The State of Nintendo 2010 Interview: Cammie Dunaway
We speak to Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, about what's in store for the Wii and DSi in 2010.
It seems that she truly knew her work, to bad Nintendo let her go, hope she does fine in her next job.
She kinda reminds me of Sarah Palin of Reggie Fils-Aime but Cammie definitely isn't as stupid as Palin is xD I
Generation 7 has reinvented itself all three companies. I dont see new hardware anytime soon like Cammie stated in this video. Nintendo getting hardcore games and Microsoft & Sony going motion games. All 3 systems have a lot of room to grow now and I dont see generation 8 for a long time.
What a joke, saying "We (at Nintendo) know how to create amazing experiences." after bragging about the game for Motion+ where you drag a ball around the screen, avoiding obstacles. Yeah, innovative, right. I hate this woman.
This gen still has no solid/real RPG games. All that might change with The Last Story from Mistwalker.
I want Super Mario 64, but more! Like Super Mario Wii. With all the worlds of Super Mario 64 and more. I know tons more can fit on a Wii disc! Limit for 64 was 64MB! Wii is like 8.5GB (dual-layered).
Imagine the huge worlds and the amount of worlds they could make for a new Super Mario that isn't Galaxy! I like jumping through paintings more than wandering on small planets.
Eternal Darkness Remake??? Part 2??? dam that was a great GC game. Still waiting. ... also now with M+ do a better job of SW: UnL 2
to be honest, if you really like 360 and ps3 kind titles, then you oughta get them and play them there, its a superior hardware. The wii is gona continue to offer "different" stuff, and to be honest, its kinda fresh looking at it now .. its not just mindless shooters ..
hmmm that word harcore gamer comes up alot now days. someone please exlplain to this 32 year old gamer what the heck a hardcore gamer is. as i see it its not someone who plays fps's all day getting head shot after headshot. dont get me wrong i like fps's and adult rated games but thats not what makes me a true gamer. Games like mario, zelda, metroid for nintendo are there own money spinners a bit like halo is for microsoft. that dont mean that there isnt any other of these so called hardcore games on the wii. just look about, i bet alot of people overlooked zack and wiki. i class that as a so called hardcore game as it was to dam tough to complete. even trauma center is as harcore as it gets, i still cant finish it. there are alot of overlooked games on the wii that need attention just cos they dont have brown graphics and blood and guts dont make them any less hardcore. i challenge anyone to play through megaman or ghost and goblins and not get frustrated at how hard those games are. i class those 2 games as hardcore as you can get and they have 16bit graphics. to be a true gamer stop moaning about what systems are best and just enjoy the one you chose or play on every console if you can afford it as they all offer good choice gaming.
ah yes 3 core games over the course of the year appeals to hardcore gamers sooo much. The expanded audience gave them lots of money so of course they would want to continue focus here. As for zelda+mario+metroid yes they will probably be great games, but these titles already have a following, I think its about time we got something brand new. As for being able to create a better experience and "characters we love" she is more or less right, nintendo imo has the largest "unique" character base. (games that came from the console developer) microsoft and sony dont have as many.
I agree that this was a rather "let's focus on the positive and ignore the negative" type of Q&A from Nintendo's side. Frankly, though, they have dominated the market in terms of profit and units sold (last I read anyway) so why exactly should they feel they owe anyone an apology? True the hardcore games are missing on the Wii for the most part, yet the Wii has dominated and so Nintendo views this as an unequivocal success. On a side note, I'd like to join the others showing respect for Gamespot. Great job in showing the stones to ask uncomfortable questions so that the gamers can get the answers we want to hear. This is often missed when other reporters conduct soft interviews.
let's be honest Mrs. Vice President, Nintendo has irrevocably let down hardcore gamers since the Wii's Launch. All you should be saying is "I'm sorry. It's about damn time we decided to appeal to the people who stood in line to get their Wii." She talks about all these third party developers, developers that made games like "Party Babyz" and other junk, and tries to compare it to the third party developers like Naughty Dog. There is no comparison. Mrs. Vice President, all your large install base means is that the incentives to produce quality products are absent; put a game on a Wii, and it'll sell -no matter the what. Gamers know that no third party developer will produce games of expected quality on the Wii, and THAT'S why Ubisoft is done with you. They can't sell any games targeted for hardcore gamers. Ugh. Nintendo has become the Great-Value-Only-Wal-mart of the game industry. Though, maybe the Other M will make me stop regretting my Wii purchase.
I love the Wii and about every thing about it. I want to see a epic mature game, i know other m is coming out more like other m, ya that's it and have a game like Metroid prime 4 i really really want that so much. Wii will stay in the lead as long as they keep making great games like the ones i am now seeing as for Wii HD i hope it happens because my friends are starting to annoy me on how they have 1080p graphics and i don't if it does not happen oh well i will still play the Nintendo units til' i die.
I don't care what anyone says, you loved mario galaxy and you will be dusting off the wii in order to play its sequel. I currently own a 360 as well as a wii and I am extremely excited for MG2 and the new Zelda, with hopes of both titles taking me back to my early video game experiences on the N64 (ahhh nostalgia).
