i'm a fool for bioware, can't remember playing a good bioware game, they were all f*king great. something tells me i'll be playing this all summer long...
What I don't like about MMO's is I often feel like a small player in this huge game and I never make a big difference.
This game looks like it could be a lot of fun and a heavy hitter in the MMO comunity. I love the art style that they chose.
UGHHH these dev. diary videos are always such bland, hype-building garbage. "THERE'S GOING TO BE A GREAT STORY!" "THERE'S LOTS OF CHOICE!" "THERE'S TONS OF CONTENT!" "THERE'S SOMETHING FOR EVERY PLAY STYLE!" They didn't offer a single example or any hard details. Not one. It's just "developers" spitting out lines written by the company copywriter. Either say something substantial or shut the hell up.
Thats awesome it seems their going to have an ongoing sorta Alignment model going on where your choices can change what faction you decided to join at the beginning. Well if you get that choice at the beginning Im not sure. But you still you will ultimately be on the faction you deserve to be on based on your actions, so if your on the side of good you'll know the people around you have also made the choices to play their character good, while the same with evil. But I hope there are subtleties to each side, like maybe you want to play evil but be honorable at the same time. Rather than straight black & white good in evil.
People that play MMO's spend less money then gamers that focus on single player games, because MMO's is a game that you will be playing for maybe a year or so, while average gamer buys a game per month. So while you contribute the montlhy fee on a game, the developers use that money to uphold their servers, patch the game with new content and perhaps in the future, more single player games. . .
not live with forever, per say, you can always get another character, lol huh... i wanna be a force sensitive bounty hunter, i wonder if that would be available
Conan MMORG??? great combat and the rest was trash... WOW??? is very repetative but still the champ... Warhammer??? just buy WOW and be happy... Galaxies??? one of a few ways to screw thousands of people out of money, the other is over borrowing by firms on Wall St... Needless to say, I've no faith that this game will be good. There is only one good MMORG, WOW, and on a gaming scale it's "OK". Bethesda should've picked this up for KOTOR 3... If you don't beleive play an Elder Scroll of Fallout game.
this is lame just make the third kotor!! thats all the fans want. star wars galaxies was an epic fail. you cant beat WOW so just stop trying Gorge. just do what your good at; RPG's drop the MMO from the beginning
im a huge sw fan...infact that really doesnt say it...i have an unhealthy love for star wars...so you could slap star wars on a pile of crap and id buy it...that said im a huge gamer and a console gamer at that...ive played mmos and rpg are my favorite...kotor was hands down the greatest and most immersive game experience ive had...even though its old school i still find myself going back every now and then and playing through again...i liked kotor 2 but it wasnt kotor 1 by far...so the fact that bioware is back is great...the best thing about kotor (and star wars for that matter) is the richness and quality of the story...so im pleased with the consept of the story elements of this game..but my question is with that much content and that many stories will they be able to maintain a consistency in the quality of each story..im excited about this consept and i have confidence in bioware largely based on their great track record...but i think they should be careful not to trade quality for the sake of quantity...this has huge potential but even greater than that this game has alot to live up to...on a different note...id like peoples feed back on another idea...id love to see them (in the future ofcourse) create a follow up on the revan story..even if you didnt actually play as revan (though it would be great)...lets just call it kotor 3 for the sake of argument..but what i want to see is a continuation of that story wrap up in a kotor scaled game but built on the gamplay mechanics of tfu...despite the problems the game had namely its camera and the shortness and lack of content...i think tfu had the greatest combat and force system of any sw game yet..and it would be great to see that kind of awesome gameplay transfered into a game with the story and scale of kotor...it would be a gold mine..but thats just my oppinion..what does everyone else say...
I loved the KOTOR games and played through both of them heavily. I just hope they don't make this micro-transaction based like some rumours out there are saying.
I cannot wait for this game. Does anyone know how long they've been working on it? Maybe we can get a good estimated beta time.
http://video.golem.de/games/1687/star-wars-the-old-republic.html first of all watch this clip. They explain that it will be designed to run on most computers. A similiar technique was used for wow. If you look closely at the graphics in the pictures you will see that they are somewhat cartoon like but with a very artsy edge to them. If you look closser you will notice that the details ...like the weathering on rock and such are actually just painted textures (like in the uniforms in some of the call of duty games) and not always 3d (but they look 3d). This game is simple but very broad with its use of graphics. I would not worry about spending money on the best machine to play this game. The KOTOR series is the only rpg game I ever played over and beat several times. It was that compelling. I'm not sure how the whole companion thing is gonna work in the mmo world. Lotr's story would make it so that you would be in an instance alone and sometimes with others. I don't know how its going to work with everyone taking on the same stories provided for the different class types..should be interesting. Probably ingenius knowing the kotor series. Those games were big and always made me want to be in an mmo environment.
