The Gist - 5 Things That Are Keeping Gran Turismo 6 Fresh
Gran Turismo 6 is set apart from most of this season's major driving games in that it's landing on last-gen but Jess susses out five reasons why the popular racer may still be worthy of your holiday time and moneys.

I have to admit, as someone who no longer owns a 360 I have always had envy for the Forza series as I have felt that Gran Turismo has simply been struggling to keep up. Forza is so accessible to people like me (who fail at racing sims), but there is some kind of altruistic appeal to Gran Turismo. This is perhaps due in part to the fact that the first racing sim I ever tried was Gran Turismo 2 for the PlayStation, and I really loved that game (despite how much I struggled in playing it).
There was simply something appealing to me about starting the game with my choice of underwhelming car and working my way toward... well, I never really quite worked my way above the "less than underwhelming" grade of vehicles, though I did take a Dodge Viper out for a spin once.
All this to say, is that what this latest entry in the franchise is like, or is it simply a sim for people with more refined tastes?
I love that people are comparing a next gen game to a game designed on a 7 year old platform. Obviously Forza is going to look better.
I just don't find GT to be fresh and inspiring at all - looks dated.
Definitely should have been shelved at least for next gen but with Forza blowing everything out of the water at the moment, Polyphony have a mountain to climb and at the snails pace that studio works at, I don't think we'll be seeing anything solid for at least a couple of years - seriously.
Jess' reasoning in six steps 1. It's Sony 2. Sony pays me 3. I only know Snoy 4. Xbox gaming is too difficult for me 5. Sony kids like my shirts 6. SonySpot pays me
I always loved gran turismo but Christ almighty GT6 looks truly awful. Like seriously was it secretly developed on the PS2? Like yeah 1200 cars and many tracks is great but having such terrible visuals + laughable audio + outdated physics system = not good, polyphony. Or maybe I'm too used to Forza 4 and Forza 5?
I dunno why it doesn't deserve it. Why did the creator of GT get a street named after him and why did the game get a street named after it?
I was pretty disappointed with the look of everything, I just watched a trailer on IGN and it looks pretty sad considering our current technology state
The one GT i didnt rush out and buy Day 1.... maybe next year... or maybe not... it doesnt grab me like the others..
Love Jesse to death, but this weekly show is dull and redundant. It's a top 5 list of completely random things and has no clear theme. We already have a similar show that is very well done and its called The Point. I'd rather see a show that Jesse pitches herself that shows a bit more of her personality (like Danny or Johnny do in their segments) and interests. Thus far we know nothing about her since all she does is read the news.
I'm a gearhead and gamer but have to admit I haven't touched a driving sim since getting bit. I bought an F1 sim 5 years ago for my pc. After many hours of frustration I realized I'd have to buy another $200 worth of peripherals to even make a dent in the skill curve. Hence my impression is the games are either arcade-like or ridiculously overcomplicated (F1). I've never played Gran Turismo though.
why they are focusing at her mouth?aha cuz its look like <3 hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
not funny -.-.
I mean full stop.
I've never played a Gran Turismo game before and from what I've heard so far this doesn't sound like the best entry to get me introduced to the series. I'm thinking I'll just wait until GT7 comes out on PS4.
She's beautiful, sweet, and cute. And, she's giving us the low down about games. The brain can only take so much amazing at once.
Hmm I've gotten the word gist incorrectly wrong because I usually think its spelt 'jist'. Now I hope this show will forever remind me of the right way to spell it :)
The last racing car game I played was NFS Underground 2. Soo I'm pretty outdated with all this.
I got this game and it looks horrible almost scary. It gave me nightmares and I'm mad i can't take it back. Very disappointed because it had some good ideas but the game does so much it sacrifice the visuals.
Won't mind it landing on last gen as long as it has more premium models. Everything else sounds pretty cool too.
awww so if we were gonna go out would we take your kaaaa or my kaaaa im sorry your a cutie had to tease u a bit hahaha
Congratulations on the 2nd episode! I've never played Gran Turismo, but it's one of those games I've always wanted to try.
@sunyatanada76 It also looks like she didn't put lipstick on her upper lip while the bottom has plenty lol. I wonder if I'm the only one who noticed
@Raged4Life Forza still has that video game look about it. I like how GT can in some screenshots be mistaken for real life.
http://gt6topspeed.tumblr.com/I think it looks pretty amazing.
@BuzzLiteBeer disagree. Long time GT fan
@BuzzLiteBeer I did pitch this show myself and the topics each week are things I find interesting that I think will interest viewers.
@tempertress @BuzzLiteBeer Didn't expect you to actually read comments! Well, at least you pitched and wrote the show. I feel like you remain very neutral when talking about things that you are interested in leaving me with the feeling that it was written for you by someone else. Danny is very clear about his preferences and opinions while you seem to maintain a journalistic neutrality.
@BuzzLiteBeer @tempertress I'd have to agree that while I like you a lot Jess and you do the news quite well, this show just seems extremely sterile. I'm also struggling to find the identity of The Gist in that one week it was a list of pro's and con's about the new consoles and this week it's a press-release bullet point reading of GT6 features. Excuse the awful pun but what IS the gist of these videos? Like my fellow commentator above I'd love for you to get into some topics and simply discuss them, much like you do on your YouTube videos. I know that sounds a lot like what Danny is doing and his show is really excellent, but I'm sure you could find your own unique spin on it that doesn't feel quite as droll and rudimentary.
