The Secret World: Exclusive Blue Mountain Location Video
Take a first look at Blue Mountain--one of many locations in Funcom's upcoming MMOG, The Secret World.
Looking at these location trailers, I'm less interested in the game. It's less "The Secret World" than it is "The Secret in Plain Sight." I mean giant flesh-monsters and pools of black sludge attended by insects the size of ponies aren't exactly the sort of discrete and subtle things evoked by the words "secret society."...
You know what's going to be the best part of this (even if the only one) that would make the game worth playing? No kids, and fantasy fanbois from wow coming in to mess up the community and with the current SWOW:TOR and upcoming Pandaria on the horizon even less so. *High hopes!
You can never really judge a game by it's tailors.. but from what I see, it looks promising. Just hope the storyline stays interesting.
sad compared to what, every MMO is the same or worse. there's technical limitations involved in games of this scale it's not like a first person shooter(though even COD has low res graphics and they don't even have many people connected to a game) or a single player. you have to depend on others to advance in an MMO and no one's going to pay a subscription to be held back by people with low to medium spec PC's maybe Guild Wars 2 will be different but i wouldn't hold my breath that they won't have to make some kind of compromise to scale down some things before launch
Oh, how I wish I expected this to not be mediocre. Love the setting, and the fact that Funcom is taking a chance on an original genre for an MMO... but as has happened too many times, they appear to have gotten bogged down in what was acceptable years ago when they started, and haven't been able to evolve the visuals to keep up with the times. Kind of like Gods and Heroes -- had it come out years ago, it could have been pretty cool, but today it just looks sad.
lol i don't get all the people saying this would be an awesome singleplayer. i'm excited about this, but actually take a look at the gameplay, animations etc. it's crappy typical stuff that only passes in an MMO. much of everything else looks pretty top notch by singleplayer standards though. disregard the fact this is a global game and has many areas like London, New York etc and varying landscape & atmosphere, the strangest criticism is about the enemies. what MMO has not had monsters, zombies, ghosts? you don't think there's going to be stuff like wild animals as well? it's no different in that aspect than any other MMO ever made. i'm sure i sound like a fanboy but the gripes so far are pretty trivial if not baseless. if this game fails it'll be on combat mechanics, amount of content, or a bug ridden launch like some other Funcom MMOs
gosh this game keeps getting better and better but since i believe this is monthy sub i think SWTOR is gonna hold my attention for awhile ill wait for the reviews and then make my decision
this game has so many interesting settings... yet it's just as bad as any other current mmorpg (the beta was awful). still have to wait for world of darkness by ccp.
This game looks sooo good as far as lore and plot. I just hope the gameplay is half as new and fresh, and it will be a great game.
I have been following this game a long time. I hope this has a good release unlike what Funcom normally does. I hate horror but the elements that suppose to be throughout this game has me interested. I just don't know why people who want single player come here and say that. If was first or second video then I could understand but this is far beyond that. Why look and comment if that is what the comment is going to be. I am glad for this to be an MMO and really hoping the 3 factions add a lot of competition to figuring things out.
im really hyped for this game ive been waiting and watching from the start signed up for the beta hope i get in it looks amazing so far hope they keep it up and give us something spectacular
I don't know. I'm a bit fed up with the MMO concept. I was hoping SWTOR would deliver something fresh, but after playing it for a while it proved to be just as stale as any other theme-park mmo to me. The never ending re-spawning mobs, the courier missions, the pointless PvP without any consequences, the static world and so on. I'm getting ready for some true innovation. EVE does a lot correct. It's just that I'm tired of spaceship pew pew after 5 years playing the same game. BF3 had 64 players in huge zones. Maybe it's time to get our first proper FPS MMO. I think the tech can finally cope. Give us a dynamic world where players have total control over everything but the world physics. If you die there needs to be some form of consequence just to get the adrenaline pumping when you PvP. Have some limited resources players can fight over. Give us the option to build our own infrastructure which is more than just simple props. I doubt TSW will the innovative game that re-invents the genre. I hope though.
the settings and the whole idea of this game is what i always wanted from an mmo..i'm just a bit concerned about the battle. from what i see i'm a little dissappointed but it may actually feel a lot cooler than it looks so i guess i have to try it before i criticize
I'm not sure what this video is trying to accomplish. It's a survival horror, so far as I can tell. If it was an MMO, the avatars would be hopping up and down, have no pants on, or would be dancing. I have no idea how the game plays, find the animations of the characters stilted, and the idea of a horror MMO difficult to understand. How do you build atmosphere when you've got a prepubescent trying out every vulgarity in the language in chat?
from what I've seen from the gameplay trailers, this all looks like its made from the in-game stuff, so that's all what it looks like during actual gameplay. At least it's clearly not your generic korean mmo cg movie
That writing is amazing, the art direction looks fantastic as well, the gameplay LOOKS like it could be engaging, a combination of good gameplay mechanics and stuff you usually see in single player rpgs. imo this looks like the only mmo worth playing in a long time. Other mmo preview has only made go MEH especially when that you see the most of are just cg movies and then it comes out and it's another grindfest...
I am a sucker for MMOs. And I will surely try this out. Already signed up for Beta and will see if I get into it. I want it to succeed. Gameplay looks nice too (other video) but I think this game is not getting enough attention for it to succeed as a MMO :(.
If only this was a single player game. Every time I see new trailers, they remind me of Deus Ex with supernatural elements. That would be a great mix. As an MMO, I fear this great premise will only be surface deep, with everything underneath being just another generic MMO. I hope I'm wrong.
This looked pretty cool for the first 30 seconds, after that, it just looks stupid. A cool premise destroyed by MMO gameplay.
the setting, atmosphere etc look great but we all now that all these play a minor role in mmo's.Its all about addiction mechanics, and tons of content"carrot-on-a-stick" gameplay..You have to keep the no-lifers playing. They play 12 hours a day so you need tons of stuff.i want the secret world to succeed cause its something different
@Takemondu Reminds me nothing of Fallout New Vegas... you're blind. This coming from someone who played hours and hours of New Vegas. Haters will hate I guess. Whatever!
looks like a good one but seriously a quarry/dam and a casino is just too fallout new vegashish i dont c y an original rpg looking game like this would just use something other than a quarry and a casino
@scyldschefing Ants are hard to see. Wanna fight those?
