I'm glad Diablo III flopped. Of coarse it did. The people who made Diablo 1 and 2 great are the ones who made Torchlight. I've never seen so many bad reviews on amazon.com for a blizzard release. Least I didn't buy that garbage. Blizzard really did some evil shit on D3. They committed so many taboo's in the industry. No offline play, no LAN, microtransactions on a AAA product. Then there is no relation from D2 to D3 - no stat point allocation, no skill tree, WoW graphics, and etc. I can't believe this game. But I guess that is all Activision.

Can't wait for Torchlight II :) The first was great...but this one will be excellent with coop multiplayer! I'm a day 1 purchase for myself and a few more copies for my family. What a great price....$20 bucks. Thanks Runic! Co-op LAN...good times!! I read a comment that Torchlight is 'ripping off' Diablo? Some (if not all) of these people ARE the people who actually made Diablo. And who would complain about MORE Diablo anyway? Bring it...I'll play. :)

@ Keaze_ I can't see why anyone would downvote that post. Blizzard knows when to release a product and it's well made way before that. Take the worgen capital for example, how long has it been there off limits? And Mt. Hyjal before that. As soon as WoW and Starcraft income falls, they will release Diablo 3. People have only a few free hours to dedicate to gaming, some more than others and when wow is taking up most of their time, releasing another time consuming game while another of their own is still on it's prime time would be like they're rivaling themselves. So instead of splitting their customers on 2-3 products, they launch them separately so everyone will get the latest one as soon as they're done with the previous one.

They're not perfecting Diablo3, they're waiting for their money to start being a little low before they release it. They know damn well we will all wait for it like sheeps. Me included.

hey black_syka what do you think torchlight 2 will be , the same idio.ic button mashing with graphics right out of children books no story and skills copied from diablo ... ,,oh yeah it has multiplayer now so it's the best game because it has multiplayer now''look at the difference in tl 1 and 2 and in diablo 2 and 3 .... geezzz i think that all of you people who talk down diablo 3 are just frustrated that it take a long time to be developed , it takes a long time to be perfect also there is a life outside your rooms with your computers, i am a very dedicated gamer i played everything from 1995 til now and older ones but not all the older ones every kind of games , i like games that are done good but i rarely write down something on this site because i like doing other stuff than just critic and i like to enjoy games as they are when they come out

@Dataun I agree with you in some ways, but who knows? Have an open mind, D3 will not be the same at D2 but that doesnt mean it wont be great. I loved D2 and spent lots of time on it, i do still play it but i would like something new also. Torchlight was awesome and torchlisht 2 will be awesome also... I do think D3 will have a lot of similar things relating to D2 even if there are wow geeks making it. They will stick to some of the lore and same type of thing because they know thats what all the fans want. Dont give up hope yet man! Iknow i wont until i play D3 and Torchlight 2 for myself:)

But this isn't the first torchlight only with multiplayer right? It's a complete new game right?

@Dataun Totally agree. The heart and soul of the original Blizzard is in these Torchlight games. You can see it in everything. This game just looks straight-up *fun*. Just running around with your friends blasting your way to level 99. Can't wait.

With how well Torchlight sold on Xbox Live Arcade, it makes sense that this will eventually come to console. The developer said they were overwhelmed by the amount of downloads and praise the game received on console. That's good stuff right there.

Its humorous to me that everyone always compares games to other games of the same genre. Many of you fail to realize that each game is its own individual universe. Why compare Diablo with Torchlight? Who cares? Its about enjoying playing the game, its not a pissing contest. To many developers their heart and souls are poured into these games as an artistic outlet and expression so that others can enjoy their creations. You enjoyed playing Diablo, cool. You enjoyed playing Torchlight, cool too. The developers work is done. End of story.

Any chance we will be seeing this on console aswell?

you guys talk about torchlight 2 over d3 as if you played d3. d3 is going to be on such a higher level than this. granted, it will be much more intricate and sophisticated. so maybe you won't like that. sounds to me like you just want a d1 or d2 clone. us progressive gamers will continue to anticipate d3 over this nonsense. put the crack pipes down.

@Datun umadbro? The cool thing about lore is, it's flexible - I can't say I know an awful lot about Diablo lore, but I can say the Demon Hunter makes sense in my book - an individual so obssessed with destroying something, that they literally become that something. (In this case, dark magic and glowing eyes... enough evidence for me.) Of course, your point automatically bcame invalid when you complained about D3 not having any of the characters from D2. G'day.

ummm im hardcore diablo1 and diablo2 player ive been playing diablo2 since release, not constantly but atleast couple of months every year i once was top3 in Hardcore ladder lvl 98 then i died, damn u IRONmaiden, i just wanna say Torchlight got the good old Diablo2 feel to it, alot of people who were developing TorchLight did on Diablo2 before, Now D3 does not got any of the old crew, but a bunch of wow fanatics i mean common Demonhunter wtf with glowin eyes, im more hyped about this game then my good old diablo franchies, THIS IS THE ORGINAL DIABLO DEVELOPMENT TEAM, Kudos for meaking exelent game at minmal umm money income? TL2 > D3 from a hardcore Diablo fan! D3 is infiltrated by wow geeks truth just look at it they dont stick to lore at all.

