I believe this idea has potential, but i only see one way of not losing the 'elder scrolls feeling' in an MMO.

That is the introduction of a truly dynamic world in which the three factions will battle for supremacy. The world, its inhabitants and the relations between them would have to change drastically over time, affected by players' decisions, and the reactions of both AI and other players to those decisions.

If the world remains static, the feeling that *YOU* alone have the power to change the fate of the entire world (talk about epic) will not be present, therefore reducing the game to a typical MMO.

They should have just added a DLC for an online arena. Keeping the game offline with a PVP aspect for top level players to go head to head or all v all. That would be awesome and wouldn't compromise the offline mode. All in favour? Good... :p

They have to find a way that it doesn't feel as ''another'' MMO.

Wait... TESO is going to be an MMO? Screw that.

"people dont play theese games for the feel of hand to hand combat". we dont? thats one of the best parts of TES. you really feel like your in there doing stuff.

How about you finish repairing Skyrim first? i still get massive frame rat drop after few hours of play!!

@olegavi323 Or Maybe you should fix/get better parts for your PC. I never have framerate problems in Skyrim.

Love the Elder Scrolls.  Skyrim is my favorite game of all time, but I am really getting tired of every game company wanting their $15 per month fee.  I personally play games to get away from people; I get enough of that in my real life! I want a good storyline, fantasy world to get away from reality.

Yesss! looking forward to this. For me I love to play with other people, in fact I hate playing alone.

they should have made an mmo for darksouls where the only social crap u gonna do is through "death",  just few lines on the ground and nothing more and the only pvp u gonna have is invading other players world and beat the crap out of them XD

If they just improve the physics of the game a little more...

No No No! They will ruin the series! Graphics honestly suck! Same thing with Kotor - Star Wars

If only the elder scrolls online don't have that crappy cartooney graphics like so many other generic mmo games, than it might actually be good. With skyrim's graphics it would had been awesome...

No go for me. I only want to experience the Elder Scrolls in a first person single player way. Last thing I want to see in a game, especially one like an Elder Scrolls game, is more (real) people. I usually game to get away from people, not find more of them online.

Also seems no one (at least as far as I read) has brought up the frequency of hijacked mmo accounts. WoW has something where you can buy extra security which I think is a big slap in the face, they should have to provide the security for their website for their customers accounts that they keep to be safe.

Mmo's are fading a bit, yet there's still people trying to jump on the bandwagon at the last minute, failing to realize when you jump on sinking ship -it just sinks faster.

I hope they don't abandon the Single Player, but even if they don't, I still worry for it, it used to get all the attention, now it will probably play second fiddle. Skyrim is great, and I have fun with it and it's mods, but it wasn't able to dethrone Morrowind GOTY/mods as my favorite Elder Scrolls game, with this news article, it's sounding like it will never be dethroned.

Big game. Yet Oblivion had nearly all of the features already.

 To Evilmonkie3:

Well one way to not force players to choose sides is maybe to make it so, that even when one faction completely overtakes the world, the game stays fun for both factions. They can do this in many ways such as:

1.  Making new elements come up in the game for the winning faction.

2. Allow players to change factions whenever they want, meaning u can suddenly turn rogue or even into a spy if u wanted to, in order to annihilate ur faction from within or just to fight against a friend/rival in the same faction .

3.  Put a timer on the governing power of the winning faction, or even lower the power of their NPC guards over-time so that the other faction have an increased chance to fight back.

4. Allow players to change servers anytime and put out information on each server showing the % of land taken over by all factions, so players have a choice to move around.

About the small group thing, i think just making difficulty and rewards scale according to the number of players would be good enough. Having the game accommodate every group action and influencing the game world will be very difficult.

Does this mean they will not make another single player game and now direct all attention to maintaining a lame MMO? I hate this!

I hope this fails utterly and sends a message to any other developers thinking about selling out their franchise.

I hope this isn't the death of the Elder Scrolls single player games. Everyone wants to go to MMO because of one reason, money. It has nothing to do with anything else but money. What happens if it flops? I think game makers are getting lazy about making good single player games. Many of us don't want to pay a monthly fee to play a game and don't need to play with other people. Bear in mind the most popular games are FPS single player games like Black Ops, Skyrim, Call of Duty and Mass Effect 3. I'll be glad when 3D and MMO fads are gone for a while.

I do agree with Skyte87 in that having a teleportation system that takes you anywhere would severely harm the game. In WoW they allowed players to just teleport inside of instances, which made the game less fun since there was no longer any desire to explore the world, and also made the game way too easy. However, i feel like any kind of faction system within this game would probably make things worse, as it could make sides uneven, and force players to choose sides. I wuld propose a system that allows players to make groups of their own, like guilds, although to the point where they would be more closely knit, like a "band of thieves" or something. They should try and make a more intimate grouping experience for players, instead of balling them together in a huge mass of strangers.

