He didn't even explain really why the lurker is not going to be included. He was just talking some bull. I think they don't know how to use their new engine for things that could pop out of ground or it's too complicated and they are too lazy. Just like zerg in sc2 has spine crawler that attacks above the ground and not under like in sc. Why not be honest with us? We pay big money and we expect big things
I won't miss the lurker too much. It was a cool unit and it did some good damage but I had a tough time using it as anything more than base defense or when I was stomping someone and just for fun brought lurkers in. I always did full hydras or mutalisk/guardian combos.
@Xan_zou Look right near the top of this page: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/StarCraft_II:_Wings_of_Liberty They are expansions, and will be priced as such, and will likely modify multiplayer with the possibility of new units.
@SquiddyCake You know u dont have to call other people ideots, specially when youre wrong, blizzard stated that the other 2 games wont be expansions and that the multiplayer was gonna remain unchanged, so the other 2 games will probably be at full price and the only different thing from this one would be the capaigns, unless they decide to change it so that every1 would have to buy it cuz they do want our money
Mengsk what the heck are you smoking boy. Super expensive? 10 dollars more than a regular PC game, and this is WAY more high quality of an experience than most PC games people pay 50 dollars for. Loaded with DRM? You can play offline, you can play on any account that has a battle.net login with an attached key, the game itself doesn't seem to be set up to prevent you from installing on multiple computers. WTF reviews are you even talking about. Metacritic and GameRankings have this thing pegged at around 9.6+ Those are awesome scores. Or are you talking about dumb arses who don't know crap about what they're talking about who rate the game low out of spite because they got themselves pwned online and blame it on Koreans even though Koreans will be a much higher ranked person if they're good, but only the American Koreans could even play, because the game is region locked... People that attack Starcraft 2 just don't have good arguments. Just a bunch of hot air really.
The game is filled with DRM, super expensive, and isn't quite getting the reviews we all hoped for. Oh, and this guy needs a serious haircut!
@GregSci The "expansions" are the 2 extra games idiot, they contain other campaigns, further progression in the multiplayer, and I'm pretty sure aren't at full price.
@mikebarnhardt Well said dude. @mahta-ruler He said "expansion", so I guess there will be more games than the 3 standard games, you know, Blizzard wants your money: "wanna lurker? get this expansion =)".
@Nodashi Well spoken, you deserve an extra ration of grog. As for the rest of you lot, keep in mind that while the Lurker was indeed a fun and interesting unit, it didn't fill an irreplaceable slot in tactics. In fact, the zerg have now, more than ever, a multitude of subtle and devious units to harass and ambush the enemy. Lord knows, someone who loved the Lurker enough and knows a thing or two about modelling will recreate your beloved unit in the editor.
I applaud Blizzard for their game-changing decisions. I don't want to play the same game for 10 years and then have a sequel that plays exactly the same. They are making more drastic decisions for Cataclysm which is pretty promising. Although not all changes are welcome, at least they aren't rehashing the same crap like so many other developers.
@Neo_Sarevok New ideas over experience? C'mon, this guy is Chris Sigaty, he's not a new kid on the block. The fact that he was a member of lv70 Tauren Chieftain means nothing - it's only a cool hobby for a blizzard employee. He was part of the teams for this SMALL list of games: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (2007) World of Warcraft (2004) Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (2003) Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) Diablo II (2000) Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition (2000) StarCraft (1998) StarCraft: Brood War (1998) Diablo (1997) His hair is meaningless. He's a senior member of blizzard, being part even in Diablo 1, back in 97, and that's why he's the lead producer of SC2, not because he's cool or brings new ideas to the company he works for the last 13+ years. Blizzard is not a cutting edge company, they are famous for polish and support for the products, something very different.
@ RichardLG A lot of companies, including Pixar, enjoy exploring younger options of employment amongst different interest groups and ethnicity. Some people even get hired out of the modding community, such as the guy who made "Fall from Heaven" in Civ IV. To me, this guy looking like he's from a rock band doesn't surprise me. Companies on the cutting edge, like Blizzard, want new ideas. Experience has its merits, but the employees who bring new ideas to the table are most important.
@Lethalhazard: "Too much? There's 8 zerg units, whereas Terran has 14 and Protoss has 12. Less is more is an overstatement here.." wtf?? have you even played this game? because that is completely wrong zergling, queen, baneling, hydra, roach, infestor, ultra, muta, corrupter, brood lord, overlord, overseer = 12 units. terran has marine, marauder, reaper, ghost, hellion, tank, thor, viking, banshee, raven, bc, medivac = 12 units. toss has zealot, stalker, sentry, ht, dt, archon, observer, warp prism, immortal, colossus, pheonix, void ray, carrier = 13 units.
"Why does everyone from Blizzard look like they're part of a death metal band?" http://us.blizzard.com/_images/company/careers/ss9.jpg (caption on site is blizzard employees) weakest looking death metal band lol.
The Zerg in SC2 is already too similar to what they were in SC1. All of the core units - zergling, hydralisk, mutalisk- remained unchanged. There's no need for bring over another unit from the first game; hell, the Zerg metagame is boring enough already. I don't mind that Blizzard decided to change things up by passing the anti-infantry role from lurkers to banelings. If anything, I think Blizzard can change things up even more.
Too much? There's 8 zerg units, whereas Terran has 14 and Protoss has 12. Less is more is an overstatement here..
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with him since I haven't played the beta. But it seems like a pointless interview since he didn't actually explain why it wasn't included, he spent 2 minutes saying something he could have said in 5 seconds. One less thing to focus on seems like a nothing explanation which could be applied just as easily to any other unit.
Im sure with the usual 2 new units per expansion, and 2 expansions coming out, that lurkers will surely be one of them. They have to perfectly balance what is already in the game, seems understandable.
pre order starcraft 2 from GAME and you can be playing the beta version of the game. Starcraft 2 is great fun and the revamped battle.net is way better!
nerf this, nerf that, nerf everything that makes it unique... now let's start nerfing units that were already there. fantastic
ya I'm not sad or happy i just want starcraft2 to get RELEASED. and yes Alert0 asked a very good question.
What a load of bs. Zerg has no fun or interesting micro to use. A-attack A-attack A-attack A-attack A-attack A-attack A-attack
Release date is Q2 2010, I doubt it but let use hope that is the last time they change the release date.
Makes perfect sense, it would be absolutely intolerable trying to remember what the hell a lurker is while click-spamming units to try and be cool like koreans. There's no way in hell that would just raise the skill ceiling, or at least be relatively inconsequential. Can't have people thinking much! /sarcasm
FREAKIN GAY i used lurkers a ton in SC1 and i was looking forward to pairing them with nydus worms or infestors. i really hope they show up later
@ Valas_Azuviir The other episodes are the expansions. so all that he's saying is that maybe in the other episode "Heart of the swarm" that they might bring the lurker back into the picture, and even then it might only be in the single player campaign. they already told us that some units in the "wings of liberty" single player campaign wont be available for use in the multi-player.
Expansion huh.... I do believe we just got an unofficial announcement that SC2, next to its three episodes will also be getting an expansion pack then. :D He might want to be careful, those Activision snipers are mean to those who spill the beans. Metzen fears them. :P
@alert It's too keep a mentality. If they look like they're going to rock your world, they're just one step closer to it with their games. ;P Regardless, I'm glad that they recognize that it's not always a good idea to completely bog down a game with too many units (at least for the competitive section of the game). The game starts not being near as fun if it's just completely unbalanced towards one style of play.
i agree with him in that..when you play this game, there is constantly a lot to do. but that's good for an RTS