Well i hope they dont focus just on co-op. i mean sure the first lacked co-op, but it also lacked an epic story like diablo 2, and quests. if they just take torchlight1+co-op then ill wait until they introduced good story

BabyD117
BabyD117

honestly ur retarded for making that comment no offense but i have the first torchlight n it was way too repetitive and there wasn't really much to explore..i think you should go take a whole bottle of sleeping pills and when you wake up maybe you'll make some sense

black_syka

I'd take Torchlight II over D3 anyday. I mean, D3 has been in the making for how many eons? Blizzard is just not the gaming company it once was. Just take a look at SC2, it's simply SC 1 with shinier graphics and a phew redesigned units. To me all blizzard games that came out after WC3 are a waste of money. At least Runic put effort in making their game.

I hope it will have more exploration, an awesome single player and more previews or interviews soon :D

Oh man, this is not good. I hope they don't make the game all about Multiplayer because of some idiot kids think they deserve it in EVERY game. Ugh, you little brats are ruining my pastime.

The thing about dungeon crawlers is, no matter how much you play them, they never get old.

Finally, some outdoor environments. If D3 is released at a similar time to this though, it will be tough for torchlight to compete, I think.

@coolee67 I doubt that D3 will be coming out anytime soon so you may as well get this first

I love dungeon crawlers. And this one is on my buy list. But i'm not sure if I should get diablo 3 first...

It might not be quite as polished as Diablo 3, but its still wickedly addictive. Cant wait for Torchlight 2. Hell, I plan on getting the original on XBL in a few months...couldnt care less that I already beat it a few times on PC.

grim dawn , torchlight 2 , darkspore, dungeon siege 3 . magicka... deathspank all this amazing hackdand slash games at 2011??? now i understand why blizzard dont announced the release date for diablo 3... they try to see all the fresh ideas to add them in diablo 2... i am pretty sure that we are going to have in diablo 3 share stash and other new ideas which became from other franchizes ... but if i see my barbarian with a dog i am going to puke...

thank god that they dont do this tiny artifact an mmo as their firsth thoughts....

so a torchlight with open areas to explore ...solid ...

Diablo's art style isn't as cartoony as Torchlight. So I will prefer Diablo III over Torchlight II. Of course, it also depends on when they are actually released.

It looks pretty good. But notice that there are only 3 players in this multiplayer trailer. Maybe that's the limit?

Mega_Loser

yay for co-op multi. i hope they will be adding many new things, however, as development goes. I'd hate to discover TL2 is just TL with multi support.

So I bought torchlight I and i made a bad mistake.. now with the 2nd game arrive and that he will be turned into mmorpg that really sucks to be me..

blitzinD

Another thing to consider in the Diablo III versus Torchlight debate is the cost. Torchlight was $20. I assume Torchlight II will maintain the lower cost price point. If that is the case and Diablo III is going to sell in the usual $60 price range, it better bring the goods.

at last a real competition comes to diablo series..hurry up blizz, diablo 3 may not shine as you expect ;)

MNCHRM

@Gabriex Wow! That's pure evil! I mean... isn't it enough hype?! I already knew that Diablo III is at least almost finished (if not ready to launch, as you said), but I was thinking that they are heavily optimizing it(considering the massive fan base and the expectations). Sometimes, with all the rumors and pushing back, I hope at least my grandchildren will be able to play it...lol. Well, at least good games like this are released now and then for passing the time.

Gabriex
Gabriex

It seemns pretty cool, and open-world, think I'll give it a tr, since I enjoyed the first one... @MNCHRM I heard a rumor that Diablo III it's finished but Blizzard won't launch it to increase the hype...but it's just a rumor...

Mercbaker

@khimeron13  You really cannot support D3. You as a consumer are a pureblooded sheep if you do. There are so many strategies implemented in D3 to benefit the company and NOT benefit the consumer it is ridiculous. No offline play, no LAN, business based off microtransaction after buying a $60 game. What the hell is this? There is no need to even debate the mechanics because the game is already an evil product.

Mercbaker
Mercbaker

@buriedbullet There is only ONE game to love. Diablo II. Because the best talent from Diablo II created Torchlight. And because Diablo III is so very far away from the original series then there is a very BIG reason to compare the two games. You think it humorous huh? Go spend $60 on a game that lags when you play single player (because there is no offline play). Then see if your laughing buddy.

Mercbaker
Mercbaker

@2chase LMFAO Boy where you wrong! More intricated? Yeah it is, when it comes to putting the consumer through a bunch of hoops. The game is dumbed down to sell more copies to a wider market. There is no skill tree, or stat point allocation. If this is sophistication then I must be Stephen Hawkin. You call yourself a progressive gamer, then stop buying this corporation benefiting bullshit. Last time I checked, I bought video games that were fun to play. Not throw money at a company just because they used to make good games.

Mercbaker
Mercbaker

@Dataun Yep completely agree. And since this comment is AFTER the launch and the shit has hit the fan very hard, you were right.