First of all iam a fan of the star wars franchise and i hope that this game will come to 360 as itll be reaching a larger market(EA dealing with production). The last two games were released for Xbox!Which will also mean that there will be downloadable content 2 no doubt! If this is the case i will probably buy it!Obviosly i am just speculating at this point. However the 360 is crying out for something like this to come along!
I wonder how the people playing, and paying, Star Wars Galaxies feel right now. I love BioWares games and I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars series (although never played Star Wars Galaxies), I can't help but get over the feeling that the people playing SWG are kicking themselves at the moment.
The secret to a great MMO is releasing one that is functional (don't have features unless they work). The MMOs over the past year have been buggy and in some cases poorly thought out. I hope this thing is awesome. It will be hit or miss.....
1. If it's so huge, servers had better be bigger than any other game out there. A massive world with 10,000 players will seem small. 2. With a story driven game, they need to be careful that the story makes sense. Every player can't be the savior of the universe.
I've been debating on MMO's for a long while now, and this could very well be the tipping point for me. looks awesome!
i believe this will be the last MMORPG by LucasArts and Bioware. they're either hugely successful and will release expansions rather than proper sequels for years to come, or it'll be a huge failure and they won't have the resources required to make a MMORPG again. the problem with making a game based on a movie is that the audience more or less will DEMAND that you include certain elements, no matter if it adds to the gameplay or not. you risk having a conflict between creating a great game that people want to play and creating a game which "stays true" to the movie's lore etc. i believe the first star wars MMORPG, star wars galaxies, fell into the trap. the LOTR MMORPG did too. the fact that this one is set in a time which hasn't yet been depicted in a big motion picture is a good sign, cause it will give the developer more freedom, but watching the trailer, i saw a character fight that big bug-thing and i got a deja vu .. that bug was in the movie! this doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, but when they tell us this game is set "thousands of years before 'episode 1'" and we still see things that are obviously taken from the latest movies, what are we to expect? will this game see us visit the same planets and go to the same places movie characters have been? i'm not going to complain about movie elements appearing in the game - as long as they can motivate their consistency with the story. SW Galaxies and LOTR online both did the whole "Now YOU can 'basically re-live the movies' - with your friends ONLINE yay!"-thing, and while that may be enjoyable for a short time, it's not going to compete with WoW.
Yes, we do. There currently isn't a Star Wars MMO because SWG doesn't count. It's like saying, "Stop making FPS games because there's a lot." MMOs can always one-up, and the MMO idea is getting extensively popular. I can't wait for this game...
All good ideas but making the look of the game more next gen wouldnt hurt, since with what it looks now it looks oldschool...my eyes r kept with this game for a while
I being a SW fan and a Bioware fan, have to say that this is a pretty good Idea and if it is all that there saying, then this game will be perfect for any SW fan. I'm not saying that this will be good, but i'm not saying it will be bad. Alot of things are on the line for Bioware and I think they're smart enough to know not to disappoint the fans. Also there is a big chance that there WON"T be a kotor 3, because for one this and other games are happening and two in the SW timeline theres not much room for a ground breaking storyline. So stop complaining and wait and see how the game turns out. Then you can bask in your anti-SWTOR victory.
The story idea is in LoTR as well, for those who haven't played it, and it's one of my favorite features. The repetition and inability to interact and affect the world you inhabit in most MMO's is a big weakness that needs to be overcome.
I like the look of the game, but paying a fee is going to be a downfall, and until more info is released how will the sotry work? will it truly be a realtime 'fable' style choice system or simply like wow where story comes at you in quests, you choose to kill a guy and your decision means naught because he respawns two mins later and you kill him again....in other words a static world? Also I love how they act as though stylised realism (cartoonish) is a new thing, wow has been doing that for 5 years....Wait for a few months before investing in it and see if people are still excited once they've done all the missions and explored all the areas....then decide if you want to buy it.
Got a very BAD feeling about the whole "story" thing: interesting idea but it blends very bad with the tipical "weeping kid" MMORPG audience. SWG teaches...
off course there will be a fee its an MMO, duh. Funny how so many people dont understand why they would make this an MMo rather than KOTOR 3. MMOs are cash cows, look at WoW. Millions of people paying $15 a month for 5+ years > 5 million single player units sold by a mile. The one good thing i got out of this was that they are actually putting STORY as a main component to the game. Up to this point most MMOs have the huge flaw of just having players running around in a static world that they cant have any effect on. (including WoW) Bout time someone got some balls and actually put the RPG in MMORPG.
It looks like an improvement to past Star Wars Old Republic games but the only thing I'm worried about would be if there is a online fee to play.
