The Point - Most Anticipated Games of 2014
Danny celebrates the new year by listing the top five games he's most looking forward to in 2014 in no particular order.
by Danny O'Dwyer on
Shooting games are fun but generic but there will definitely be some noteworthy video games this year.
i have lost interest in watch dogs since ubisoft push it back. Watch dogs was the only reason for me to buy PS4 but now my eyes are on Division for next-gen plus Persona 5.
Oh..Danny boy, great video!.
I'm an old time gamer(but not yet 50..lol) , so each Jan and Feb. i replay the 11 games it tested(in house or gold discs before public beta's). Going back to Redneck Rampage is just plain hillarious, playing Killing Time for the 20th yr straight(it was released in Sept. 95') and loving it(even if the frame rate so often crawls at under 15fps) and all the way back to the only freelance game i ever finished(for the C64 using raster interrupts to get a whopping 64! sprites on screen..lol) that was turned down because of the storyline but this one company used my graphics 'tricks' later on(legal or not), to Vampires: Bloodline..ect. It all brings back memories and makes me appreciate living through Pong to BF4/Crysis3/KZ:SF..ect.
I used to go back to Wing Commander each winter I until Doom1/Quake1/Unreal1 but since 2003 i have been going back over and over on game that was so ahead of it's time, with it's attention to detail.
That game is Shenmue 1 and 2(japanesse version of 2 was the far better #2).
Before there was GTA3 there was Shenmue and iv'e still never seen such attention to details, including the current amazing 'worlds' of say GTA:V.
One last thing, when i'm playing say UT or Quake 2 or the Wing Commander series or Space Quest or Duke Nukem(or even ROTT) it reminds me of when games were just an addicting blast, of which i cannot quite say that of the this past generation.
It's funny to me to not see anyone saying "Call of Duty" or "Battlefield", all while knowing good and well the next iterations of those games will be released sometime this year and will sell really really well regardless...
I feel like every time Gamespot does these "Most Anticipated" lists, it becomes an arena for pissing contests.
DK Trop Freeze/Mario Kart 8/Smash brothers/ Halo 5/ Titanfall those are the games im buying next year. possible more! my 5
Dark Souls 2 and Pillars of Eternity (fingers crossed) are probably my most anticipated games of 2014. Many others as well, but those two stand above all others for me.
I'm excited for:
No Man's Sky
Camelot Unchained (if they can pull off a modern incarnation of the goodness that was DAoC they will win the interwebz)
Homeworld: Shipbreakers (Homeworld is the greatest Space RTS ever made and this game looks like its shaping up to be better than the original)
TECHNICALLY Year of Luigi was kicked off with Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, so its not over until March 2014.
There's a ton of great games we all cant wait for. As of right now, we got Tomb Raider HD in january, and both Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare are coming in Febuary which i personally am excited for. Especially DK as they brought back David Wise and fixed some of the problems of the original like having to shake to roll
My top 5:
Bravely Default - yes, I know you Euros already have it, but it's kinda big deal over here since we have to wait til February.
Monolith Soft's X - Really surprised Danny didn't mention this considering all signs point to it being a persistent online open-world sci-fi mecha JRPG. Plus the online co-op, which seems to be very apparent through the trailers.
Super Smash Bros. 3DS/WiiU - I don't to say anything.
Watch Dogs - ready for hacking open-world goodness
The Division - if my comments about X weren't enough...ONILNE CO-OP!!!!!!!!!!
And, of course there are other games that excite me as well like Bayonetta 2 and DKCR:TF, those five are easily my most anticipated.
Grand theft auto
Most Anticipated games of 2014 are in order of most to least:
Deep Down - Check this one out, the name may change at some point.
Mad Max - Big fan of the movies, and I love this genre in games, BL, FO, Rage.
The Witcher 3 - Looks fantastic, friends say it's a must, haven't actually played 1 or 2.
Wofenstein the New Order - I don't want was more epic being introduced to this game, or actually finishing it, I loved shooting Nazis, wandering mazes, and finding secret caches.
Destiny - Not a big fan of Halo, but this game looks like something I want to pay oh so badly.
The Order 1886 - This game keep teetering on moderate or high desire to play, I'm willing to take a chance on it, here is hoping for the best.
Dragon Age Inquisition - I haven't play any of the earlier games but I was sorely tempted.
Thief - I haven't played the original and have regretted ever since, but I will try this one.
inFamous Second Son - Yet another game series I didn't play but mutant rebel sound fun.
Watch Dogs - I want to say this looks fun, but my gamer sense tells me it will get old fast, and largely disappoint.
Titan Fall - This game looks intriguing but I only have a moderate desire to play it.
Elder Scrolls Online - I love the ES but not sure how I feel about another MMO, most of the ones I played were disappointments overall. I generally prefer Co-op to MMOs these days.
It looks like there will be a lot of fun games this year. Titanfall, Infamous, Rainbow Six (hopefully), Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Division, MGS 5, and The Order: 1886.
Dont have a PS4 or Xbone yet, and probably not gonna get em cause they are more like cheap PC's and lost focus on what a gaming console is. The Wii U is imo the closest you can get to a 'real' gameconsole this generation (and sure, go ahead and make fun of that). Gone are the days where you would get a full game in the box that you popped in and played, no day 1 updates or patches needed, no cut content they offer as DLC later on, no 24/7 online requirements, no spying eye in your living room, just play the game. Some games look great and I will hate missing out on them, but for now my Wii U and Xbox 360 are more then enuff.
I want the infamous, new naughty dog games, rockstar games, destiny, the division, mgs phantom pain. Not sure what I feel about watchdogs, hyped died for me, hope they it turns out good though.
I want PS4 port of Last of Us and GTA V please :D
Division is my most anticipated as well and I agree that it will probably get pushed to a 2015 release.
the beat for this ep is also dope as well haha
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is on my list for sure - glorified demo or not, I'm going to play the hell out of that game. I may even grab a digital copy of the PS3 version too, just to A/B the PS3/PS4 differences in the fox engine.
If you'r going to write "Danny celebrates the new year by listing the top five games he's most looking forward to in 2014 in no particular order," then put
"The Point - Most Anticipated Games of DANNY, 2014" in the title..... unless it's just really your goal to majorly piss everyone off by excluding, oh, say: Thief, MGS, etc. and including only YOUR picks in the list of Most Anticipated like some self-centered ass-monkey.
(In case you didn't get what I meant, It's the same as telling us that your picks are what we anticipate the most, or that ours don't matter)
@quakke no point of being original if you just friggin want it. But I want The Evil within.
If Destiny has Vehicles, I'm hype for it. Who am I kidding, I'm getting it either way. Crossing my fingers for vehicles.
@Bugermeister until play my recommendations
@Gamer_4_FunGTAV will definitely be ported :). Last of Us is very unlikely
@jimdotbeep pretty much, yes. I've had enough of SSB with 10 mins of it's Melee iteration. I won the match, btw.
@Haaggus I have a replica of Gandalf's staff from lord of the rings, its bigger than GS's.
@DigiRave Or you could listen to the first line of the video and CHILL THE HLL OUT.
@DigiRave Is that really "LMAO!!!!" funny?
I'd say if you're going to point it out, it's small chuckle worthy at best... maybe a lower case "lol" with no exclamation points?
No, somebody at Naughty Dog recently said "we'll see" on playstation blog when asked if there would be a PS4 Last of Us port. So it's more than likely.
Please Gamespot, bring back the option to thumbs down vote comments so we can down vote DigiRave back to the Stone Age.
@grey_fox1984 @DigiRave I think I'm the one who decides that, and I decide that "LMAO!!!" works perfectly for me.
