Thief is a proud entry in this storied franchise while building on other themes from the genre.
Did you enjoy this video?
THIEF DEADLY SHADOWS, METALGEAR SOLID, ARKHAM CITY, TENCHU,SPLINTER CELL,HITMAN, MANHUNT, ASSASINS CREED AND EVEN OBLIVION ALL THESE STEALTH BASED GAMES ARE BEST PLAYED FROM THIRD PERSON PERSPECTIVE.
Why not this one. i waited for this game for nearly 9 years and they didnt bother to add Third person camera?
i am sick of first person killing machines.
There's really nothing new here. The graphics are certainly polished, but it's all been done before. Im a fan of the old Thief games, but that was literally a decade ago. I hope Eidos has more up its sleeve than just the same old sh!t.
Ok WtF?! Is the person on the right a man or a woman?!!!
I'm sick and tired of these 1st person games...thief should be played just like it used to be with the option of choosing which perspective you want to play it in. 1st person only is going to suck...
Pumped like the neighbour's cat over next installment of Thief. It's the original stealth game and deserves a reincarnation. Let's hope they do a good job of it!
Wasn't really excited by the demo, especially the walking like a zombie with hands in front... bleqq!
Looking Glass Studios=best developer ever. You could also tell just from the credits in the Thief games how brilliant those guys were (and still are).
yeah............I'm not too hyped on this game. i like stealth and i also like FPS even though I'm getting tired of seeing too many of them.but i am not very fond of first person perspective stealth games. and in terms of stealth there some great stealth games coming that are not FPP like PHANTOM PAIN, BLACKLIST, BLACK FLAG, ARKHAM ORIGINS which i have set my eyes on but i will see what this game has to offer though.
no stabby stabby? not my game, i'll wait for dishonored 2
This looks rather delicious. The facts of the matter are that Thief needs to be the same as it was - AND be different. That, I am sure, is going to be the hardest thing for the developers. I am confident that for the most part, they will pull it off. This game has been in the works for years - and I have been patiently awaiting for it's arrival. I am sure I will enjoy it. As a long time gamer, I owned the very first game the day it came out back in 1998, and I every game since. I can honestly say that I am a die hard - and consider the original game to be a masterpiece among masterpieces - the best of the best. I am hoping this game does really well -and that there is enough interest for someone to redo the first game with updated visuals. Keep the gameplay and story exactly the same - just imagine a whole new generation of gamers who missed out on the magic that was The Dark Project, because they were not born or too young to play the original. I would love for someone to give this game a facelift - sort of like they did with Halo Combat Evolved for it's 10th anniversary. Well, one can only dream.
Ok please PLEASE tell people this, Thief did NOT steal Monaco's tag line, Listen to the dam Thief 3 trailer!! Stephen russle goes through a big LONG list of what he can do and the LAST thing he says is "What is yours, Can be Mine" That came out Looonnggg before. Im sick of people saying thief stole stuff when it is new games that took it from them! Geez, sorry my rant is over I just hate it when people don't even bother too look. :)
hmm I was hoping for a 3rd person camera option. Not a deal breaker but I really enjoyed playing Deadly Shadows using the 3rd person option.
can everyone stop being immature bitches and stop commenting on how the commentators look, its a game review ffs, its not a movie casting.
and I agree the moves in theif look ... disturbing
this looks like crap those movements and how the hell those guards dont see the guy fail
Good luck trying to make a good Thief with that clumsy movement.
this is like Dishonored, but way better. Ive played the past Thief games on PC..and man were they awesome. Im deffo getting a PS4 for this :)
Thief is were it all started....I love this type of game play.
As long as there is a hardcore old school mode, I don't care how other's play. If you want a hand holding experience, be my guest. I've been waiting a long time for this.
is the reporter on the right a man or a woman?
Please get better reporter, one with more dynamic personality. That is the best way I can put that without being cruel.
at 03:37 it looks like he is terrified of her
They're going to kill my favourite franchise arent they? i just know it...
Don't get me wrong i understand they've got to update this and i guess "consolify" it to a certain extent but this just looks pants at the moment..
Why the hell do they have to put takedowns in it? In the original thief all you had to do was walk behind them with your blackjack and club them, not put a sodding "quicktime" event in it!
Pfff, this has just as much to do with the Thief-series as Black list has with the Splinter Cell-series. A crappy mix of more action, more explosions, superduper 'I can see through walls' shit, blink skill and the name of a legendary gaming franchise slapped onto it so they get free advertisement. Would have been better if they called it Dishonored 2 since it has a lot more incommon with that then Thief (liked Dishonored btw).
this doesn't look half bad, maybe it is kind of similar to dishonored which is a good thing, stealth first person games are lacking so this is a great new to the game industry
maybe is not 100% a thief game but it is better than nothing i guess :/
I agree, Thief does seem to mimic Dishonored, but then again, the Thief series began years before Dishonored was made. I personally don't care about imitators, as long as the games are enjoyable.
Thief is one game I hope to try out...when I get the money to afford to buy an Xbox One or PS4, that is.