I have high respects for Nintendo, but I really don't like the way she talks for Nintendo. She exagerates everything too much. Other than that, this is going to be a great year. Nintendo is putting quite the effort with their biggest franchises. But I hardly see anything interesting from third parties.
Metroid: Other M + Galaxy 2 + New Zelda = Me + Wii Seriously, if this is really gonna be the hardcore year Nintendo is promising I will buy a Wii. If I didn't already have a DS I'd by one for Warioware DIY and Pokemon HG/SS. Hell, I might by a DS Lite (because I want my GBA slot >( ) and retire my old tank.
"Only nintendo can make characters that people can love" WHAT? Is she like totally blocking out all thought of Master Chief, Solid Snake, Big Daddy, Altiar, Soap, Pipboy. and more. seriously i dont hate nintendo but i just feel that them trying to say theyre still cooler then the other companies is strait up retarded and culmpolsively fueled my inflated allusions of supremacy. they need to wake up and relize that quarkey/gimmicky control schemes die off in interest and need great form to keep up. yes they have improved the motion sensing but has anything really practical came out for it? And MG2 doesnt even use it. They realy need to take it to the next level because we all know that theres been little to no reason to brush the dust off our wiis and play. seriously ive used my wii only to play Wii Fit, and really thats not even a game its just a fun little exercise i do with my family.
"Oh" and why does the mario Galaxy title continue to say "U R MR GAY seriously, don't believe me? look at your game cases and theres a star next to each of those letters.
Since when is two games in a year reaching the hardcore market? look at 360 and PS3, we've had like 20 launches in two months. i love you nintendo but hey bust it up another notch, cause as of right now my bank is crossing out nintendo's home console. Sony in my eyes right now looks like the best investment of right now. good price great games and good peripheral and add-ons ability. but wii you cant even use it as a CD player? 360 is definately awesome as well but i think that microsoft will continue to feture with prepubesant teens that sing britany spears all game over the mic.
Cammie did well here. It's good to see that Ninty hasn't forgot the people who gave them their wings.
"We know how to go beyond technology" She is very persuasive and a smart woman. She is just doing her job in Nintendo. Even Nintendo has employees loyalty.
Cammie just said Super Mario Galaxy wasn't a great game. JoePopeJoy you are just wrong. She also said that third party support will be better. Partnering up with Square Enix and Capcom. / SE: Dragon Quest IX Capcom: Monster Hunter Tri with a 500 point card and free online. More than 13 million motion plus. EA Tiger Woods and Wii Sports Resort. "It has an installed base"
Im glad nintendo is steping up its game for us and im also glad the rumor about sonic being in galaxy 2 has been squished
I think Cammie puts people off when she puts on the "young and hip" face at the big shows... but that's part of her job. When she's doing interviews she's professional and to-the-point and knows what she's talking about. Of course she wouldn't want to say anything negative about the company she works for... that's common sense
Nintendo i sin a unique position because they have the family appeal right now. But I guarantee most people who bought wii's for the exercise programs are barely using them at all now. If you want to survive in the long run you need to appeal to the hardcore gamer, and you need hardcore 3rd party support. The sad part is that Nintendo has many good 3rd party games but they are not as widely advertised as the xbox and ps3's 3rd party games. I've seen plenty tv commercials for Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2. Bioshock, Dante's Inferno, and God of War 3 but none of those games are on the wii. The wii needs to advertise their 3rd party hardcore games to draw in more hardcore gamers. It's the only way they will be competive in the long run.
I hate how Cammie can't acknowledge anything negative with nintendo, but redirects the questions to something more positive every time. At least admit nintendo has made some wrong turns in the past and elaborate to us how you're going to fix them in the future; such as getting more 3rd party support, not relying on big selling games for your income, and insure us a golden age for your company like the N64 era is coming back.
I think That for once nintendo is taking position, We've saw nintendo rise from it's ashes in the past years getting the place they deserved as an Iconic proof that games can crosses over generations. I think of them as "Paramount", MGM or similar movies studios and what they stand for today in the cinema industry. I'm getting close to 25 now and my nephews all know what Mario means as they know what James Bond means. Standing the test of time is hard for the growing game industry and Nintendo defend it's position, I liked what Cammie spoke about cause even if you don't think it's true for you, some won't get hold on all the others consoles accesories, either because their expensive or because the targeted audience already hold the wii. When compared to Nintendo few achieved the landmark standpoint that Nintendo gained over these years, keeping the same objective all the way: please their fans and gain access to large scale clientele. I Think of Nintendo as what will remains when everything else is gone. On a positive note, really happy to see that Zelda wii is building up.I sincerly hope to get to play it in a more resonable delay then Twilight princess. As for hardware, Wii Hd will have to support wii remote or be designed around the existing wii remote to build up on the existing audience. On the other hand I hope Nintendo will not lease on technical spec. cause it's the HD era (the hardcoregamer speaking!!) and omg Wii games look crappy on my HDTV
Metroid is looking really good. They've got some good games coming out. On the console side, I for one hope they release another console fairly soon. We'll see if that install base argument holds up this fall when motion control comes out on ps3 and 360. At some point the "innovative immersive experience" talk will not hold up, especially when Nintendo's competitors echo their innovation.
