff like that mybe more game creaters should do games based of their childhood.
I love the Zelda series! My first was the Link to the Past/Four Swords GBA game, and I hated it, but got back in from Phantom Hourglass, and am playing a lot of the games now. Go Link!
i now exactly what you guys are talking about i beat ocarina of time and link to the past they are very cool!
My first game ever was zelda links awakening it was the best thing ever! I still remember going to my cousins house to play it on his game boy sp
@GamerDude_53 Trust me, if you play Majora's Mask you definitely will be happy with it. It was great.
I had the Adventures of Link for the Gameboy and played it like crazy! It was actually a GBColor game but I only had the Original Gameboy w/o colors but I still played it. Good times.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was my first Zelda game, I still own it and play it, it is such a great game, and is the best game made, in my opinion. I want to play Majora's Mask.
I am soo close to beating wind waker which was my first zelda game but when I got Ocarina of time... Best Game Ever!
I just started playing Ocarina of Time for the first time, and it completely blew me away. That says something about how great it is.
The Best Zelda Was Majora's Mask And Ocarina Of Time. Zelda The Greatest Game Series In The World!!=D
