The Point - Should I Buy Pokemon?
Danny enlists the help of the GameSpot UK office to solve his quandary over whether or not to hop on the Pokemon bandwagon.
The episode was fine Danny, I really liked the part where you referred to playing with your Gamespot UK friends at the end, that was sweet :).
Please make a show on Gamespot called "Is it a Pokemon?" and just throw out random names of Pokemon and non-Pokemon to Cam to see if he can guess right.
I would watch this show until my eyes bled....
Good luck with the move Danny, I think GameSpot US could really use you. I hope you and Seb can still manage to do some GTA online shenanigans!
I'm about the same age as @dannyodwyer - Many of his references are from games/shows i've played or enjoy (as is the case with many of the people who watch him)
He and everyone creating output for Gamespot UK cover the entire gamut of what gaming is. It's stupid, meaningful, pointless and important. A waste of time and time well spent. I'm glad that they are all able to offer a critique and define the purpose of gaming as eloquently and (often) as bluntly as they do (although I would like to see Johnny employ some extra muscle and someone who can track IP's and just go door to door). Thoughtful ideas relative to a personal hobby can be hard to come by. They are the arm-bands of sense and reasoning that barely keep us from drowning in the suspiciously tangy waters of the public bath. We need more of this. May it long continue.
He will only be an internet away but, that said, I am sad to see Danny move to the webpage next door. I can't tell you why it makes me sad as I've never met the guy and he'll still be on the internet where i've always found him - Hopefully someone will make a video to explain this to me.
I wish you Good luck - I can't wait for the first episode of your next new show "Dirty Danny" (format tbc)
And if it all falls apart remember: Theres always money in the Banana Stand.
I don't like where this is going. First Danny leaves Ireland, then Europe. Logically, the next step is to leave Earth. I won't have that Danny, I just won't!!!
For the record, I find any adult person that's plays Pokemon to be very introverted and creepy. However fun it may seem, any grown up shouldn't be playing a challenging game for 10 year old kids.
Man what a great episode, I like how you tied in the nostalgia of pokem with your soon to be old friends at the end there. Congrats on the new job, and don't let the guys in the states change your style.
Good luck in the new position at Gamespot US but for the love of god please keep your irish accent and keep being awesome!
@dannyodwyer Good luck in San Fran, Danny!
Sounds like disgeae in a nut shell for me I love the series the storylines are always weird but I feel compelled to getv every character in each game its a obsession sadly.
Great job, Danny. I was faced with the same question, and I bit on Pokemon Y. I'm very disappointed that I didn't do my own research & just listened to recommendations, because I wouldn't have gotten it. The sole reason is because ONLY the battles are in 3D (and the framerate chugs, even then). For fans, it's probably not an issue, but the only reason I have a 3DS is because of the 3D. If 80% of the game doesn't use the feature that the system was built around, and sold me on it, I feel the developer was lazy, rushed, or not talented (as every one of the 18 3DS carts I own, and 20+ E-Shop games, are all in acceptable levels of 3D...in their entirety).
I can only think....what could have been. This would be great if it were entirely in 3D. I have never like handhelds. The GameBoy was the only one I ever owned. I have a nice PC, all home consoles, and the only thing I can't do on those is play in 3D (and I like it in the smaller size, too. I don't want a huge 3DTV). Gamefreek/Nintendo could have had a loyal customer on their side, but now I will stay far away from lazy developers (which I had heard was the case, anyway, since every game was the same game, in concept).
I feel weird with all the hype on Pokémon again. Last time I saw people freaking out this much with Pokémon was back in the Emerald days (the last version that got me interested). Still love G/S/C. Oh, the good old days...
i thought this was best ep of th epoint so far. its funny u can go from a agenda ridden ep to this great ep. btw mt stupid needs to come back. like the history of game freak
for me its not nostalgia y i still play pokemon. its the gameplay that is almost the deepest game out there. and the fun. and i have so much knowledge i cant let go
blue was my first pokemon game and i think i chose charmander. but i spent more time on yellow then blue
what how have u not played any pokemon games? ive played every gen and still no sign of stopping. man ur child hood would of been sad and missing something. i wonder how it would feel playing pokemon for the first time. i have so much knowledge of everything pokemon more then maths and english. i know sad but was my fav subject
@123abckatyperry Get Y lol
@UpInSmoke0803 tRULY THATS A GREAT IDEA
@shreddyz They're rated "E" for "everyone" for a reason. :P They are made for all ages. There's a great deal of depth to the games that I doubt most kids would be able to fully understand or even know about. There are also quite a few adult references throughout the games that kids won't get.
You are never too old to have fun and "you are too old" accusations are nothing but repression based on baseless, repressive social pressure.
@MegaMark1991 I think so. Seems it. Some more than others.
Yeah, look at all those children in the video playing Pokemon, oh wait, they're adults.
Indeed, absolutely NOTHING different except for different types of battles, Pokemon Amie, Super Training, much improved online, StreetPass features which greatly improve social interaction with other players, being able to customize your character, a new element, and mega-evolutions. Yep, absolutely NOTHING different, oh and it's fully in 3D now.
If that qualifies as absolutely nothing different than should I buy the next KillZone? Or the next Halo? Or pretty much the next new entry of any franchise?
@maitkarro eh wait, i dont understand, am i in gamespot asia then? is it any difference?
