Unboxing the Amazon Fire TV and controller
Danny and Shaun open up the Amazon Fire TV and give their first hands-on impressions of the streaming device and its controller.
Oh Danny. What a rascally scamp. On topic...Fire TV is not for me. Probably not for many. It will serve its purpose though. The fact that Telltale will be developing for the platform lends it a little cred. I bet Apple TV next will be much of the same.
I like it, when it comes to the UK I'll probably pick one up. Granted, it's obviously not a 'console' competitor but it should see some great support from indies given Amazon's massive reach, every unit being a devkit and a freely available SDK. I'm sure it'll get lots of shovelware too but at $140 (or even just $100 if you already have a controller) it won't take many games to make me feel it was worth the price of admission.
Also XBMC, Plex, Limeilght and emulators are all dead certs to get ported to it.
Edit: Also that Adam Sessler shirt is amazing Danny.
Good video, want to know more about it (Amazon fanboy here). Will be interested in seeing GameSpot putting it through the paces, give us a review of it's usefulness to consumers.
I really don't understand who would buy this. If you have a console it makes no sense. Maybe if you didn't own a console? But there are so many smart tvs with netflix apps built in.
nice Adam Sessler shirt, could we get some game performance comparison to the Ouya 2, really curious which one performs better
i already have a roku, 2 to be exact, and a ps4 so that covers everything i need. they will sell a few but i dont see this taking off since the market is saturated with devices that boast the same features
@WhiteTulip1 the people that would buy this are the same that would buy a Roku or Apple TV and compared to those this is very competitive. Chromecast is cheaper but more limited. If you are in the market for a streaming device anyway, and also enjoy some casual games (which many people do) then this device appears to be a great choice. Remember it's only $99 w/out controller. Why not get a device that at least has some gaming ability built in? It's not meant to compete with a full gaming console.
@WhiteTulip1 I don't have cable. I have multiple rooms in my house. all use some sort of streaming device. I have roku in my daughter's room and my guest room. All my serious gaming hardware is in the basement. This will be nice if the interface is much faster than roku then i will replace those. I already have prime too.
Also my dad has a roku. like i said, if it's faster, this can replace it. This device isn't really aimed at gamers, but for people who bought things like the Wii I think
@WhiteTulip1 No idea either. If you want Netflix and etc. buy a Chromecast or use your many other systems with apps, if you want games you ain't buying this. Odd how they seem unwilling to say the controller is crap when the controller is clearly crap.
@Slim_Lyrics because he just retired from his show dude
@fatee Good riddance. Hope more like him will leave the industry so we can get good games again.
@fatee Missed? You mean Adam Sessler who I watch every week? You know something I don't know?
Edit: OMG I JUST READ ABOUT IT. NOOOOOOOOO
@fatee I spent the first 30 seconds of the video looking at his shirt :/