Skyte87
Skyte87

just to continue with my idea below/on top:

5. Make it so that players can only fast-travel to major cities or towns and not dungeons, making travel on foot or on horse more important than eva. Tie this with a system where death teleports u to the nearest city, then this will create a small MMO where there will be endless fun just trying to claim hard-to-conquer dungeons against the other faction.

6. Maybe add in a currency earning system or ranking system to the factions in which ur contributions will be awarded: rewards might be cool looking armor and weapons, homes, unlockable skill/trait trainers, or even becoming the head of the faction.

Skyte87
Skyte87

Once a particular place comes under the opposing faction's rule or are being attacked, new quests will open up in ur own faction to 'notify' you of it (or maybe notices will pop up in the world) and u can decide to take it back, creating a real time large scale territorial war in the world. To keep this interesting however, they can maybe make it so that u CAN'T distinguish the other faction players on the outside, until u try to kill them :P

That means u might be chatting to this guy for hours and questing and having fun with him until u accidently slashed him with a sword and he found out he lost some health, meaning ur actually his enemy hahahaha, must be epic.

Well thats an idea that came on top of my head, i can really see the potential of a game like this. Ofc, there'd be need for a lot of tweaking and balancing, but i really want to play a game like Skyrim where ur free to explore and do whateva u want as well as encountering other players, but also having the potential to make friends with ur enemies. I really think that should be a TRUE free open ended MMO.

Pls feel free to comment on this idea :D

Skyte87
Skyte87

What they should do to make a Skyrim MMO or a Skyrim large scale co-op:

1. Make servers that houses a maximum of 50-100 players in a single open world like current Skyrim with total free exploration.

2. Keep same 1st/3rd person action combat, traits and skill up (no exp,no leveling)

3. Split the world into 2 big factions and ur free to join either one, becoming able to attack other real players in the opposing faction.

 4. While playing the game as usual, the quests u undertake and succeed in in ur own faction or ur exploration into enemy territory will NEGATIVELY affect the other faction and change the world in some way.

5. Make the dungeons the game able to become under the rule of either faction, or even some towns.

For example, completing a quest might make a particular dungeon come under the control of ur faction and thus leave NPCs guarding it. When the other faction players wish to complete a quest that requires that dungeon (or if they simply explore it), they'd have to 1st clear out the opposing faction's new guard NPCs making the dungeon 'neutral' and clean again(resetting the original monsters in it + clearing out the guards), then proceed to carry out the quest as normal. And once they complete the quest, the dungeon will fall under the rule of their own faction. Cycle can repeat indefinitely.

Come on guys, this will be good MMO.

As for TES series, do you really think that will ruin it? I'm 100% positive that there will be a new The Elder Scrolls 6 in coming years. This is not the end of single player game, only a new game.

Do not want. if I wanted other people getting in my way and stealing kids I would play guild wars or wow. I have supported elder scrolls since daggerfall but i aint buying this.

The world and lore is absolutely a good platform for a good Fantasy MMO, but if the end product isnt fantastic all the fans will dissapprove since Skyrim as it is is fantastic.

I love the elder scrolls series but I don't think they should make it MMO. Like c0m4ndo45 said (took the words right out of my mouth! Lol.), I think it should be cooperative, rather than massively multiplayer. It keeps that 'world changing effect' while giving the multiplayer feel, without so much as giving a bad feel to it like 1200 players standing in front of dragon's reach at Whiterun. Lol. For example, you find a nice daedric bow, and your friend is an archer. 'Here you go man! If you want, since I've been upgrading my enchanting and black smithing, I can really improve that for you.' I think that keeps it on a more personal level. Open world and changing like borderlands mixed with Fable, only more vast, open, and not so railed on one specific story, keeping the side quests and what not. Like two of your buddies are trying to find dwarven cogs for a guy on one side of the map, while you're over with another friend killing a dragon/mini boss. Just my opinion. Nothing against MMO Fans. (I play MMO's myself.)

c0m4ndo45

They should have made it 4 player coop like borderlands. Would work best.

Great Idea for those who like MMOs but to those that enjoy the single player experience having access to all the lands of Tamriel would be what they have been waiting for. I think the co-op version that people mention would be the best allowing up to 3 friends to import their characters in to your game world with the legion and guilds having quests that are only available when you have a friend with you.

Is it just me or do the screen shots not make you at all think of Elder Scrolls, Nothing in those images, not the armour, weapons or look or the world reminds me of the elder scrolls which is troublesome because it will probably lose its identity of the series in this specific title.

I feel most franchise are coping out and just deciding that the best way to milk their series is to create an MMO and I understand this has been in the making for years now but you just know its not going feel like an Elder Scrolls game.

I'm negative, as you can tell about this but I do wish it success if it can manage it.

they day this game is released, and people begin logging into the servers, is the day it ceases to be an "elder scrolls" game. Mark my words... this game WILL be a disaster.

I just don't see how it would feel like a true Elder Scrolls game with that many people in the game world. Skyrim with 2-player co-op would be great, but this... I'm not too sure.
