Combat looks exceedingly boring, kind of reminds me of combat in WoW but less exciting. Nothning new here. So far does not look like a WoW killer (though I stopped playing WoW a year ago due to boredom)
aww..i really was expecting a more fast based MMO..similar to dragon nest..i do hope this game makes its expected sales point.
@jasonzilla11 I believe LucasArts is there to assist with the license and ensure that the game stays true to the Star Wars universe. All the story and mechanics are done by BioWare. Don't quote me on that though.
@Mikeycj7 He just said at 1:40 that they want to get everything out since this is "launch year." Also in the G4 interview they had, he said that it is coming out in 2011.
After getting many faithful years out of my P4 and using my Xbox and PS3 for games, I've decided to update to a game PC. I'm thinking new Sandy Bridge i5 2500k and a Geforce 460 with 8GB ram. Why? FOR THIS
This game looks awesome! Me and my friend are definately gonna get it, day 1. It looks like an awesome Mass Effect MMO, but just in one of the greatest franchises ever: Star Wars. Super excited for it, can't wait to play it. But, I have one question: Who's making this game? I know EA is publishing it, but I'm confused on whether Bioware's making it, Lucasarts, or both. Can someone please answer me? Thanks in advance.
MMOs are all going to use very similar UIs and tank..dps..heals acrhtypes. WHY? all MMOs are based on old school pin and paper "RPG"s where you need a balanced group of classes to advance through content WITH your FRIENDS! its all about coming together and adventuring through a make believe world with your buddies! That is never going to change. Every new MMO is going to take what works from previous MMOs and build upon it, or just do there own visualized version of what works well. Like someone else said, If you don't like these things about MMOs, you might just want to stop playing them.
Still looking awesome! Naysayers just need to play it; it's way more fun to play than it is to watch. Environments are gorgeous too.
I know graphics arent everything, but this game looks appaling. It just looks terrible for a game of this age, nothing more to it. Let's see how it is when its launched though, since it's still far away probably.
Gotta love all the people who watch this one vid and write it off as a WoW clone. Anyone crying about any MMO having a similar UI as WoW needs to just give up on the MMO genre. It's the standard for MMO's, It's like like complaining that a FPS is in first person. The real differences in this game are going to be under the hood so to speak, and not slap you across the face obvious. Which means you actually have to READ previews and interviews to find out about them. Unheard of I know, but here's hoping that fact will keep the brainless meat bags out of the game.
It doesn't seem like there's much innovation into the MMO genre here. Which I think is bad. I also have to admit I'm not as stoked about this game as I used to be. My lowered expectations might in the end prove to be a good thing as unrealistic expectations never can be met. BioWare just doesn't hold that special part in my PC heart anymore after Dragon Age II.
Surely after all these years of MMOs being popular a new system can be designed different from the tank/healer aspect. Apart from the game lore, this is just another WoW clone
@Otawo I don't think "very distinct" is a proper description. Sure, it has it's own flavor, but the influence of WoW's art style is undeniable. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for this game. But you gotta admit... the art-style more closely resembles WoW than it does the first two KoTOR games.
That guy's blaster rifle looks and sounds weaksauce, and the combat system looks boring beyond words. Grats to Bioware on making WoW with a Star Wars skin, voiceovers and cutscenes. Good luck retaining subscribers with this dud of a game...
@The_MaiN_MeNu The art style is actually very distinct and a lot of artistically inclined people have mentioned that to Bioware. @NicotineKid That is usually an option within the game in every MMO I have ever played, and not selected by default.
There are 2 things that turns me off about this game. 1. The arts style looks too much like WoW's. I was hoping for a distinct look. 2. The Jedi and Boris Ulgo look like they're on steroids.
I hope this sucks, coz I wont quit WoW, but I cannot afford (money and timewise) two MMO's at a time. :p (ofc I'm joking, hope this is good, for the sake of the Old Republic universe)
Looks great, it has the a feel of KOTOR from what you can see. Also, it is undeniable that it has taken from WoW and LOTR online. For me, the only thing that really will hook me in, is the quality of the story. That was the strength of Bioware's previous rpgs that I have played, and it is a challenge translating it to an MMO.
@blackphoenixbg ...what else could they possibly add then? those classes are essential, and mostly every game you play, you play as one of those classes, especially single player rpg games believe it or not lol
@kpsting The Jedi/Sith classes that can Force Throw things pull things out of the ground so that they didn't have to put millions of different items in the game that the Jedi/Sith could do that with. While it might have made it more believeable to do it the other way then the Jedi/Sith would be taking all the Smuggler/Imp Agent cover and throwing it at all the enemies.
@kpsting It comes out of the ground, they are in a building so it's likely to be a pipe or something.
at 4:07 where did that thing come from that Jedi throws at the mob, looks like it just spawned out of thin air
Not to mention the enthusiasm from the writer/director of the game who are always excited showing what they can of the game. They put there heart and passion into the game. Reminds me the beginning of WoW and blizzcon I know people don't have to much love for WoW but back then it was a lot of love for the game and I can feel it in ToR.
Wow I want this game so bad everytime I watch these videos, this game looks so well made the time spent on it is well worth the wait.
i really hope when they say the release is 2011...i hope they dont mean December 2011...might as well be 2012!!!
@elkornu Really only since 2008? I've been waiting since Bioware first announced that they where working on an MMO. I knew in my gut that it would be a Star Wars KOTOR based MMO, and that it would be taking up a whole lot of my free time. Keep up the great work Bioware, I will continue to wait patiently for my favorite game that I have never played.
