Splinter cell Blacklist: Big Action for a Stealth Game
Blacklist strays a bit from the formula of prior Splinter Cell games to bring more action to the table.

The damage is done. I loved the first 4 games on Xbox, but Conviction was pretty terrible cover shooter already. That could have been one-time deal, but it's like making Batman kill someone and then return to his strict morals or something. So I don't really see redemption for SC nor care what happens. If they want to make a stealth game that isn't like AC or WD, they should start a new IP.
Someone somewhere got the original idea of creating Splinter Cell instead of making a new game called Rainbow Six: Solo Black Ops, so I don't know why it couldn't happen again.
yay just what we need, more of the exact same gameplay mechanics thats stretching from every single 3rd person game in existence over the last 5 years. More action to the table and less creativity in gameplay mechanics. Run to cover, run to cover, hit arrow to run here and quicktime to that table and quicktime to that bench bla bla bla.
Thank God Arma exists. At least i can create stealth missions from hell at night and i can have a taste of what Ghost Recon and rainbow 6 style of games use to be at the same time.
Ubisoft Bring the old SC to life! they should build BLACKLIST around stealth just like the old ones not the other way around i'm not talking about CONVICTION here! i admit it was a great game but it also was the turning point for the franchise!
Dear Gamespot: When assigning stories, give them to people who actually enjoy the genre and know something about the game's history. It would be akin to having me do reviews of Euro Soccer... I don't watch it, so having me do a piece reviewing Manchester v. Arsenal (not sure I have that right, as I don't watch it) would not only be a waste of everyone's time and boring but insulting to those who enjoy it. Splinter Cell is a pretty big franchise; surely you can find someone at Gamespot who enjoys it and can provide some value instead of constantly qualifying every comment with: "Again, I don't really care for stealth or know crap about it, but...."
I share Kevin Van Ord's concerns. I'm not looking for "more action", i'm looking for "more hardcore stealth"
Lost opportunity to improve Splinter Cell saga with a new title. I think it's a bad move from ubisoft because it's too late to release a current gen game this one was in last year e3 also ....So is an old game, delay of the game wasn't good at this time graphics look very poor
maybe, the next cell will focus on guns, daylight and multiplayer.
since, we all know that's what made the series so great.
Bad idea Ubisoft for you to stray Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist away from the Splinter Cell's root which was stealth.
Don't really like stealth???
So why the fuck were you chosen to talk about a game that at his core is stealth..
Oh how I really miss the good old Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory !
Splinter Cell is one of my favorite series, I don't care. I loved them all... well Double Agent was the worst. Didn't care for those undercover missions. It's changed, but I still enjoy them.
I just hope the multiplayer is solid. I spent so many hours on Pandora tommorw and chaos theory even double agent. But im keeping my expectations low for now.
I actually liked conviction, especially the co-op. But I also loved the original splinter cell where sound AND light played significant part. And Darkness was straight up darkness.
Kevin VanOrd.... Awesome guy, fantastic reviwer.... terrible tattoo. Join it into a sleeve design and you'll be golden.
So by his words then he admits it then the game isn't about stealth its about action i knew it by some of the map deigns they showed off on facebook they have done it poorly.
I agree about the animations - the character seemed to float everywhwere and be completely weightless. As an animator looking to break into the industry, it really surprises me how this can be passed off as professional work.
Splinter Cell died at the beginning of last gen with Double Agent. Hopefully the new Thief game wont be dumbed-down garbage and will be a REAL stealth game.
Looks good. I'll buy it. But what happened to Rainbow Six? That is the best game for me. Cannot wait for a sequel for R6.
more "action" lol. code word for dumbed-down crap for the casual masses.
this has nothing to do with "change." this has to do with developers being unwilling or unable to actually show some creativity and further develop their game.
this has to do with profits.
People need to get use to change, a game can't stay the same gameplay play or storyline for 10 years+, it needs to change and dev are trying something new, so im good with. If I like it good, if I don't to bad, I wont die for that or I won't even purchase the game, but like I said, devs are trying something new in every games and some will love it, some will not. So you dont like it, don't buy it and stop complaining!!
@XSingle i'd say that double agent begat conviction.
@explicator2 yes but, they are PR. They dont really play games. Last time they got a actually gamer, he was such a fan boy and bias towards one game he likes and bash the other.
@Sardinar fools, um, casuals and money
@Carrig90 After Far Cry 2, I never buy anything from Ubisoft. Poor graphics, bad storyline, repetitive gameplay, no interesting objectives or goals is the reason to leave Ubisoft.
@udubdawgz I concur with your sarcasm.
I might also add "because it worked so well for the Resident Evil franchise!"
@interrasteral7 Another casualty in the process of Callofdutyfication and Battlefieldification that gaming is going through
@cboye18 They do trying to restore what they have lost from conviction
@CommandoAgent What are you talking about? These guys talk about stealth co-op mission, where every mistake ruins the mission. It was stealth! Man, check Splinter Cell official forums, the game will have enough stealth for a stealth fan. Perfectionist difficulty level alone proves that, cause it doesn't have M&E like Conviction! Also the game has score system and it rewards stealth players for stealth and ghosting more than action players for killing.
Watch Dogs and The Division still look like great games, and there are other Ubi titles that are good, like Anno and Farcry 3.
Ubisoft are really hit-and-miss with their titles and studios. Some are known for their ingenuity and innovation, while others are known to be forced out the door as quick as possible with nothing new or interesting.
@PernicioEnigma Good point. Double Agent was the first Splinter Cell game I just didn't care to finish. Sad the direction this franchise has gone.
@PernicioEnigma In my opinion, the AI in Thief looked way too mechanic and unnatural in their behaviour. On some level that ruined the stealth expirience for me.
@PernicioEnigma double agent was the first ps3 game I got on my first ps3 years ago, probly only a few months after the consoles came out, it had the worst frame rate and screen tearing I've ever seen in a game, it was almost game breaking. probly was for some people but I persevered thrugh it and beat it once and once only lol. never played it again.
@faniramaUbi confirmed R6 will be next gen on IGN
@fanirama The developer for Rainbow Six: Patriots started to go under as they were developing it. Ubisoft hasn't announced if the title is canceled or not, though they keep insisting it's being handed to a new team.
@Rooten ''a game can't stay the same gameplay play or storyline for 10 years+''
Call of Duty.
Your argument is invalid.
the 80's and 90's gaming landscape is LONG gone.
they foolishly and incorrectly believe a game won't be bought by the casuals and masses unless it's all encompassing.
and, therefore, we get the dumbed-down, all-accessible, handholding, crike.
i'm with you: i think a serious, sophisticated, intense, and, STRICT stealth game would break the bank.
