The Gist - 5 Awesome Games Of 2013 You Probably Didn't Play
Given January is traditionally light on games worth playing, Jess has you set up with a look back into some of the underplayed and underrated great games of last year.

First of all, nice shoulders! My favourite game of 2013 I suppose it's The Last Of Us. At the same time I found it extremely boring and overrated. But it's the only 2013 game I played, so that makes it candidate for all categories. :P
Jess Mcdonell, we the NARUTO FANS are ecstatic that you had the Naruto Poster on the wall! I used to have that exact one too. Please use a different Naruto Poster. Now that I think about it, you can use the interesting posters as a motif on your show. Not sure if that was the case before, but at least I noticed it now with the Kakashi and his dogs on the Naruto Poster. I want to see Madara on your next show!!!
Puppeteer looks interesting. I've never even heard of it until now.
I will definitely be picking up a copy.
Great show, Jess!
Almost got Don't Starve recently but realized it didn't have coop..... I don't really have time for another minecraft/ Terraria type game if I can't play with my friends
It's funny, and I'll admit not just a little fetching, to see you wearing tank tops as it is the dead of winter here in the States. I forget that your seasons are basically opposite our own. Must be hot over there. I always love your vids, keep it up! And since I never played Brothers, thank you also for making me spend more money...
Lol. William Cajina "raised the video game industry standards" ??? Are you serious? What exactly was so revolutinary and industry changing about a ps4? Its an over priced under powered turd. You can buy a better laptop for the same price. Haha. And the controller is a bigger turd. Nothing will utilize the touchpad.... it's a joke. You spewed that garbage like a true fanboy.
Guacamelee is a steal for $15 and really is the embodiment of the term "Metroidvania".
Puppeteer is a classic that should be in every gamer's library. It may look cutesy and aimed at kids but it's reasonably challenging and a lot of fun. There are enough extras hidden within the stages to give it great replay value. For that matter Rayman Legends fits the same description.
The Swapper, oh wow. I am so glad you mentioned the game imbalance, but I cannot quite stress how quickly the game moves from "Ah, this is a neat little puzzle" to mind-bending difficulty and then back again... and then back again.
Not saying it's a bad game, but a hard one to play for any prolonged length of time (much like Antichamber).
What proof? 3 Milion people would seem to disagree. While the PS4 will more than likely sell more the gap will not be as large as many predicted.
Damnit. I came for an article and got a video. It's just so much easier to skim the bullshit in an article. And then there's the ADD thing.
I feel that the Wii U has sold enough systems that Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 could have made this list. Those games were both excellent.
Finally an article on GS that actually talks about some games from 2013 worthy of some real praise. I had all of these minus Puppeteer on my potential GOTY list.
Also worthy of mention IMHO are:
Ni No Kuni
Monster Hunter 3 Ult
I give puppeteer and Guacamelee two thumbs way up! Don't Starve infuriated me, I no longer have the patience for such difficult games. I should give Brother and maybe the Swapper a try.
Antichamber! Definitely feel like it was overlooked, but isn't exactly the most accessible game. The subtle 'story' elements really hit home, too. <3
I played Don't Starve but kept dying :( Loved the art style though. Like if Tim Burton made a video game.
Really want to play Guacamelee, Brothers, and The Swapper now though
Got Brothers bookmarked until my list of purchased but not yet played games (including Swapper) diminishes. Puppeteer was fun, but didn't leave much of an impression.
Is that a parody shirt for the watchmen/super mario? love the shirt though. Really cool games as well. That is what the shirt looks like to me, the Comedian from the watchmen's smiley face with blood on it changed to a classic mario mushroom.
