I think they showed that demo to impress people with explosions and set pieces, the real meat is when you play it and see the exploration, the hunting etc.
I was disappointed with Tomb Raider. I was hyped with it before and now it seems to over the top and action heavy.
I'm with Tom and Max on this. Tomb Raider just doesn't feel like Tomb Raider. I'm just not sure what to make of it.
I absolutely enjoyed the gameplay they showed off for Tomb Raider. Yeah she seems to be able to take a shot or two, or perhaps the person demo'ing the game wasn't getting shot based off of their maneuverability (or they had "god-mode" activated for the purpose of playing through for show)... whatever the case, it looked super fun and thrilling. But the thing I am being drawn to most so far, through their two playthroughs from these last 2 E3 events, is Lara herself. There seems to be a vulnerability and humanity that I haven't seen very prevalent in past Tomb Raider games (I'm not a veteran player, only played some of a couple titles). I cared about Lara without seeing her on screen for more than 2 minutes. Maybe it was just me, but I think they're doing a great job putting this together from the limited glances we've gotten so far. I think I'll be picking this one up the day it's released.
I understand completely the issues they bring up here, and share their concerns. I have no problems with Tomb Raider ending up like Uncharted, being cinematic and action packed, so long as it's well done. I just think it would work better if they took some pages from that OTHER Naughty Dog game...The Last of Us. I think it's that kind of gritty realism and intense atmosphere that Tomb Raider needs, not an explosion fest where Lara can sometimes take shotgun blasts to the face, and at other times get all wounded by a tree branch.
And don't say Tomb Raider came before Uncharted, so it can't copy it. I realize Tomb Raider came much earlier, but the demo I saw today was Uncharted with a female protagonist.
Either way, I know I'm going to enjoy Tomb Raider, I just wish they'd really stick to their guns with a more slow-paced, gritty survival game.
I'll take my Tomb Raider games with horrible camera angles, making jumps I can't see into my death, big open worlds with nothing to do, and guns that auto target thank you very much. (joking) Seriously tho people on here always talking about giving chances, but we aren't even giving this a chance. Remain skeptical sure, but remember something good might come out of it. Oh as for the survival. Have people already forgotten the video of her killing a deer and eating it. That counts doesn't it?
This game is definitely a very different take on Lara, and I'm absolutely loving it. Sure, it's not classic TR, but I'm really digging the combination of what looks like TR-Uncharted hybrid gameplay, a Lara that is scared, inexperienced and completely out of her comfort zone, as well as what is shaping up to be a pretty harrowing experience for both Lara and the player; and to top it all off, we've got an excellent team at Square Enix working with them to craft a top-notch cinematic experience that looks to rival MGS4 and FFXIII.
E3's biggest games = 3 shooters and one adventure that is heavily shooter in its own right?

Ah, I remember the very first tomb raider. You're climbing walls exploring the jungle. Then a T-REX appears from out of nowhere.
Now that was tomb raider.
This is either going to be a hit or a miss. It's either going to be a great game or just..."eh". Here's hoping to the former, because to me, it's "looks" amazing. (I enjoy Uncharted, so I don't care if it's copying...;D)
First Uncharted copied Tomb Raider now Tomb Raider is copying uncharted. Everything has come full circle lol
I'm looking forward to this title and it looks like it can be a good game provided Square Enix and Crystal Dy execute this carefully and efficiently. Thing is, Tomb Raider is a game where the player can climb their way tombs and find artifacts and treasures, not go through a bunch of action-Hollywood type sequences.
Sure, the action part can work well but I hope it doesn't become the core of the game. Look at what happened with Ace Combat: Assault Horizon; the Dogfighter Mode took away from all of the challenge and it becomes repetitive and boring fast.
I just hope the developers don't go overboard with how "good" or "hot" Lara is supposed to look; this is supposed to reveal the grittiness and the hardships in Lara's past, after all. I'll still be keeping an eye on this title, but I'll be pretty skeptical on how they'll pace the plot.
One of my middle school students pointed out that this version of Tomb Raider appears to have a lot more violence inflicted on Laura this time around. It made him feel a little uncomfortable with how often she is getting hit, stabbed, and all of the pain she appears to be in. I'm a little inclined to agree with him.
I don't agree with what they say tomb raider as been okay in the past haven't been a big fan til this one but i really like this one alot bc of the action and open area and how there are interactive items . But they said its a survival game and it does have that element but no one is going to play this if they think once u get shot with a shotgun u die everything time. Its still a video game you cant make a game were u die in one shot.
I thought the exact same thing while watching it. It doesn't remind of Tomb Raider at all! Guardian of light was a completely different take on Tomb Raider but it still Tomb Raider... I don't know what this is. They're saying they wanted to take Tomb Raider in new direction, more mature direction but It's looking to be the most uncreative game I've seen all day. Now I'm not saying the game looks bad, it looks good, but from what I've seen this certainly ain't Tomb Raider.
Interesting thoughts, though it's not like they're going to show you 30 minutes of inaction at an E3 press conference, duh.
I like what Gamespo is doing. There are giving balanced opinions about the games demonstrations. Most sites don't do much more than report the news and the few editorial commentaries I've seem look like fan service.
I like what I've seen. I'd bet a lot of people haven't played most if any Tomb Raider games and showing it off like it's Uncharted can help draw the Xbox players who don't have Nathan Drake to fill their archeologist-rogue gameplay desires.
if you look at lara closely you'll see she had "botox" injections and bullets bounce off her face ... yikes !

They can't show you everything idiots! It's not getting released till next year anyway and they could've just given us a new trailer. But they actually decided to show us some in game footage (which I thought looked excellent) and all you guys can say is: "it looks like 'Uncharted' and 'MGS!'"Oh and another thing, expand your vocabulary because "like" is not a conjunction!!!
It has already been speculated (by many wiser than myself) that the story and the concept for this game took precedent over the gameplay and from the footage I saw today I think I agree.
I thought it looked great, and the fact that it looks like uncharted is a good thing! Just because games are similar doesnt mean its a "dumb rip off".

@RoSeeksTruth If properly managed, that violence could help build a strong emotional connection between the player and Lara. Conversely, it could also be overdone for pure shock value. I hope the developers go with the former.
@PrplMnkyDshwsr7 The devs stated this game will be semi open world, with fast travelling and the ability to choose different routes to a goal.
@chibi-acer True, but we can only comment on what we saw. I still have high hopes for the game.
@Connor728 Other publishers--Ubi for example--have shown gameplay demos that showed plenty more than on-rails sequences and quick time events. Crystal Dynamics chose what to show--and they chose a very limited slice of gameplay.
@Nathalmighty1 Yep is too bad haters gonna hate. Is like the whole All stars Royale thing. It should be a matter of who does it better not who did it first.

@Kevin-V Well based on what you're saying their demo was about as pointless as this video as it didn't provide me with anything I didn't already know. Just a bunch of Uncharted fanboys complaining about how much Tomb Raider copies the PS3 title.
