@randleel82 Ok, ok. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas were both made from an engine from 2006, which pretty much makes them last gen games. I know Vegas was rather recent, but it will be the last game developed with that sense of gameplay. But you could just as easily state that its a current gen game for various reasons, but I happen to feel like its a last gen. When he says that Skyrim is going to handle like Fallout, he means don't expect everything to change suddenly from our last game. Fallout handled like Oblivion, so really he just means the feeling they go for has not changed much. So when I said Skyrim has nothing to do with Fallout, I was talking about it in a graphical sense, gameplay sense, and universe sense. Sure the handling is similar but its going to be more like Oblivion. And I don't think Fallout reflects all of Oblivion's greatness, but it was still good. I have also been having second thoughts about this game lately, I just keep seeing stuff that's not as impressive as I'd hoped for, but nevertheless I know it will be a great game because Bethesda have never let anyone down before, except for haters like you that have ADD and can't get immersed worth a crap, except for getting addicted to COD. And finally, I know my ratings are ridiculous, and they will continue to be ridiculous, and I explain perfectly why (unless I'm wrong, then please tell me) in one of my poorly written blogs. Do sedanya!

@JonathanGudeman i realize this is a last post but your answers to my post bug me. so a couple of questions and observations. sorry if i offend you. 1. how are fallout 3 and new vegas last gen games? 2. how does fallout have nothing to do with skyrim, when in this interview he states they are going to handle this game a lot like fallout? 3. how can you talk like you know whether a game is going to be good or not? here is the link to your game ratings page and its ridiculous. http://www.gamespot.com/users/JonathanGudeman/contributions?mode=ratings&tag=my-ratings%3Bheader%3Bmore

@sodiumpentathol You must be completely missing my point. Do you know what it means to grind? I am saying grinding is the biggest thing about some RPGs and MMORPGs that must be destroyed.

sodiumpentathol
sodiumpentathol

@CommonFable Yeah, I'm sure you talked your way through enemies, and skills and perks are just a major inconvenience to you. Why even bother playing an RPG..

CommonFable
CommonFable

@sodiumpentathol I never once had to grind killing enemies in Oblivion to continue the story and that made it a lot less boring.

sodiumpentathol
sodiumpentathol

@CommonFable What's your point? You'll be forced to level grind anyway. You rather grind for void? Is that what you're saying?

JonathanGudeman
JonathanGudeman

@TheoleDominion Uhhhhhhhhhh, I have no idea. I never get deeper than just making crappy potions and using fireballs with magic, so I can't help you on that one.

TheoleDominion

@JonathanGudeman - Thanks appreciate the info, I'm currently playing through Oblivion now (second play-through) I check up north to the location you're referring to. One other question, regarding Absorb magic, the guide booklet states that "changes to Magicka, Health, and Fatigue". What specifically does this mean?

CommonFable
CommonFable

@sodiumpentathol yes because every one enjoys level grinding to access areas they want to explore....

"The joy of leveling up is picking a perk"? No, not really, Tod! The joy of leveling up is so your character becomes stronger/better and don't have to combat ants like they're bosses.. Not collecting perks. But I guess you can't say that when enemies scale to your level, since it won't allow your character to feel any stronger/better anyway. Enemy scaling ruins any sense of accomplishment within a RPG.

Oblivion was awesome and this looks even better. Can't wait.

Hopefully they have lots of assassination moves that varies with the character type.

@TheoleDominion. In Oblivion, you get to see one of then in The Ultimate Heist, and it looks like Mankar Camoran Book for Paradise. It took off the magic from Nocturnal Helmet that made everyone forget how the Gray Fox was, even his wife, Countess of Anvil.

@randleel82 The 3 games you mentioned were all last gen games. And lets just leave Fallout out of this, because they don't have anything to do with Skyrim. Oblivion was one of the original games to be released on Xbox 360, which was 2006. Bethesda had nearly twice the content made thats in the final Oblivion. They had to cut months of work out, because the game was so massive. It was definitely a miracle that it actually worked. So yes when you push an engine to its limits, you cant always get perfect results. But now, 5 years later, they made a new engine. And its going to kick ass. Every game has its flaws, but the important thing is what makes them good.

@TheoleDominion The Elder Scrolls are a bunch of scrolls, with nothing written on them. A group called the Elder Council (or something like that) takes care of these scrolls. You don't ever see much of them, especially in Oblivion, but even in the trailer for Skyrim you hear about them. All the people who read the Scrolls, have to be blind. Thats why they're magic. Only the blind can see whats not there, it makes perfect sense! The Scrolls predict the future, that's why they say in the trailer "The Elder Scrolls told of their return". If you want to actually explore one of the places they do this stuff. Fire up Oblivion, and go pretty much North East as far as yo can, and you'll see a place called "Brothers of the Moth Temple" or something like that. Make sure you get into the building thats locked, there will be many surprises.

@eagles_band - I think that's done on purpose, the interviewer is not suppose to outshine the person they're interviewing. The focus should be on the guest, not the person who's giving the interview, this is not "SportsCenter" on ESPN. And I'm thankful of that.

TheoleDominion

I love the series, but one thing I've always wondered. What are the "elder scrolls" each game refers to? It's just hit me and I thought someone may be able to shed some light on these "ancient scrolls" that never seems to factor in the plot or otherwise in any of the games.

Seriously gamespot...you guys gotta get some more entertaining/people friendly editors. Every interview I watch here is just so awkward and scripted.

Extreme124
Extreme124

Such an awkward interview. The interviewer looked like he was reading a prompt screen and it looked very scripted and not natural...though when the interviewer said "2 more questions left" the dev glowed as in "Thank f*ck this guy is such a plonker"

asvestimix
asvestimix

I think it will be much better with tessellation and proper lighting that they can get from directx 11 , also the enemies should be all the time the same level and not to get stronger as you get, if they want to make it interesting they should put some super strong bosses that shouldn't do unless you are really strong and a good player

@ 3:53 The series is lost forever!!! Fallout started out as an Oblivion spin off with guns and was futuristic. Now Elder Scrolls is a Fallout spin off! Oblivion was garbage compared to Morrowind. Stop catering to the casuals and mainstream gamers. No sense of pride :/.

Rat_King

@talshiaar Just want to say it's good to see another TES mod supporter. That Naz dude is total fail, and so are all the people that thumbs down'd your comment. If any of you Elder Scrolls PC users out there haven't tried mods...do it. Example: One save I have in Oblivion takes place in an underground cavern where a pretty much invincible dragon lives. In the back is a small area with piles of gems and gold, expensive armor and weapons and a huge treasure chest. Another mod I have let's me summon a balrog that is also near invincible as well as hundreds of other totally awesome spells, such as one to let me summon an army of goblins and an army of vikings with 12 each. Thus, I have an incredibly epic scene of a massive dragon fighting a balrog in the middle of vikings and goblins waging war around their feet. Occasionally I'll also use an earthquake or a tidal wave or a rock fall, or even summon my patronus. And that's only two mods, there are hundreds out there.

Rat_King

Awesome video. Seriously cannot wait, especially for the mods. One thing though...this reporter. I think he was given a job a little too big for him to handle. Just seemed nervous, kind of boring, decent questions but not always a great delivery, sometimes even sounding uninterested or forced. If he reads this just know I'm offering constructive criticism here that I think you should consider. Just sayin'...
