Bohemia Interactive are going to SPACE! Project lead Martin Melicharek speaks to our resident science fanatic Cam and shows off their new Mars rover simulator.
Did you enjoy this video?
Oh man I'm not normally a big simulation fan but this is something I could get into easily!
Be great if they update it in real time as NASA and the other space agencies land/crash stuff onto it!
Perhaps if that annoying background music wasn't playing whilst the guy is trying to talk he wouldn't have to hold the mic so close! haha!!
This looks good, its definitely on my Steam wishlist.
As one of the Mars One applicants I'd really like to get my hands on it! It would give me a chance to experiment with the physics of the planet and check out possible landing zones before hand. That being said I wonder just how accurate it is?
WOW! :) ...This is great! Hope developers support it forever and add new content like other planets or moons and such! Community would be awesome too, if mods are taken seriously! :)
This looks awesome! No it's not action packed, it's discovery and that is thought provoking. Completely unique sim, way to go Bohemia.
Anyone know a good simulation game where you build in space like simcity ? I would even take a command and conquer like game.
Day one buy for me.
What's more boring than watching grass grow? Watching grass not grow.
Europe Space Agency is developing something similair, its for education purposes for future astronauts and motivated people.
Where are the zambies? I'll have to wait for MarZ i guess.
Very interesting :)
John Madden! John Madden! John Madden!
That's what boring looks like
This is amazing.
that car with the machine gun on top looks mad warfare on this game with cars would be sick and the lil mini robots like lil spies and assassins haha
Everyone complained about the MAKO in the Mass Effect 1. Now they made a whole game on it.
looks really interesting guys good job.
so all you get to do is use a robot and drive around... that will get boring fast. Don't get me wrong this is fun as hell looking but if they don't add more than just driving around mars... this won't be very fun in the long run.
Wow this looks awesome fun! The attention to detail/realism is astounding!
As long as there're exploding chickens I'm in.
Are rovers covered by car insurance?
Why do all the crap games seem to make it out and get on the shelves and interesting games like this seem to just appear with 2 days worth of work put into them, with the sure probability that it will never make it to release? Crap games are easier to make? Is that it?
This is cool as fuck. I'm speechless. Imagine the potential video games can have in conjunction with science mission like this. Now i want one where you orbit Venus or one in which you penetrate the frozen seas of Jupiter's moon Europa. Ofcourse they'd have a lot less data to draw on.
In any case this has really peaked my interest :D
This + Oculus Rift please! ^_^
It's an interesting idea. I'm not sure that the limitations of -just- having the mars rovers is enough to attract me though. However, this game does seem tailor made for some kind of greater scenario of which the rovers are only a part of. Especially with the focus on a more realistic science behind it all. My mind is failing me on exactly what, but it's telling me it should have something to do with Science! , like maybe having laboratory type stuff back at mission control or... something. Anyways, even though the game might not retail with any of that, it does have mod support, so who knows where that will go. It has definitely piqued my interest. I'm going to have to keep track of this.
I was thinking, "wow, a mars building game". It would be great to be able to build bases, etc.
But no, its a mars rover sim. No thank you.
Mars rover sim. Wow, sounds like the most boring app ever made.
Did they use the same engine Penn and Teller used for the desert bus sim in Smoke and Mirrors?
So a game... where you drive a tiny unmanned vehicle... on a barren planet... with no goal, but to drive...
@speedracer3190 Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations II, Endless Space, Stardrive, and older games if you don't mind dated graphics and UI like Masters of Orion II and Alpha Centauri which is basically Civilization on Alpha Centauri.
@robybaggio I love the MAKO in Mass Effect 1
@xeoneex66 If you haven't already, try the Kerbal Space Program demo. Building worlds, environments, and eventually A.I, is the next evolution of gaming. Bohemia is on the right track with this one. KSP full version is on sale now on Steam. The scope of the game and amount of stuff you can build, just awesome. You can literally build space stations (full version), then build ships to send up and fuel at them, then send those ships to other planets to build bases and explore. It's not a simple "game", still early in development, but worth every cent.
@xeoneex66 I think that's why they added modding, to fill in the gaps. That's kind of how bohemia interactive has always worked; let the community make what they want.
@00J Sorry if it is not COD, i personally can't wait.
@gufberg I'd love to see an exploration game on Europa!
I would suggest Kerbal Space Program if you're into games and science, it's fun and not too much of a simulation, it's on sale right now Steam for 15$.
The sense of achievement you get after getting a space station or satellite in orbit is incomparable.
@TheOnlyConan I recall playing a game in which you had to build a habitable base on the moon. I've never been able to find it again though. Do you, by any chance, know which game im talking about?
@Colekern @xeoneex66 well I don't know how far the modding would go, would we be able to apply their physics to flying space craft? Or would it be strictly those robotic vehicles. I guess time will tell. I just hope something will happen that allows for more diversity, as far as modding goes anyway.
Like I'd love to play around with gravity and things like balls :P. Dropping balls from a certain height to see how they react etc... Silly little things like that sometimes makes games of this nature realy fun.
@MAD_AI Thanks for the heads up. Just insta-purchased it.
@MAD_AI@gufbergThe sense of achievement you get after landing on and returning from all the planets is incomparable. There, corrected it for you.
was it "moon tycoon"?
@gufberg @TheOnlyConan think iv seen in on amazon before. looking for it now
@xeoneex66 Why not try the demo of Kerbal Space Program. ive had hours of fun building rovers & rockets on that.
@MAD_AI@theend3r@gufbergLearn asparagus staging, that'll make everything much easier. I used this ship to land on Moho and get back:
@theend3r @MAD_AI @gufberg
Wish I knew, I'm still trying to figure out how to rendezvouz and dock with a space station.
I plan on building an orbital refueling station to get a mission to any of the distant planets.
I've got moon tycoon in my attic
@jo8n3645 Thats it! thanks!