I need that shirt. Where do all you British Gamespotters buy your shirts cuz between you, Danneh, or Jonneh you all give me a bad case of t-shirt envy
Jess, not a bad segment but whoever is telling you to show more and more skin is not looking out for your best interest.
just for the people that thinks it's obvious, we Mexicans do not wear masks, sombreros or zarapes. we sometimes wear skeleton suits, but not when it's cold. there are no talking stone heads beyond the south and we are not full luchadores if we don't wear a 30 inch wide belt.
we don't listen to mariachi and don't travel in donkeys and horses also pay parking tickets. we don't live in cantinas. well, i do, but chickens stay outside. and we do not live from cerveza an tequila, we also eat tacos but taco bell's tacos are not actually tacos.
we don't eat everything with what you know as cheese, only cheese hamburgers at macdonalds (yes, there are some macdonald's here) but we do sprikle cheese all over the food. strawberries taste specially good with cheese. we don't eat nachos, but we eat burritos, i love chocolate burritos.
but something i don't like is guacamele being called mexican, because a stormtrooper is more mexican than guacamele.
as an extra, the music on feedbackula is not mexican either.
hell i wear boots instead of sandals, i must be less mexican than i think.
Guess I'm from gamespot....now I want to know why they aren't sending me checks.
@uglypinkmooseYou can make friends with the pig people in the game, if that's any consolation.
The game also has perma-death and is heavily biased away from letting you reach a steady state (the hound attacks just keep on getting worse the longer you play), which would be hard to reconcile with multi-player.
@uglypinkmoose There is actually a co-op mod available!
@kris912 Yeah, that game didn't get any attention at all.
@tightwad34you are a punk that doesn't like to see the beauty, the sweetness, and the luster, that is, Jess McDonell. Get outta here!
@Maverick6585 Tim Burton = no thanks. I don't like his dark dreary style. But that's just me. I guess I could sum it up by saying it kind of depresses me.
@ziproy She answers that in one of her Youtube videos. Now go watch those
@Stabba_The_Kutt Is hot in the southern hemisphere! I'm wearing a sleeveless t-shirt right now.
@ZombieGuyGeorgedeal with it mate, stereotypical portrayal of black people and muslims is no longer acceptable, and russians became somewhat boring. So Mexicans is the only choice
@ZombieGuyGeorge Yeah cuz a cartoon platformer was shooting for a realistic portrayal of Mexico
@ZombieGuyGeorge Ummm, dude I don't know exactly what stereotypes you've been hearing about Mexicans, but none of the ones you listed are the ones that people are actually saying. The ones people are actually saying are considerably more offensive.
@ZombieGuyGeorge And Canadians don't all live in igloo's and go to work on snowmobiles. Welcome to the wonderful world of stereotypes. Btw your people have a wonderful ,vibrant culture none the less.
@jamesh-42 yeah I'm aware some of the game mechanics would need to be tinkered with.... I guess that's why they don't have online multiplayer to begin with but it is a shame.
@spandorf yeah but I think it's only for local coop
@nayce54 What? I hope you are joking. Where did I say anything like that? She is certainly an attractive woman, but not the hottest out there, although she does seem to be a nice, down to earth person and that goes a long way with me. I cannot stand stuck up bitches who use their "looks" to get what they want. Pure evil if you ask me.
@games2525@ZombieGuyGeorge in the Olympics, people brought camping tents and bottled water, they didn't know we had hotels and drinkable water. they also brought life insurance against bandidos and brought extra cars in case pancho villa simpatizers stole them.
funny thing, pancho villa is actually a historical hero in my country, and I live right in front of a monument to him.
@ZombieGuyGeorge you shouldn't feel bad about these things. nobody (except stupid people) believe that Mexicans tryly are like this...
@ziproy btw, just brought despicable me and mexicans are not salsa dancers. crunchy sombreros with guacamole on top were actually invented by gringos. also, we don't actually make a party on 5 de mayo on dead people, but the battle of puebla. day of the dead is november the 2nd. piñatas and ponche are actually christmas related. it's just that every depiction of a mexican beyond the border actually gives me mixed feelings of sadness and shame.
