Today On the Spot - Need for Speed Shift, Community Spotlight
Today On the Spot, we look toward the horizon as the crew gets ready to ship out to PAX and the Tokyo Game Show 2009. We'll tell you how to spend your points this week on Xbox Marketplace and show you Need for Speed: Shift from EA's visit to our studio.
The game has sod all to do with Pro Street, it is being written by a completely different development house, whose coders all specialise in PC sim racers (most worked on Gtr and Gtr 2). This game was already in development when EA picked it up, and the NFS tag and arcade nonsense added thereafter. You can also stop whining about a demo, ea have said NO demo prior to launch, as they wanted the team working on the full game.
guess im just gonna have to wait a few more years for gran turismo 5 few more years???? dude its coming out oct. 27th 2009 after that the best bet to do if SHIFT dont turn out right CRITERION coming out 2010 with next NEED FOR SPEED hopeing its HIGHSTAKES 2 or HOTPURSUIT 3
man, im only buying this if it has a control configuration with a clutch, im gonna get te sick logitech wheel, and am not gonna waste my money if i cant even use the clutch and H-patern shifter, i guess im just gonna have to wait a few more years for gran turismo 5
Hey, where is the DEMO????? They had a Demo for "Pro Street"...Yes, there was a demo for "Most Wanted"...Yes, there was a demo for "Carbon"...Yes, so why not a demo for this new game? Wait a minute, I recall that there wasn't any Demo for "Undercover", so that means this game might be crap. I hope not, cause I enjoy the NFS franchise. I fear they might fall if the franchise keeps putting out unpopular driving games.
yehh I agree with hotrider12..no need to exaggerate. If this new version is so good..why cant u release a DEMO???we ll decide its good or bad..no more videos of this NFS gamespot..we just need demo!!!!!
"Yeah. It [Shift] actually started out as ProStreet 2. "You'll see the obvious references, like we've got the Tokyo track in there, albeit a bit more mature; there's no balloons or anything like that. The thing with ProStreet was that they couldn't go straight from street racing to a track racer - that would have annoyed a few people. So it was really the first stage of the transition, mixing courses with the street stuff, and this is where they (EA) always wanted it to go. YEAH, I THOUGHT I SMELLED PROSTREETS IN THIS SH'T
Ansem the Wise is voiced by Christopher Lee. DIsney bought Marvel for approximately 4000 Million dollors. Order of War takes place during World War 2.
Does not look bad, but personally I really like arcade like racers. These kind of games only have a niche market b/c (at least imo) they're rather hard to learn especially if you're not that big a gamer to begin with, you just like to hop in and hop out for about 30 mins....
@ spartansrock i agree with u but shift do have resemblence of GRID crashing,... I've played GRID. one thing i loved about GRID was the ability to re-do a race after a crash to avoid that crash. now if shift have that engine sweet!! but on other hand shift remind me of GT-3 end of each races ur rewarded with new cars and trophies with graphic of forza .....if anyone look closely shift tracks look like an up-date of prostreets. tracks with gran turismo 5 prologue green an red lines on the road... if this FAILS we all can rest asure CRITERION will come out HOT in 2010 with hotpursuit 3 im not saying i know for sure. but i do know cops will be in criterion NFS read it back in july on gamenews24.com so most likely it'll be mostwanted 2 or hotpursuit 3 or!!! highstakes 2
@rostam93 This game is nothing like GRID, doesn't even come close. Go play GRID and then come say your opinion in here. GRID is amazingly accurate and a heck of alot of fun. Not to mention its been out for a little while and now its only like 20 or 30 bucks so cheaper as well and still beats this NFS crap
hotrider, you kinda proved it does have something to give. the good from grid and the good from gt5 in one game. that's saying something. idk if i agree with that, but i do agree that iv'e wanted a sim with a cinematic feeling and rush of speed while at the same time maintaining realistic mechanics. and this seems to be it.
from SWEETMUSIC so what does Shift offer that others games don't? IMO not a DAMN THING!!!!!! to much like gran turismo.. crash like GRID offer trophies like GRID which u can get in GRID, awards and trophy you can get in any gran turismo game. so it has nothing to OFFER!!
I'll be getting Forza Motorsport 3 instead of this for a simulation racing game, and I already have Midnight Club: Los Angeles for an arcade racing game, so what does Shift offer that others games don't?
just looks like a somewhat better version of ProStreet, if you like racing sims save your money for an extra month, then the king will be released. Forza 3
@green_dominator, I agree with you on NFS U and NFSU2 as well as NFSMW but Prostreet was a flop, and Shift looks like a direct copy of GRID, I mean really. The best thing about the need for speed series was that you could race, and customize your car as well as car parts, and cops. Need for speed hot pursuit 1&2 had cops, that was always really fun. Then they decided to go in a new direction, Street Racing. that was great and they still had cops. Then we got Most wanted which was pretty much all about cops and the law. that was extremely challenging and heck of a lotta fun. But, now we have this crap...regular old boring upgraded nascar. When did EA lose their touch? When did building something that went against what people liked become better? I'm really disappointed to say the least.
for a strange reason all of a sudden i started looking forward for need for speed shift, it looks really good , but its a simulator now so i will wait and see if you can fine tune your car parts like forza or gran turismo , and actually i need a demo for shift to see how is the driving , because in the video the car looked so weight less when it slipped on got back on track really fast , try slipping out of track on other simulator and its the end of race.
@Canadian97, I agree but Underground 2 was good at the time, so was Most Wanted and they had a good thing with Pro Street... Shift is a big step in the right direction...... I think street racing is kinda getting old.....
Finally NFS is leaving the kiddie "street racing" and moving on to proper road course racing. With the new developer I think this game will turn things around.
That one guy must be high saying... Tom Clancy Ghost Recon : Advance War Fighter 'is a great purchase for around $30' WTF!!!! It's a great game.... but you can get this 2006 game on ebay for $5 to $10 bucks. Only an idiot would pay $30.
i want NFS but hmmm GT 5 =] lol and if i wanted an arcade racer... i have one in the arcades with save cards =] other than that i must say driving lines = suck =[ lol i dont want them in nfs... just makes it so much easier for ppl
i might pick up NFS shift since no one knows the damned realese date of GT5 and i'm not a fan of rally so DiRT2 is not for me,i think NFS is good enough, customising, badges and trophies, levels and challenges, profiles, online multiplayer first of all a good number of cars, somthing good to play until GT5 comes out since i got bored of the GT5 prologue, anyway it was a nice show this week.
NFS Shift is the type of game you know you'll end up buying... But I have to admit, the game seems interesting.
At the start of the NFS part of the video, the host says that the guy testing the game is a good game driver...yet he doesn't know how to drive Spa? How good of driver could he be if he can't drive Spa?
Excited to seed NFS leave the toddler crew it seemed to be after the last few games and return to us older guys. The scripts they made sounds very interesting (panel bluring after a certain speed, yadda yadda) along with that being able to race people online with same driving style is going to be enjoyable. Don't think to many people will be running each other off the tracks in my races, good clean fun.
