The supposed "fourth pillar" (story) was never going to be a big enough hook to make this game the game it could have been. People are ready for something different and what they got was a big portion of same with a bit of story thrown in. This game doesn't really play much different to any other MMO ive tried of late and the stories tend to be predictable, cliched and for the most part not very engaging.
For me game play has to be the primary consideration, if the you don't get the game play right then all the stories or innovations and fluff in the world won't make you want to play it, and its mediocre at best in this department.
After playing this F2P after not playing for 7 months, their f2p model is horrible, they are not gonna win back founders, all that is left is blind fanboys, I actually had to change my review to make this a 1, Bio/EA has done nothing to fix PvP, they went from 50 servers to 8, the numbers speak for themselves and those 8 i noticed aren't excately hopping either, I play on 3 different of those servers and it seems like mostly everyone is hanging around at fleet, BORING and this review was pretty accurate, there is nothing special about it, I think he had to try really hard to make it sound interesting.
About the only thing he didn't have to make sound interesting was the world and the attention to detail with broken speeders ot walkers laying around was well done, about the only guy I would let keep his job from this crew. I did like the companions myself, but that is not enough for a pvp guy like myself to ever subscribe to the game, the pve got old quickly, there where times when I'm like how much longer do I need to be on this planet, jesus sometimes it just seems to drag on and not in a good way. I found the cutscenes to be boring and the story I wasn't even remotely interested in, and I'm a huge starwars fan, but something about this game wasn't right from the beginning
I loved the game, until you notice at lvl 40+ the game takes a change as if they hardly took much care into anything... game took months to patch simple things. It went from like 2.5million to .. probably no more then 10k left of players. The F2P in star wars has so many restrictions.... it turned me away instantly. EA has money only in mind so much that they even harm themsellfs... if it wasn't for restrictions in every possible thing players would have likely came back to see what its got to offer now... I doub't there will hardly be any increase in subscriptions and this game dies out 1-2years later due to EA being a fking demon ruining this once very promising game.
the only thing they improved in this game was fluff and stuff, like flying jawa's around your head and fluff monkey's a few operations, but other than that, what have they done in a year??????
that was the same impression I got as well master_vexov, so sad really, talking to ppl in game like my review above, they are so blinded by the starwars aspect of it, they don't even know they are bascially playing WoW, yet hate wow with such fever, it's incredibly funny, yet sad. But yes their f2p is so limited, I wouldn't even call it f2p, if you don't already have established characters you'll have a hard time playing this game.
played em both too, the crafting is different yes, you have companions yes, but you exchange lightsaber for axe, (not even anymore you can buy an axe now with cartel coins!!!) exchange bow for blaster, combat, quest are pretty much the same, which is essentially 90% of the game, the storyline, meh, cutscenes don't make a game, even with this supposed epic storyline, all the storylines run through the same worlds at all most the same lvls, so with the exception of the story line on that world you are replaying the world over and over again with the same quests. that 1% for the story line doesn't make it epic by any means.
