I love how there's a meteor strike and traffic is largely unaffected!

It's a disaster for sure, ...it's not really simcity.  I was very much looking forward to this, but it's a complete fail.  Another EA mess!

That was the same headline used for the LAIR review for the ps3.

SimCity 4 was great, and that came out under EA's name. Don't loose faith yet.

I like how meteors make craters when they fall, oh wait they dont make one.

Such a shame that EA's greed had to destroy such a beautiful and potentially good game.

A "Beautiful Disaster" indeed. A beautiful looking game destroyed by EA's fixation on multiplayer (have fun playing when they shut down the servers) and the requirement of their Origin software (enjoy EA monitoring all the apps you run).

damn, I was really hoping they would make a more sophisticated intelligent game.  but looks like they've decided to take the road of a childrens game instead.  too bad, many in another 10 years.

This is just a new SimTown game... Nothing else. Where is the highways? Where is the terraforming? It's just lets you make advanced crowded town, not even close to being a city...

Marvelo75 noted it and I completely agree with him. Not only asteroids but no matter what you choose, but disasters don't damage the roads at all and that is really totally unrealistic. I am disappointed too. That is very... very unrealistic indeed. I trust they will work it out, somehow.

My... my... my. I just love Sim Cities and always loved, and with this last  game won't be different. I just can't wait 'til next March... ARRRRGGG.

This is all well and good, but I would like to see diasters caused by others means, IE: Nuclear meltdowns, in reactors that weren't properly maintained (if there's a maintance mechanic in the game which i think there should be, but that's just me) hurricanes, that bring flood waters, smaller storms, but still powerful enough to bring down power lines, and wind turbines, damage homes, and businesses...

Also what happened to the godzilla type creature and the giant robot, that was in previous sim city games, I miss those options myself... but that's just me...

Hehe looks like one of those model miniatures but you can look around and build anything. Looks promising! ^_^

Game looks awesome, even if the online DRM will be annoying.

I hope the calm Jazz music will make a return in this game like it did in Sim City 3000

Last version of this game as much as I remember was too buggy. I couldn't finish to built at least small city it always hanged and after trying to load the game from the saves it always hanged again on the same place...

I thought this video was going to be a discussion on the always-online DRM being a disaster on an otherwise beautiful looking game...but actual disasters are fun to watch too :)

That last U.F.O. abducted like a 100 people. Do they even have enough space on their ship?

ragnar320

well he just said a key thing "you can set up a region to play by yourself" which means you might not have to do the whole simcity online world connection thingy and just play the game on your own there is still hope for the world then

Excellent game im buying but way over the top trying to sell it. Traffic is simulated as the traffic gets backed up. But this does that on the Amiga 500 the only difference is the graphics.  Like i say will buying and loos grate.

@pelvist What title has EA released in the last 2 years their greed hasn't destroyed?

@Rikaelus That's actually what I thought the title meant when I followed the link here lol. I was hoping for some actual critique, not just another promo vid

@mauro_rubens You'd think we're at the point technologically that a meteor strike might, you know, leave a crater or something?

Xenuri

 @pathosfire I think the online aspect is great but doesn't go far enough!

Imagine if countries were introduced into the game where each country basically functions as a guild and each guild member runs a city. It could open up the opportunity for countries to build and grow a military where some city's would host bases and military ports etc. You could also have capital city's with gov buildings with could be aexpanded for greater diplomatic play.

However, if thats not for you, your guild could choose to remain neutral simply supplying resources to other nations and/or tourism etc.

wait, wait wait

why the hell does this game need always online DRM? Its sim sity

cirugo
cirugo

 @ragnar320

nope.  you will still have to be online to play and connect to their servers through Origin.  This has been confirmed many, many times.

Xenuri
Xenuri

 @skipper847 I think what he was trying to demonstrate with the traffic is that is that each vehicle is  (hopefully) a persistent object in the game world. In SC 3/4 traffic would appear and vanish randomly and in 1/2 merely a graphical layer of blue dots added over the road.

Annihilator-X-

 @cirugo  @pl4yer_f0und  Lol sad but true. It's also  more SimTown than SimCity with the limited city size. This compounded with dumb down gameplay of no teraforming, fixed region layout and highway network, lack of subways, forced online play, persistent (no save and load) nature... This is just a disaster and slap in the face for hardcore SimCity fans.

cirugo
cirugo

 @Diablo-B

good question...some of us have been asking that since it was announced last March.

cirugo
cirugo

 @Xenuri  @skipper847

 and that's one of the problems.  they've gone so far in the direction of focusing on every little agent (that's what the Sims is for isn't it)  that they've had to sacrifice the scope and scale of the city to make it happen.

cirugo
cirugo

 @thebeasle  @Xenuri  @skipper847

 that's my point...if they had to make the scale of the game smaller in order to make this micro-scale simulation workable then it was the wrong direction to take a city-scale builder game.

thebeasle
thebeasle

 @cirugo  @Xenuri  @skipper847  Agree. Simulating every agent is a nice feature but... this game should be called SimTown because the "cities" will be so small. I hope I'm wrong and it turns out good, but I doubt it. No way would I risk a preorder on this thing.

Xenuri
Xenuri

 @cirugo  @skipper847 I disagree, having realistic citizens and traffic models is something I've personally always wanted in SC, real people going about their lives.

So far there is no evidence to suggest that the per agent micro management of the sims will be making into the game, that I agree would be a disaster!
