reply to: Ghosthunter54 Look, having your Bounty Hunter take a Republic mission would be like a Night Elf going to Orgrimmar and taking a quest... Its just not going to happen! That you fail to understand this fact is NOT my problem... Its just something where your expectations are not aligned with how the game is designed. (Oh and I hope you don't find this post too rude. And I apologize for the fact that I do sometimes "go off" on persons whom I perceive as "not really paying attention".)
1 - Lack of emotion-related animations was okay for WoW in its age, but this is 2010. 2 - Can I rag on the bad animations again? He looks like he is just dangling in the air like a dead fish out of water. 3 - Glad to see some flavor in armor, i.e. not a direct film copy.
All right, I have high hopes for this game because of the epic lineage of the Star Wars name and Bioware's nearly spotless record... but does anyone else think the mobs look a little weak? I mean come on I don't want to be uber invincible guy because that gets boring after about 5 mins. A little tough play brings a real sense of reality to a game, and most MMO's either start difficult and players complain and they "baby up" the game, or they start easy as hell with everyone able to take out a Kryat Dragon after 2 days... I just hope Bioware doesn't make the same mistake, I mean at least add a difficulty setting for those of us who like the challenge. You could even link experience gained with difficulty selected, higher difficulty higher exp, and visa versa.
This is just like, how many armours are there? 4? 5 ? Anyway, they said this is just a few out of a thousand different armour types. And I've personally seen an inventory on a player, so I highly expect customization, I mean- of course there would be customization! You want to look unique and Bioware has stated they will for shure do that.
@ Kristophski You also have to look at the large audience that this game is playing towards. PC gamers, MMO lovers, and the awesome fanbase of Star Wars itself. I think the graphics suit itself perfectly, and bring back memories of KOTOR, which are two of my favorite games. While I agree to an extent that "more realistic" graphics would look cool, not enough gamers around the world have the high-end PC to run it.
I cannot wait to purchase this game. I never got into WoW, despite it being such a great MMO,and I am in no way bashing that, but I think the fact that I love the Star Wars universe will really keep me into this game for a very long time. I also heard there was like, 1600hrs of story-line in this game....That alone is a great feat.
@Blaze787 If you watch the stagedemo from G4, they actually make a comment that there are millions of combination's for armor for how your character can look, thank god. Doing the armor like say Guild Wars would be a game breaker for me.
@Blaze787 I don't think that's the case. The change in color scheme suggested customizability to me. I'm guessing the video was more trying to show the types of techniques you'll use as you progress, and reassure fans that Boba Fett was at least a level 40 Bounty Hunter. Loot is the heart and soul of RPGs, and especially the MMO variety, so I don't think a trustworth company like Bioware would screw up that badly.
ToR has to be my most anticipated game at the moment. However, this video leads me to believe that you won't be able to customize your armour ala WoW and other games. Instead, your look simply progresses as you go up in level. That would essentially mean a level 50 bounty hunter will look exactly the same as any other level 50 bounty hunter. I certainly hope I'm wrong.
@tucker003 I understand your point, should probably have expressed myself in less black-and-white terms. Borderlands' graphical shift was done for the exact reason you imply - to break away from the previous trend (of so-called monochrome shooters, as mentioned in an interview). While I agree that variety in all aspects is key to gaming, I can find it frustrating when I see a trailer for a game in a specific graphical style and then all subsequent videos are done in a pseudo-cell shaded fashion. Its more the discontinuity that I disagree with, not the art style. That being said, ToR is still a game I'm keeping a close eye on; I just wish the gameplay would look a touch more like the Deceived and Hope cinematics had led me to believe.
Wow, that's some pretty intense action there. *rolls eyes* Hopefully the finished game will have combat that's a bit more complex than "stand completely still out in the open while shooting at each other with laser pistols".
Man I hope we are not stuck to one kind of armour leveling up. Like JMMO's. We better have multiple choices. THis better not be it. That would SUCK! everyone looking the same.@tucker003 - Its not just the looks of the grphics that have to do with Frrame rate, its the Look, amount of polygons, amount of Information being processed, amount of animation going on, View distance, shadows, AA, Texturing, how well OR BAD the coding was done. So you can have a Crappy looking game that runs really bad or a beautiful game that runs really good.
@Kristophski While more realistic graphics may be a definite possibility now it is asinine to suggest that ALL games should strive to have the same graphic style. Borderlands' graphics were unique and chosen for a specific reason which you are obviously not privy to. In my opinion, variety is key, especially in this industry; and while you may not like the direction that Bioware chose to take, graphically speaking, for ToR, you should still realize the need for diversity in every aspect of games, graphics included.
Realistic graphics means more people wont be able to play the game, not all of us have high end computers. heck..i have no idea why my computer which can run MW2 great but cant run world of warcraft on high without framerate dropping below 30.
I understand alot of people wanting better graphics make it look more realistic and so forth. However I like this style it allows the designers to create interesting scenes without the problem of tearing or having outrageous costs. The two things I feel are important, as long as the graphics aren't more cartooney than wow, are game play and the ability to look different from the thousands of others on your server. Through paint or minor armor adjustments a player could feel more unique. None the less i feel blizzard is too content on the gravy train to even want to impress us any more so now im just waiting.
@ACx7 Couldn't have said it better. Shifts in graphics in games like this and Borderlands aren't wanted or needed. We're now able to do more realistic graphics so why is there a sudden trend to go against that?
The armor looks great. The animations look much smoother than a few months ago too. I just hope SW:TOR doesn't do the WoW thing, where high end gear just gets ridiculously large and bulky looking.
@ACx7 yeah man. im not feeling the art style either. reminds me too much of team fortress. way too cartoony looking. why couldnt they just keep the regular KOTOR art style and just ramp up the graphics?? That wouldve been AWESOME.
Mixed feelings on the visuals...and the monster "fight" was pretty humorous (in a lame way). Stand still will I splode this under you, then fall down. But I have confidence that Bioware is the right group to pull this off. Can't wait for the release date.
YES i can't wait for this to come out! Excited for a good MMO after WoW! Bye bye WoW. Sup Old Republic.
ok really now , what was this movie for??? Should i get excited with this or ? Im getting less and less excited about this with every new video i watch.... Damn Bioware , i praised you for ME and DA , but this looks...cheap and unpolished for a 2010 MMORPG... Really now , havent seen anything more unexciting , unintensive fight in any other MMORPG class trailer... ever... #$% was that?.... Hope this is no real....
release date like q1 of 2011 they stated that awhile back i hope the game a litte loot based like i hope its got alot of cosmetic options it will suck if everyone runnin around with the same gear on.
Omg, Sauron (or Witch king or something lotrish) looking helmet. Btw, some sound effects still sound the same as in KotOR. AWESOME!
It looks great but.. is that it? that's all they can reveal on E3? Come on, how about a release date?!
I wonder if you will be able to crash against the pit of carkoon and be swallowed as a bounty hunter.
So you don't get jet pack action until late into the game; that's the impression I got from seeing this.
Wicked armor. I want to see this on the other classes as well. The last one was the coolest in my opinion.
Looks like the bounty hunter is the way to go if you're a visual loot-whore like me. Still I think the pull of the dark side will end up being stronger still. Can't wait for this game.
@Cannyone I have visited the game's website and your rudeness is not required, it doesn't make you sound any smarter. I am aware the bounty hunter is linked to the sith faction. That does not mean that you cannot ever take a contract for anyone but the sith. Such restrictions would be silly. Example: Boba Fett worked for the Empire a lot, but he also took contracts that were not from the Empire. I think it's likely that you will be able to take contracts from the other factions if they offer them, perhaps even the Republic.
