How much money did Gamespot get from Metro's publisher?
I understand that it's the flavour of the month, and it isn't a bad game. Just the comparison of this linear FPS to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is just offensive...
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise was survival FPS at it finest, the Metro games are a dumbed down version of that. Still fun, but more for the "simple" gamers amongst us who don't know how to navigate an open world...
STALKER is the..."closed cousin" of Metro ? Really? How old are you boy ? You didn't play much did you ? :D STALKER is... the greatest (sandbox) survival EVER ! If you liked a game and you had gleet in your pants playing it that doesn't mean it's the best.(I was talking about you now) Keep that in mind next time you play journalist, ok ?
If we are going by survival shooters that used a scavenged currency, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was one of the most brutal and fun survival-sandbox games ever, way better than Metro. Also worth mentioning is Fallout 3 which wasn't a true survival shooter because of its many RPG elements but I think is still a good candidate for the category.TL,DR: Metro is a good game, but certainly not the patriarch of survival FPS.
This is a stalker for iPad http://studio.farom.tv/en/
STALKER did everything survival much better than Metro 2033 did it.
Also System Shock 2 stands out as one of the best survival FPS games of all time and easily trumps Metro 2033. Metro 2033 is a good game but as a survival FPS its actually pretty weak.
Metro last light is looking better than Metro 2033.
I don't see why its getting so much hate for a retail preorder bonus they have to do...
Having to find filters for gas masks and collect bullets (etc) as currency is fine, except when the game is so linear. When you are forced mostly down one path, you don't feel excited when you find something lying on ground. For a game like this, not having it more open is a shame.
I was going to buy this game until I heard about paying extra for "ranger mode". So why is something so small such a big deal you may ask? Its a little word many in modern society forget about its "principle"., and it is against my principle to let developers fuck me over.
Now I refuse to buy or play this game at all, microtransations like this have no business in games other than MMOs. Its laughable to even call it content.
Developers whinge and bitch about people pirating their products, well when you treat consumers like this I won't shed a fucking tear for you. It's not enough that its going to hit the shelves at a premium price you have to charge people extra for such an innocuous thing?
I really hope last light fails to meet profit expectations, and you learn a valuable lesson from not shafting your customers in future.
I fully agree on this one.
The Metro games are just a dumbed down version of ones in the STALKER franchise. I'm spoiled by that franchise, and I simply can't enjoy the simplicity of the Metro games. I tried yesterday, had some good moment, but it's JUST a FPS.
@Toropore Half-Life 2 was more of an action game. Half-Life 1 was more survival shooter.
@Darkmastersolid Here's what it says about ranger mode on their own website: "Experience complete immersion. No HUD. Less Bullets. Brutal combat. Hardcore. THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED." So... if it's the way the game is SUPPOSED to be played, then why do we have to pay more for the game we already payed? and why is it not available for everyone?
@Darkmastersolid Because it's a dirty trick to make people buy the game before they see the reviews otherwise they'll have to pay more than the full price for a difficulty level that doesn't basically add anything to the game.
@Snaptrap , it seems like you have not played the game yet , this game traumatised me when I first played it .(I was twelve at the time and it was damn dark)
@Snaptrap I think its safe to assume you aren't familiar with the term "survivor horror"
@stev69 They probably know that the game is not going to be welcomed by the reviewers, and that's why they tried to think of a way to sell more copies before the reviews come out.
@stev69 I made a promise to purchase and even pre-order this game to support what I want games to be. So far, this game is going in the line I always loved and we rarely get: adventure FPS.
But your point is very respectable, you are a customer and you want to prove your point by denying the purchase, that's the power you have and you have the right to use it.
But wishing failure business wise? You're a meanie man :(
@stev69 Developers? Publishers....
@stev69 i agree that 5$ ON disk DLC is BULLSHIT
but if the game is great 5$ is not that much of a sum to enjoy a much harder version of the game
but yeah this kind of shit is spearding really quickly
just look at Sonic & all stars racing transformed
pre-order or 3$ DLC
this is like we sell 20 cookies but we took 2 out of the plate
if you want the other 2 cookies pay 5$ moar
that's greedy but hell M:LL is a very promising game
@stev69 Wow, whine some more bro...
@SipahSalar No it's not safe, I've played Resident Evil, and it's "survival horror" not "survivor horror". I've played Metro as well. Bored me to death. Then again I've played a lot of games so I'm not as easy to impress as a child is with fireworks.
@santinegrete Haha yeah im a bit of a jerk. But its a pretty dark and expensive road we are being lead down, id rather kick and scream than go quietly.
@charlesdao There is no way you can put it all down to publishers, developers would have input in how their product is marketed.
It could be $0.01 for all I care. I'm not going to support a developer charging extra for a difficulty level.
@thequickshooter All DLCs are bullshit
@thequickshooter It does look good that I can't deny, still I think i'll pass.
@pal_080 Not a problem, its because morons like you don't, and throw your money at the screen because developers toss you a bone is why we have this problem. Keep being a delusional fanboy bro.
@AzulSoul Sad but true.
@pal_080 You're not making any sense pal_080.
@pal_080 The only thing that is hilarious here is that you think the rest of the world shouldn't have morals unless they are tree huggers.
You can go ahead and make a post that's even slightly relevant about the subject matter if you like though.
No, I just find it hilarious that your taking a moral stand on such a non-issue while you probably still shop at Wal-Mart, wear nothing but sweat shop clothing and don't recycle or compost...