I really don't like that it showed an external animation when he knocked that one guy out. For me that removes me from the character experience and ruins the immersion. It's so unnecessary and I wish they wouldn't go that route or at least have an option to turn it off. In the original games I always enjoyed the intensity of the up close knockouts because you never quite knew if the guard might suddenly turn around and there you are face to face. This one looked like once he innitiated the knockout it just went into a pre-rendered animation and that totally ruins the whole feeling of risk involved in those actions. But I guess we'll have to just wait and see how it all plays out. I am at least happy to hear him say it's not possible to just blast your way through a level.
I miss tenchu even more than thief. I wonder if this franchize died
what i wish is that things in games didnt scream 'here i am, come get me' with blinking or highlighting. its silly. you should be able to turn that crap off. i mean, dont spoon feed me through the whole game. let me pick something up and assess its value in my hands. he's not wearing the batsuit.
I thought we would finally get good global illumination approximation this generation (and maybe we will... wait for UE4). I love Thief, but when he turned off the lights and turned the valve it look pretty flat ambient and low texture res... a PC could do that 5 years ago...
Improving? More like shitting all over through painful dumbing down.
Honestly I think this iteration of Thief is not gonna be true to the franchise and from what I've seen I'm a bit disappointed.
First of all the first person perspective just doesn't seem right for a game about stealing, it's kind of like playing Skyrim with the only missions being to loot houses, with a third person view you can rotate the camera to see your surroundings better without moving your character which is a much better fit and always has been.
I'm also pretty put off by thew whole crazy vision system that shows you were the enemies are, to me Thief has always been about thinking of a good plan based on your observation of peoples movement and had a hardcore style of gameplay where you take care to notice every shadow and try not to walk around a corner right into the eyesight of a person.
The new vision system just dumbs the game down, I know it's optional but I still think it shouldn't be there to begin with.
I think I'll be skipping this chapter in the Thief story simply for the fact I can already tell I'm gonna get bored of sneaking around in first person and grabbing loot Skyrim or Far Cry 3 style with not much else in terms of gameplay, this combined with the fact it's now first person view with irritating darkness overlay around the border of view to tell you what level of darkness your in which is a bit to much and makes it kind of hard to see around pretty much seals the deal for me.
I hope they make another thief like the older versions because I was really excited for this title until I saw the boring gameplay and gimmicky new camera effects.
just hope that on higher difficulty I can turn the 'focus" thing off cause I don't need batman vision to solve nay puzzles or take out guards, I don't mind the ninja moves thief got and I'm glad that combat is NOT an option, but I remember on hardcore setting we were not allowed to kill anyone unless it was undead, a monster, or a robot thing ...etc
anyways looks nice, dark and very detailed, I just hope there is an option to just NOT have focus powers at all
Square Enix seems to have given Thief the Tomb Raider/Absolution treatment. They added eagle vision, made it more linear (less big open levels, more short 10 minute segments), more accessible, more cinematic and I wouldn't at all be surprised if Thief had QTEs. I'm not expecting this one to be anything like the old ones, the most important mechanic in Hitman was hiding in plain sight and figuring out how all the pieces fit together, but they've completely forsaken that so they can add Instinct and a shitty cover system. Same thing with Tomb Raider which used to be about exploration and puzzles and was turned into a plain straight up cover based shooter. Yeah, RIP Thief.
Maybe it's a little too soon to say, but somehow this doesn't live up to my expectations. I'm not getting a Garret vibe here.
soooo.... dishonered with better graphics?
There are automatic tap-a-button takedowns? Why?
What is this? Batman Arkham Whatever?
The whole charm of Thief-games was in the difficulty of getting close to a guard and then using your blackjack at the right moment to knock them out. You held your breath when a guard, that you were shadowing, would stop at a well-lit area and you didn't know if he would keep moving ahead or turn around and come at your direction.
Now you've just removed that difficulty altogether.
A friend of mine is a true Thief fan, from the beginning. He disliked Dishonoured. When seeing this he got excited... but the agility of the player shown in the gameplay video is too much for him. Does anyone here agrees?
They really need to make this a THIEF game and not a Dishonored game. Hopefully they dont draw too much inspiration from the most recent iteration in the genre. I like Dishonored'n all but the Thief universe had elements of creepiness and a depth of story that i dont think Dishonored has.
I loved the old Thief games and this looks promising.
if you just stay in the shadows during the entire game, its gonna get boring somehow imo.
Looks like Disshonoured... not looking forward to it.
From what I saw of this game, other than the cool leaning, it looks kind of bad, at least from an A.I. and action perspective, though I'm well aware of it not being an action focused game, but still.
Looks good, but i think it will be better if they make it a 3rd person as well.. like deus ex
Ill take 1st person anyday over 3rd person., Personally i think all games should have both options.
A promising game! Waiting mode ACTIVATED
XP.Xp in a Thief game. How much more experience a master thief needs?
1st person? isn't this kind of game better at 3rd person?
burning building escape?
gee, that's never been done before :/
